[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: MASTER: support graphics card hot switch

2011-06-18 Thread Eric Appleman
Looks like AMD has a questionable Optimus alternative in the works.

It's called BACON and is muxless.

Plus, no OpenGL on the dedicated card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777407] Re: Xorg freeze after Natty update - NVIDIA driver

2011-06-18 Thread yurx cherio
Same here. I have GeForce GT 220. My whole desktop freezes every other
day. It locks the whole X - keyboard, mouse, the image freezes and stays
on the screen. It is impossible to do anything from the local console.
The best thing I can do is to SSH from my laptop and do "service gdm
restart".

Start X, and under X an xterm running bash.
Select some text and paste it at the command prompt. It is not echoed.
Type any keyboard character and the mouse-pasted text appears,
 followed by the typed character.
This is not a bash problem: typing to cat or ed shows the same
 results.

I played a bit with pointerMode but see no relation. For 0 the mouse
pointer is shown, for 1 it is not shown until one moves the mouse.
As far as I can see, this works as documented.

I also played a bit more with the bug reported. I now find that "It is not
echoed" may have to be replaced by "It is echoed after approximately 50
seconds". However, if I open an "emacs --no-splash" window, without doing
anything there, no keyboard or mouse activity related to that emacs
window, then pasted text is echoed afted approximately 1 second.

So, the hypothesis is that emacs does some polling that xterm does not do,
and this polling moves some event queue.

That was the "select and paste and wait for the pasted text to be echoed".
The other reproducible bug is "say _mwm_, see the message about it not
being installed, and wait for the following shell prompt". This shell
prompt comes after a varying amount of time, sometimes after 50 seconds,
sometimes after 10 seconds, sometimes almost immediately. But what also
happens is that only the top half (a few but not all pixel lines) is
shown,
and the remainder appears first after a while, or upon activity of mouse
or keyboard.

I imagine that it is xterm that does the drawing, so if sometimes only the
top half of a line is displayed, that looks like an xterm or X bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] [NEW] wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-06-18 Thread j-b-m
Public bug reported:

Wacom input jumps while drawing with xserver-xorg-core version
2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1
It is working correctly with version 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.

This issue is somehow related to issue #762938 (no pressure sensitivity
with wacom tablet).

A fix for pressure sensitivity was proposed by Chase Douglas in the
utouch-team/unstable ppa.

Using the official ubuntu Qt version, stylus position works fine, but pressure
sensitivity does not work.
When using Chase Douglas's ppa, pressure works fine, but the cursor position
jumps while drawing.

Note that the issue only happens when using the wacom stylus that is
"pressure sensitive", not when using the wacom mouse that has no
pressure.

As previously said, the "jumping cursor" issue disappears if I downgrade
xserver-xorg-core to version 1.10.1-1ubuntu1

The bug can be seen in Krita, when drawing a line, the cursor jumps, a picture
showing the problem can be seen here:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/73690009/Screenshot-unnamed [modified] –
Krita.png

I can reproduce the issue on a tablet pc with touch sensitive screen and
a desktop pc with usb Wacom tablet.

At least 2 other users are having the same issue, see:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pencil/+bug/762938

the option in winecfg to allow fullscreen windows to grab the mouse
makes no difference.

You can use the custom argument '-nointro' to skip the intro videos and
get straight to the menu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 792598] Re: XWarpPointer sends wrong raw mouse input event

2011-06-18 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #30068
   http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30068

** Also affects: xorg-server via
   http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30068
   Importance: Unknown
   Status: Unknown

** Description changed:

  From https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30068
"XWarpPointer should generate Motion but not RawMotion (it's RAW, right?). And
it definitely generates wrong RawMotion, because it contains valuators' values
equal to absolute screen coordinates of mouse move target (and that is
definitely wrong, since all other mouse events are relative).

So, my point is that XWarpPointer shouldn't generate RawMotion events at
  all."

He also includes a small testcase.

Happens in Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 (or any Ubuntu with XInput2 support).
Affects apps that use xinput2, e.g. wine as of roughly wine-1.3.20 or later.

Drives users nuts... the main menu of Bioshock Demo and many other
games is nearly completely useless because of the jumping mouse
- when xinput2 is used; see http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27380
+ when xinput2 is used; see http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27156

The lead Wine developer, Alexandre Julliard, has been waiting for this
bug to be fixed for some time now. He's trying to work around it,
  without much luck so far.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 798509] Re: pressing 2 or Enter terminates X server on live CD

2011-06-18 Thread Eliah Kagan
I have found that, once Ubuntu is installed (with Ubiquity), even in the
same login session in which it was installed (after clicking Continue
Testing), pressing 2 or Enter no longer terminates the X server. The
test system was the 20110617 daily-live on the virtual machine.

So I reset the virtual machine to its pre-installation state, cloned it
to create a control, and installed Oneiric on it again while running the
control, so I could examine log files from both systems side by side.
Specifically, I booted both systems (selecting "Try Ubuntu without
installing" from the nongraphical boot menus) and logged on with unity-
2d sessions, disabled screensaver screen locking, set their screen
resolutions down from 1024x768 to 800x600, installed openssh-server (and
set passwords for the live session user), and then monitored
/var/log/Xorg.0.log and /home/ubuntu/.xsession-errors on both systems
via tail -f in nongraphical SSH sessions. I launched Ubiquity and
installed Ubuntu on the first machine (the experimental), and left the
other (the control) alone for comparison. After installation, I pressed
the alphanumeric 2 key in each machine; as expected, the experimental
machine's X server was not terminated, but the control machine's X
server was.

I did not notice any differences in the .xsession-errors files that
appeared noteworthy, but there were additional XKB (X keyboard
extension) messages in the experimental Xorg.0.log that appeared while
Ubiquity was running, and did not appear at all in the control
Xorg.0.log.

This was the output of tail -f on the experimental Xorg.0.log (running
Ubiquity):

Most of the differences are due to the messages that appeared on the
control when I pressed 2 and the X server was terminated. However, these
messages appeared in the experimental Xorg.0.log without corresponding
messages in the control Xorg.0.log:

[ 864.528] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile

I don't know if this is significant or not, but since this bug seems to
be in the way the X server handles keyboard input, and Ubiquity "fixes"
the problem and also performs additional keyma

2011-06-18 Thread Christophe Prud'homme
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

after an upgrade on 2011-06-12(compiz) xorg started to freeze after some time
of usage.
The freeze are not always fatal, sometimes going to the console and going back
allows to continue working However this works only once.
typically what happens is that there is a one flicker of the screen and then it
is frozen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd

2011-06-18 Thread Tristan B
The problem seems to be solved for me after performing the following
steps which are a combination of littleendians solution and a post from
unknown47 in this forum entry:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743301.

1. Goto edit-mode in grub and add "acpi_osi=Linux" to the line that says "...
quiet splash ..."
2. Now you can boot into ubuntu. To make this grub change persistent
edit the /etc/default/grub. Change the "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT" line into
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash acpi_osi = Linux"
3. Execute sudo update-grub2
4. Add "setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00" to /etc/rc.local and to the scripts in
/etc/pm/sleep.d. Added this line always at the beginning of the scripts.
5. Reboot and everything should be fine so far

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd

2011-06-18 Thread Tristan B
I have the same problem with my new acer 5735z.
As soon as it comes to the grub screen my laptop display turns black.
If I use an external monitor I am able to boot into ubuntu and add the
"setpci"-script to the sleep.d and rc.local files. But as soon as I i.e. change
display settings the screen gets black again. The same for the grub menue
at startup.
