It looks like a synchronization problem on some event >> queue. > > Perhaps the "pointerMode" resource is related. If you set it to 0 (zero), > it's supposed to disable that feature. I played a bit with pointerMode but see no relation. For 0 the mouse pointer is shown, for 1 it is not shown until one moves the mouse. As far as I can see, this works as documented. I also played a bit more with the bug reported. I now find that "It is not echoed" may have to be replaced by "It is echoed after approximately 50 seconds". However, if I open an "emacs --no-splash" window, without doing anything there, no keyboard or mouse activity related to that emacs window, then pasted text is echoed afted approximately 1 second. So, the hypothesis is that emacs does some polling that xterm does not do, and this polling moves some event queue. That was the "select and paste and wait for the pasted text to be echoed". The other reproducible bug is "say _mwm_, see the message about it not being installed, and wait for the following shell prompt". This shell prompt comes after a varying amount of time, sometimes after 50 seconds, sometimes after 10 seconds, sometimes almost immediately. But what also happens is that only the top half (a few but not all pixel lines) is shown, and the remainder appears first after a while, or upon activity of mouse or keyboard. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] [NEW] wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
Public bug reported: Wacom input jumps while drawing with xserver-xorg-core version 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1 It is working correctly with version 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1. This issue is somehow related to issue #762938 (no pressure sensitivity with wacom tablet). A fix for pressure sensitivity was proposed by Chase Douglas in the utouch-team/unstable ppa. Using the official ubuntu Qt version, stylus position works fine, but pressure sensitivity does not work. When using Chase Douglas's ppa, pressure works fine, but the cursor position jumps while drawing. Note that the issue only happens when using the wacom stylus that is "pressure sensitive", not when using the wacom mouse that has no pressure. As previously said, the "jumping cursor" issue disappears if I downgrade xserver-xorg-core to version 1.10.1-1ubuntu1 The bug can be seen in Krita, when drawing a line, the cursor jumps, a picture showing the problem can be seen here: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/73690009/Screenshot-unnamed [modified] – Krita.png I can reproduce the issue on a tablet pc with touch sensitive screen and a desktop pc with usb Wacom tablet. At least 2 other users are having the same issue, see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pencil/+bug/762938 Using Ubuntu 11.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-10.44-generic-pae 2.6.38.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-10-generic-pae i686 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: kwin Date: Sat Jun 18 18:44:38 2011 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: kubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox-ose, 4.0.4, 2.6.38-9-generic-pae, i686: installed virtualbox-ose, 4.0.4, 2.6.38-10-generic-pae, i686: installed GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:215a] InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Alpha i386 (20110202) MachineType: LENOVO 2985FJG ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-10-generic-pae root=UUID=1524b654-818e-4d16-807f-4e0db5f1b26f ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcKernelCmdLine_: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-10-generic-pae root=UUID=1524b654-818e-4d16-807f-4e0db5f1b26f ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 Renderer: Unknown SourcePackage: xorg-server UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 09/15/2010 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 6QET53WW (1.23 ) dmi.board.name: 2985FJG dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr6QET53WW(1.23):bd09/15/2010:svnLENOVO:pn2985FJG:pvrThinkPadX201Tablet:rvnLENOVO:rn2985FJG:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 2985FJG dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X201 Tablet dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu6 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau N/A ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 kubuntu natty patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/799202 Title: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

And it definitely generates wrong RawMotion, because it contains valuators' values equal to absolute screen coordinates of mouse move target (and that is definitely wrong, since all other mouse events are relative). So, my point is that XWarpPointer shouldn't generate RawMotion events at all." He also includes a small testcase. Happens in Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 (or any Ubuntu with XInput2 support). Affects apps that use xinput2, e.g. wine as of roughly wine-1.3.20 or later. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 798509] Re: pressing 2 or Enter terminates X server on live CD
I have found that, once Ubuntu is installed (with Ubiquity), even in the same login session in which it was installed (after clicking Continue Testing), pressing 2 or Enter no longer terminates the X server. The test system was the 20110617 daily-live on the virtual machine. So I reset the virtual machine to its pre-installation state, cloned it to create a control, and installed Oneiric on it again while running the control, so I could examine log files from both systems side by side. Specifically, I booted both systems (selecting "Try Ubuntu without installing" from the nongraphical boot menus) and logged on with unity- 2d sessions, disabled screensaver screen locking, set their screen resolutions down from 1024x768 to 800x600, installed openssh-server (and set passwords for the live session user), and then monitored /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /home/ubuntu/.xsession-errors on both systems via tail -f in nongraphical SSH sessions. I launched Ubiquity and installed Ubuntu on the first machine (the experimental), and left the other (the control) alone for comparison. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd
The problem seems to be solved for me after performing the following steps which are a combination of littleendians solution and a post from unknown47 in this forum entry: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743301. 1. Goto edit-mode in grub and add "acpi_osi=Linux" to the line that says "... quiet splash ..." 2. Now you can boot into ubuntu. To make this grub change persistent edit the /etc/default/grub. Change the "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT" line into GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash acpi_osi = Linux" 3. Execute sudo update-grub2 4. Add "setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00" to /etc/rc.local and to the scripts in /etc/pm/sleep.d. Added this line always at the beginning of the scripts. 5. Reboot and everything should be fine so far -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/744187 Title: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/744187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd
I have the same problem with my new acer 5735z. As soon as it comes to the grub screen my laptop display turns black. If I use an external monitor I am able to boot into ubuntu and add the "setpci"-script to the sleep.d and rc.local files. But as soon as I i.e. change display settings the screen gets black again. The same for the grub menue at startup. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/744187 Title: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/744187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
