[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 703184] [NEW] Title in Titlebar displays incorrectly

2011-01-14 Thread Ben
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

1) Using Ubuntu 10.10

2) xorg (1:7.5+6ubuntu3)

3) Title in titlebar should always display correct and current title
without any problems

Screenshot [https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10532641/Screenshot3.png]

4) Doesn't matter which theme or program; doesn't matter if I use
emerald or metacity; title will randomly appear cut in half with the
'new' title and the 'old' title of the window in question.

I've seen this on a friend's computer as well. It may have something to
do with the Intel display driver because I know he was using his Intel
Graphics Card at the time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616214] Re: Should Depend: on appropriate xserver-xorg-video-$ABI

2011-01-14 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
This got partially fixed, but not totally - nvidia-current should Depend
on ${xviddriver:Depends}, which will contain the appropriate ABI
dependency.

This means that when we upload Xserver 1.10, the nvidia packaging won't
notice and will allow the upgrade to go through without complaint, but
the nvidia driver won't load against the new Xserver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687738] Re: nvidia driver shows "magnet distortion"-like screen corruption and tearing when switching workspaces

2011-01-14 Thread Travis Watkins
Specifically, the part about enabling force_glx_sync when nvidia
hardware is detected. Although there is really no reason to not do this
for everyone, it's only a small (possible) performance hit. I initially
had a patch for 0.8 that did that just before the option was added to
the workaround plugin.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619365] Re: Screen corruption when X starts

2011-01-14 Thread Robert Premuz
I also encountered the same problem on newly installed Ubuntu 10.10
(Maverick) x64 on a PC that has Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB DDR2
PCI-E.

uname says:
Linux 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 2 02:41:37 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux
dpkg says:
ii xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5

The problem usually starts very shortly after the system boots and I'm
not even able to log in. Soon the system becomes unresponsive. If I boot
in recovery mode, I'm able to log in.

Putting nomodeset option in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT solved the
problem.

Another solution I found is explained on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting . The command for turning off KMS
for radeon driver:
# echo options radeon modeset=0 > /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf

Not sure what to make of the first null function call, but this seems to
be crashing from in nux. I'll close off the -ati task for now. So far
this is not looking like an X bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681915] Re: garbled graphics and text after launching unity

2011-01-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Oh, I didn't notice that you took care of packaging for it. In that
case since most of the work seems to be done, I don't see a reason not
to go ahead and upload it, so will do so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681915] Re: garbled graphics and text after launching unity

2011-01-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Good find John. We'll be uploading mesa 7.10 within the next week or
two. Sounds like this patch will be included in 7.10, so probably
easiest if we wait until that release is in natty, rather than adding it
as a patch. Meanwhile anyone with this issue can run xorg-edgers or the
patched PPA if they want to eliminate the corruption and testdrive the
fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 703034] [NEW] Xorg freeze when recovering from hibernate or sleep

2011-01-14 Thread Gilbert Dion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When the computer awakes from hibernate or sleep states, the display gets
powered but stays black (nothing is displayed). Computer seems to be running
ok, though: Caps Lock indicator toggles on and off, mouse pointer moves. I
tried to reboot the machine doing what I normally do in normal circonstances:
when I push the Power On button, there is a choice menu and I just strike Enter
toselect the first option which is shutting down the machine. In this bug
situation (black screen), pushing the Power button and striking Enter does
nothing.
This is a recent Acer all-in-one Aspire Z5700 series with 6 Gb memory and a
swap file of 9 Gb.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702550] Re: X forgets xinput settings on suspend

2011-01-14 Thread Sampo Niskanen
Hi,

Attached is the Xorg.0.log from my current session. The entries from
22970.161 onwards is generated by a single suspend-resume (which loses
the trackpoint settings). The xinput commands generate no output in the
logs.

I'll try to save the Xorg logs the next time the trackpoint is detected
as duplicate or stops working completely.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second

2011-01-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
If you do rule out a client app, or otherwise want to continue exploring
it as an X issue specifically, here's the next step.

We're going to be moving natty to its new X stack within the next week
or two. Currently this stack is available in xorg-edgers, and should
match almost exactly what will soon be in natty.

I'd like to have you attempt to reproduce your issue with this new
stack. If it still occurs with that stack, we can then take the the bug
upstream, or approach the kernel team or other appropriate groups about
it.

The PPA is available at: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-
edgers/+archive/ppa

Here's a simple way to install:
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

Then reboot your system to get to the new bits.

If you want to go back to stock Ubuntu, there is a corresponding ppa-purge tool:
  sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

Thank you for reporting this issue. Could you also include your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.0.log.old) from after reproducing the
issue?

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` too. These should be attached

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702978] [NEW] Can't suspend laptop or turn on second monitor after recent xserver update

2011-01-14 Thread Grzegorz Śliwiński
Public bug reported:

After recent maverick update (the one around 12.01.2011) and restarting
system, I can't suspend my laptop, it hangs with screen lit.

Also, when trying to turn on second monitor in TwinView mode through
nvidia-settings, all I get is black main screen with mouse pointer (I
can move it), and it's still lit.

I use nvidia proprietary drivers (260 If I remember correctly) and regularly
update my system.
My machine is Samsung R510 FS04PL.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second

2011-01-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, ok reason I ask is looking at your Xorg.0.log everything looks
totally bog standard except at the end there are 9 sequences of XRANDR
queries to the monitor. Those queries can typically cause screen
flickers such as what you're seeing. And it is not unprecedented for
some arbitrary client application to set up polling calls of X server
such as to check if a new monitor is installed; on some hardware this
works without flicker, on some it does. This behavior is typically
highly periodic, such as you're seeing. A way to check if this is the
case would be to review what processes you have running (e.g. look at ps
aux) and one by one shut them down until the blanking stops.

