[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741416] Re: Latest Update made 2 applets disappear
This doesn't sound like an X bug. Instead it sounds like the indicator icons haven't been found properly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745308] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x05000000)
I think this lockup bug was likely due to the older mesa that was present in ia32-libs. Version 20090808ubuntu11 was just recently added to natty a day ago; it's possible at the time your system locked up that you had the older version of ia32-libs with the broken mesa. Have you had any system lockups since you upgraded to this version of ia32-libs? If not, then please see if you can reproduce the lockup again with this ia32-libs, and give it a few days to recur. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745308 Title: [arrandale] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x0500) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

These gpu lockup bugs typically involve your computer freezing (except sometimes the mouse cursor moves), with a blank screen or the screen no longer painting or responding to clicks. Only way to recover is to power cycle your computer. Do you ever notice problems such as that? From the log message it appears you did experience that at one time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 743331] Re: [945GME] old window contents left on background
Yeah, what that sounds like is Ye Olde direct rendering non-indirection bug #96991. Or maybe not; I'd need to see what you're seeing to be sure. But check the screenshots on that bug to see if it matches. Well, I recently put in a fix to xserver which solved a bug with improperly drawn menus which we think fixed a few other issues, and perhaps that improved the situation here too. Let's give it a few more days to see if you happen to see it again and can take a picture. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This occurred when I was testing Ubuntu via a LiveCD. There are several things that occurred. The gnome panels launched instead of Unity. See my screenshot. My monitor resolution is 1280x1024, but Ubuntu is running in 1024 x 768 (This was also the case when 10.10 came around, that is why my PC still has Lucid installed. I was hoping this would be fixed my now, but alas, no). There are various graphic glitches on the desktop and in the menus that appear and disappear as I hover my mouse over them, or click. These are visible in the screenshot. A window opened upon entering the desktop that said there had been a system problem or error of some kind, and kindly asking me to file a bug report. I clicked the button, but I'm pretty sure that the bug report app crashed. So another window appeared, asking if I would like to report the bug. I followed the onscreen instructions (the app didn't crash this time around), and here I am, typing this bug report. I do not intend to file individual bug reports for each of the items listed, but I hope this was helpful. Let me know if you need to know more. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738526] Re: Launching a Qt app crashes X with NVIDIA card even after fix for 650539
Ashely, if you're interested in debugging this particular issue further, here are some actions that could be taken: 1. Reproduce the issue and using gdb with a break set on doListFontsWithInfo and 'print c ' after the segfault to see what the contents of that structure is. This is to see if like in bug #683016 the c->num_fpes value is undefined. 2. Add a check in doListFontsWithInfo() to bail out early if c->fpe_list is NULL. I don't think that would be a proper fix, just paper over the issue, but it might be a good workaround for natty if it works. However if it does work it may simply move the bad behavior to somewhere else... 3. Test the current git version of xfs. There's been a couple changes to how font paths are done in xfs to match what xserver expects; perhaps that better avoids this situation. If you can't reproduce the crash when using this newer xfs, perhaps we simply need to update to newer xfs (or at least backport the font path patches). ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738526 Title: Launching a Qt app crashes X with NVIDIA card even after fix for 650539 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

145920400 is 0x08B29190 which does look a little like a pointer (would be more convincing if it was 8 digits of hex rather than 7 or if the hex value matched one of the pointers in the backtrace), but it probably is merely an uninitialized integer, and just looks similar because its the same byte size as an ordinary pointer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/683016 Title: emacs23/rxvt/xawtv/vlc crash Xorg w/ proprietary NVIDIA driver ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738526] Re: Launching a Qt app crashes X with NVIDIA card even after fix for 650539
Thanks for collecting the gdb backtraces; in this case having several is very informative - the code crashes in different places each time, however it's the same routine, so presumably it's the same root cause. Since uninstalling xfs made it go away that makes me think xfs is corrupting the font structure at some point. Also thanks for listing possible dupe bugs. I've reviewed them and duped a couple, and commented on a couple others that look like they might be dupes but it's unclear. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738526 Title: Launching a Qt app crashes X with NVIDIA card even after fix for 650539 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709505] Re: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel
Hello Alberto, Finally Worked! Yes I'know I can broke the system, but it's a natty partition for testing, not my main install for work. Anyway, many thanks for the advice. I've also straced X start-up, because of the Xorg errors: libGL symbol link files sanity check failed (EE) fglrx(0): PowerXpress: Fail to switch libGL link files. I've found that fglrx misses links for libGL in /usr/lib/ so I've created the following: libGL.so -> /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so libGL.so.1 -> /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1 libGL.so.1.2 -> /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1.2 Apart from the abovementioned for libglx.so And then tried X with aticonfig --px-dgpu X started perfectly (fglrxinfo gives ATI finally (!) running) and then tried aticonfig --px-igpu, with Intel running by fglrx (I've not checked if it turns off the ATI for lowering the consumption) Attached I enclosed both finally working Xorg logs These links could be incorporated as slaves in the alternatives of gl_conf? I guess... Cheers and many many thanks for your work in having fglrx working Anton On 31/03/11 21:20, Alberto Milone wrote: > @Anton > The driver doesn't support PowerXpress yet, so those commands are expected to > fail. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709505] Re: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel
I run a partition for test releases only. The main purpose is so when I do a distribution upgrade on my working partition there won't be any major hiccups. If I upgrade my test partition again to Natty, will this be fixed? I don't want to go back to the drawing board again with a live Gparted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709505 Title: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709505] Re: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel
@Anton The driver doesn't support PowerXpress yet, so those commands are expected to fail. Also by changing links to libraries you risk breaking your system. @EricDHH Try typing "sudo ldconfig" Also, please attach the output of the following commads: 1) ldconfig -p | grep libati 2) update-alternatives --display gl_conf @all There's no need to run "aticonfig --initial" as fglrx now works even without xorg.conf.
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709505] Re: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel
This start to be offtopic with the bug title, because now fglrx installs with the 2.6.38 kernel, so it's possible that Alberto prefers to close it and open a new one. Latest tries I've been done with fglrx 8.840 in a up-to-date natty with intel/Ati hybrid: #aticonfig --px-dgpu PowerXpress: Discrete GPU is selected (High-Performance mode), please restart Xserver for changes to take effect! PowerXpress: Fail to switch GLX link file, please check whether driver install correctly #aticonfig --px-igpu PowerXpress: Integrated GPU is selected (Power-Saving mode), please restart Xserver for changes to take effect! PowerXpress: Fail to switch GLX link file, please check whether driver install correctly I've seen that when trying to change cards aticonfig expects /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so to be a link By changing it to a link, and trying again, you discover the names of the linked files in each mode, and they are (supposed to be): /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/FGL.renamed.libglx.so for the original libglx.so mesa file with --px-igpu and /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/fglrx/fglrx-libglx.so for the fglrx libglx.so with --px-dgpu and copying/linking these files you can avoid the Fail in aticonfig. But X keeps complaining with: Discrete --px-dgpu: [ 6452.269] (II) fglrx(0): === [xdl_xs110_atiddxPreInit] === begin [ 6452.269] (II) fglrx(0): PowerXpress: Discrete GPU is selected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10
