[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 693273] [NEW] Ubuntu boots into blank screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have ubuntu live cd. Whenever I choose the Try Ubuntu option, the screen goes blank and freezes. And the only way to exit is to poweroff my laptop. This happens not only with ubuntu but also with fedora, opensuse, puppy, knoppix. The only way to run is to use text mode or vesa mode. But since my laptop has a 15.6inch screen 1024x768 resolution looks ugly. Amazingly, only ubuntu 9.04 is able to run normally. It even supports my 1366x768 resolution. If it can run then there must be a way to run all the other versions of ubuntu. I have reported this bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/693272 but using ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel package ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 Package: xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu18 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersion: Linux version 2.6.28-11-generic (bui...@palmer) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5hostname4) ) #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 SourcePackage: xorg Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/693273 Title: Ubuntu boots into blank screen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Alright, xserver-xorg-driver-intel for GMA 950: 2.12 3D performance is crippled unless you monitor your GPU with intel_gpu_top, this would affect compiz/gears/unity anything 3D, this is the driver in maverick 2.13 this driver doesn't work currently on GMA 950, I filed a bug upstream 2.11: 3D seems to work fine, i copied the file out of a 2.11 .deb from x-swat for lucid, gears runs with no intel_gpu_top assistance needed So there was a weird regression in 2.12/Maverick. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657976 Title: [Intel GMA 945/950] Unity Interface Is Extremely Slow (Ubuntu Netbook 10.10) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 692677] Re: 06_layout_drop_down patch creates inacessable or corrupted menus
With a fresh install of iso available today on a laptop, (dell 1330, nvidia 8400m GS), basically same the same thing - Desktop login to unity, crashed window dec., then nvidia-settings Classic login to gnome-panel, initially just froze up on the X Server Display Confirmation menu, after applying the small set of updates ( mainly gnome-panel and indicator package updates), it works fine Returning to Desktop login still the same crashes. Employing the second way to run unity - login to Classic with the unity plugin enabled - it works fine So the Classic login is good with either the unity or gnome-panel interface The Desktop login is a no go. (- this is not the only instance where a Classic > unity login is better behaved than a Desktop > unity login. A bit of a change - Thru a fully updated natty as of 6:30 pm (east coast usa), it now works in a Classic login to gnome-panel/compiz enabled On the other hand a Desktop login to unity - when trying to click on the X Server Display Confirmation menu it hangs and then crashes both nvidia-settings and most likely compiz (window decorations disappear, ect. Yes, unfortunately i seam to get some weird atombios loop errors when shutting down and it freezes most of the time during shutdown too. I guess its a kernel thing though, because system doesn't seam to find all that its should regarding bios. Anyway when in an old kernel at boot i get initramfs. The strange thing is, in initramfs all the Fn keys work so i would not be surprised if everything else worked too if its a bios problem. And they haven't published a new bios yet, if they ever will. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661768 Title: HP G62-a50SM keyboard fn and special keys ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 692187] Re: desktop fails to appear without enabling failsafe graphics first
I have changed the bug report to just one problem, since the window bars seem fine now (possibly a partially broken update previously). I am using the standard Gnome desktop (not Unity). There were no changes made by myself to xorg.conf or anything (other than what I have done below if that changes any configurations). What I did (and have to do to boot to gdm) is: 1. Choose recovery mode in the GRUB boot menu 2. Choose X failsafe mode 3. Allow system to boot to gdm login screen. 4. Choose to restart at the login screen. 5. Allow system to reboot. 6. Choose the normal Ubuntu boot option in GRUB. Once that is done, there are no further problems, until the system is shut down or rebooted. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/692187 Title: desktop fails to appear without enabling failsafe graphics first ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hmm, from a casual skim through the patch I don't see an obvious part of the patch which could cause this particular problem, but it's a moderately long patch, and perhaps has a loose pointer or something. Doug, since you can reproduce the issue and seem comfortable patching/building the source, would you be willing to help narrow down where in the patch the wayward code line is?