The other typical cause of blanking issues like this is underruns of the
GPU. Basically, X is not able to feed data through to your graphics
card fast enough. Often when this happens, there are error messages
printed to dmesg and/or Xorg.0.log, yet this does not appear in your
logs. Also, this problem tends to be intermittent/random rather than
periodic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 185600] Re: openoffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep

2011-01-14 Thread Louis-Dominique Dubeau
Ok, so this is happening again in 10.10. I've noticed a few more things
though:

1. This bug sometimes causes X to crash. I've experienced it a few
minutes ago. I had resumed from suspend maybe 4 hours ago and worked on
a bunch of things in Emacs, Firefox and Evolution and a few other X
clients (like xpdf). Then I turned to Open Office writer to check
something in a document. The document was very slow to scroll. Writer
was in effect exhibiting the symptoms described earlier in this bug
report.

After paging up maybe 4 or 5 times, X crashed.

The only X client started before the suspend-resume cycle and which
showed any trouble was Open Office. (Emacs, FF, Evolution were also all
started before the suspend-resume cycle: no problem with them.)

2. The soffice.bin process remained running from the previous X session.
Note that everything else which was X related died when the X session
died. Only, soffice.bin remained. Running oowriter from the command line
does nothing. The old soffice.bin must be killed before OO can be used
again.

3. I checked to see whether the HD was being accessed abnormally (e.g.
thrashing) but did not see anything abnormal there.

Why did I not experience X crashes before? I think the answer is just
that in the past, I would very quickly close OO as soon as I experienced
the bug so I was removing the opportunity for a crash. This time, I
insisted on scrolling to a bit of text I needed to cut and paste to
emacs. I thought I was really close to the passage I wanted to cut and
paste but I was wrong and X crashed before I could get there.

It may also have to do with the document I was scrolling. This is the
largest OO document I have. It also happens to contain about as much
Chinese as English. So of all the documents I work with this is the one
which is most taxing on oowriter.

Here are the results of apt-cache policy on the usual suspects:

2011-01-14 Thread Joseph Maillardet
I encounter this problem 2 or 3 times a day. Especially when I use my
Dell Latitude E6500 on the E-Port docking station which is connected to
a 1920x1200 24" monitor (laptop screen disactivated).

The first time in a day if I try to boot with laptop closed using the
dock power button (so only the 24" external screen is used), the system
freeze at the end of the plymouth splashscreen. If I open the laptop, I
have one chance on two.

Many time when I lock my screen then I try to get back : the screen stay
blank. Sometime I can go to console, other time the system is completely
frozen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579071] Re: savage_drv fails drawpix glDrawPixels demo/test/benchmark

2011-01-14 Thread Tormod Volden
I was hoping you had upgraded to Maverick :) I think the old libdrm
still should work (for radeon) so you can try force upgrading with dpkg
--force-depends, or --ignore-depends=libdrm-intel1 if I am guessing
right. Alternatively you can install just the libdrm packages from the
main xorg-edgers PPA.

Next time I spin Lucid packages in the radeon PPA I will add the patched
savage driver, but that is not often...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702867] [NEW] mouse pointer jumping when left-button clicked

2011-01-14 Thread Eymen Alyaz
Public bug reported:

I set up a Xdmx configuration to use my laptop as a secondary screen to my
desktop pc.
Unfortunately the mouse pointer behaves like described in the title. Both
computers are running the same operating system.

2011-01-14 Thread toal193
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-joystick

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 617421] Re: xrandr recognizing TV1 as connected although isn't

2011-01-14 Thread eugenio
This bug affect me too.
I have a intel graphic card and sometimes when I watch a video or when I login
the screen shakes and changes resolution.
So I decided to switch off the TV output writing a little xorg.conf (before
there wasn't) like this:

Section "Monitor"
   Identifier "TV1"
   Option "Ignore" "True"
EndSection

That's interesting. I wonder why this issue does not exist on Windows
using the same Firefox and the same nVidia driver.

Same with me: Lenovo T410 with Kubuntu 10.10
Crashes once or twice a day. Especially when doing hectic mouse movements
(firefox, quanta, copy/paste).
Not fund to work in such a way!
Similar bugs seems to be: 553789, 541500, 557895, 598656, 626746

Get the same behaviour as well with the following stack trace:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

2011-01-14 Thread Øyvind Stegard
See this thread at nvnews:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=152295 [launchpad.net bug
views excruciatingly slow]

particularly this official reply from nvidia:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2287025&postcount=7

.. in which AaronP states: "Thanks for reporting this. I took a look
today, and it appears that Firefox is using an enormous pixmap that
exceeds the GPU's maximum rendering dimensions, causing software
fallbacks. While we will attempt to make it as fast as possible,
performance would be greatly improved if Firefox would render using
surfaces that fit within the maximum renderable dimensions."

The bad launchpad.net performance in Firefox is bloody annoying, no
matter who is to blame. It does not help that launchpad.net itself is a
very slow website with high load-times per page view. Makes for a
sluggish impression in total..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2011-01-14 Thread Sune Bredahl
I had the same problem in xubuntu 10.10 and the solution was to "sudo
apt-get remove gnome-settings-daemon", not sure why that component is
installed in an xfce environment? I guess this is not a solution for you
guys here though...

Oh yes, I have the dreaded x58 + corei7 + nvidia 470gtx + SSD combo...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652731] Re: Appearance settings do not work in Xubuntu 10.10 RC

2011-01-14 Thread Sune Bredahl
Did a reinstall and my own solution from #11 did not work this time :-(

However I removed gnome-settings-deamon (sudo apt-get remove gnome-
settings-daemon) inspired by comments from bug #649809 and that has
solved the problem!

Not sure why that deamon is needed on XFCE anyway?
