[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 703184] [NEW] Title in Titlebar displays incorrectly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg 1) Using Ubuntu 10.10 2) xorg (1:7.5+6ubuntu3) 3) Title in titlebar should always display correct and current title without any problems Screenshot [https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10532641/Screenshot3.png] 4) Doesn't matter which theme or program; doesn't matter if I use emerald or metacity; title will randomly appear cut in half with the 'new' title and the 'old' title of the window in question. I've seen this on a friend's computer as well. It may have something to do with the Intel display driver because I know he was using his Intel Graphics Card at the time. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When the computer awakes from hibernate or sleep states, the display gets powered but stays black (nothing is displayed). Computer seems to be running ok, though: Caps Lock indicator toggles on and off, mouse pointer moves. I tried to reboot the machine doing what I normally do in normal circonstances: when I push the Power On button, there is a choice menu and I just strike Enter toselect the first option which is shutting down the machine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second
If you do rule out a client app, or otherwise want to continue exploring it as an X issue specifically, here's the next step. We're going to be moving natty to its new X stack within the next week or two. Currently this stack is available in xorg-edgers, and should match almost exactly what will soon be in natty. I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about it. The PPA is available at: https://launchpad.net/~xorg- edgers/+archive/ppa Here's a simple way to install: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade Then reboot your system to get to the new bits. If you want to go back to stock Ubuntu, there is a corresponding ppa-purge tool: sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681054 Title: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702978] [NEW] Can't suspend laptop or turn on second monitor after recent xserver update
Public bug reported: After recent maverick update (the one around 12.01.2011) and restarting system, I can't suspend my laptop, it hangs with screen lit. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second
Hmm, ok reason I ask is looking at your Xorg.0.log everything looks totally bog standard except at the end there are 9 sequences of XRANDR queries to the monitor. Those queries can typically cause screen flickers such as what you're seeing. And it is not unprecedented for some arbitrary client application to set up polling calls of X server such as to check if a new monitor is installed; on some hardware this works without flicker, on some it does. This behavior is typically highly periodic, such as you're seeing. A way to check if this is the case would be to review what processes you have running (e.g. look at ps aux) and one by one shut them down until the blanking stops. The other typical cause of blanking issues like this is underruns of the GPU. Basically, X is not able to feed data through to your graphics card fast enough. Often when this happens, there are error messages printed to dmesg and/or Xorg.0.log, yet this does not appear in your logs. Also, this problem tends to be intermittent/random rather than periodic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681054 Title: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 185600] Re: openoffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep
Ok, so this is happening again in 10.10. I've noticed a few more things though: 1. This bug sometimes causes X to crash. I've experienced it a few minutes ago. I had resumed from suspend maybe 4 hours ago and worked on a bunch of things in Emacs, Firefox and Evolution and a few other X clients (like xpdf). Then I turned to Open Office writer to check something in a document. The document was very slow to scroll. Writer was in effect exhibiting the symptoms described earlier in this bug report. After paging up maybe 4 or 5 times, X crashed. The only X client started before the suspend-resume cycle and which showed any trouble was Open Office. (Emacs, FF, Evolution were also all started before the suspend-resume cycle: no problem with them.) 2. The soffice.bin process remained running from the previous X session. Note that everything else which was X related died when the X session died. Only, soffice.bin remained. Running oowriter from the command line does nothing. The old soffice.bin must be killed before OO can be used again. 3. I checked to see whether the HD was being accessed abnormally (e.g. thrashing) but did not see anything abnormal there. Why did I not experience X crashes before? I think the answer is just that in the past, I would very quickly close OO as soon as I experienced the bug so I was removing the opportunity for a crash. This time, I insisted on scrolling to a bit of text I needed to cut and paste to emacs. I thought I was really close to the passage I wanted to cut and paste but I was wrong and X crashed before I could get there. It may also have to do with the document I was scrolling. This is the largest OO document I have. It also happens to contain about as much Chinese as English. So of all the documents I work with this is the one which is most taxing on oowriter. I had the same problem in xubuntu 10.10 and the solution was to "sudo apt-get remove gnome-settings-daemon", not sure why that component is installed in an xfce environment? I guess this is not a solution for you guys here though... Oh yes, I have the dreaded x58 + corei7 + nvidia 470gtx + SSD combo... /Sune -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649809 Title: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652731] Re: Appearance settings do not work in Xubuntu 10.10 RC
Did a reinstall and my own solution from #11 did not work this time :-( However I removed gnome-settings-deamon (sudo apt-get remove gnome- settings-daemon) inspired by comments from bug #649809 and that has solved the problem! Not sure why that deamon is needed on XFCE anyway? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652731 Title: Appearance settings do not work in Xubuntu 10.10 RC ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
