[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805777] [NEW] screen freeze at login

2011-07-04 Thread Michael Harden
Public bug reported:

The session worked fine, I logged out, I was going to test another login
option, I unfortitaly did not choose another option to log in as. So it
was logging back in as the ubuntu 2d environment. The login never
completed, the screen went completely blank with only the mouse
appearing, I had to restart the system in order to log back into the
system correctly. After the restart of the system I was unable to
recreate the same error.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805371] Re: [Natty] System Monitor does not show the process Xorg.

2011-07-04 Thread Detlef Lechner
I learned that the command '~$ gksu gnome-system-monitor' will show all
processes owned by root. So it shows Xorg as well. This is in contrast to
gnome-system-monitor's behaviour in Lucid and is not reflected in man 1
gnome-system-monitor.
man 1 gnome-system-monitor is of poor quality because it does not contain
sufficient information.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805759] [NEW] windows go blank when they are too big

2011-07-04 Thread JAKemp
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded my 10.10 Install to 11.04. I use two monitors, one is
1920x1200, and the other is 1280x800. When a window is on the
small(laptop) monitor, it can be maximised fine, but when I try and
maximise or make a window larger than somewhere around 1280x800, the
window goes solid white. It still responds to input, but I just can't
see anything. I say around 1280x800, because if you have two windows on
the large screen and make one too big, the other can go white as well.

Everything else is fine, performance is good, and the menus never
disappear.

That does indeed look similar. I definitely feel the other kinetic
scrolling symptom, too: events persisting after I lift my fingers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805700] [NEW] Natty - intel 82945G/GZ graphics card - Intel driver fails

2011-07-04 Thread Ghislain Bugnicourt
Public bug reported:

Hi,
When booting on a Natty live-USB on my computer, a gnome-panel like desktop is
loaded instead of Unity.
It seems to be related to a problem with the intel graphics driver : the
Xorg.0.log tells "(EE)open /dev/fb0 No such file or directory" and then the
vesa driver is used instead.
If I create a xorg.conf file (by default there's nothing), with ' Driver
"intel" ' in ' Section "Device" ', then restart X with "sudo service gdm
restart", Xorg fails to load (No devices detected, Fatal server error:No
screens found) and I see a command-line prompt (same result as when trying
Ubuntu 10.10).
If I do the same but with the line ' Driver "vesa" ', of course it works the
same as without xorg.conf. Except that Xorg.0.log shows no error at all.

Nevertheless, Ubuntu 10.04 works, with compiz effects activated ! The
intel driver is OK in Xorg.0.log . Note that at first with 10.04 I had
freezes, but they were corrected by installing compiz-fusion-icon,
selecting the "indirect rendering" option, and making this change
permanent. I can't say more.

I'm not sure what package causes the problem. Sorry also for my bad english.
Graphics card : Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev
02)
I tried every option available when booting on the live-usb (nomodeset for
instance).
I also tried using another screen, which works with Ubuntu 11.04 on another
computer. Same problem.

xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed : 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7
xorg: Installed : 1:7.6+4ubuntu3

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781402] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 / Unity freezing when screen is 'woken up'

2011-07-04 Thread szabie
Hi,
just to confirm that method mentioned in post #12 works and solved the issue.

Toshiba L40, Ubuntu 11.04 with clean install.
Graphics: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller.

Anyway perhaps it helps to find the root cause:
Issue only happened when there was open window on my desktop. Either put down
all windows on the sidebar or closing all windows prevents the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781143] Re: two finger scroll event should end when fingers are lifted from touchpad

2011-07-04 Thread Chris Coulson
I'm not sure if there's another bug tracking this, but I think this is
due to kinetic scrolling events.

Subscribing Chase, although I think you're aware of this one already (I
spoke to you very briefly about it at UDS)

2011-07-04 Thread Anoop Karollil
Yes, indeed, it doesn't seem to be keyboard related - my system froze
after I swapped the keyboards (new log attached). Its my work PC and it
seems to happen over weekends during long periods of inactivity. But it
has happened during 'office' hours too. I guess I will try the driver
from Oneric.

[SOLVED]
Just installed 11.04 and got this same issue. Just a background, no
functionality, no menus, no right clicking, nothing. All keys didn't
work. Yes, I have an nvidia video card.

remotely connected from another computer:
# ssh myusername@192.168.x.x
# sudo killall Xorg
# sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
# sudo apt-get update
# sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
# sudo reboot

and the new menus appeared!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726268] Re: xorg memory leak

2011-07-04 Thread Uros Dukanac
Just to confirm that i have same problem: OpenSuse 11.4 64 bit, NVidia
drivers 270.41.06-5.1

Here is an output for 5 days of standard usage:

XOrg: 29436K / 75625K / 241952K / 313420K / 371412K
Plasma desktop: 29788K / 81688K / 88208K / 89252K /93828K
Kwin: 31188K / 36984K / 37708K /50812K / 58028K

Even if I do nothing at all allocated memory gets bigger. I'm using
NVidia drivers 270.41... provided via Yast repositories. When I logout
or restart system memory usage drops to~25000K, but after 3 - 4 days it
gets too slow to work with, even with 8GB RAM on 6 core CPU.

These processes listed, after 3 days, are the top memory consumers.

My Thoshiba Satellite R830 (Sandy Bridge) is affected, too. I'm using
32-Bit userland.

The following things did not help:
- stock kernel 2.6.39.1 32bit
- stock kernel 2.6.39.1 64bit (with 32bit userland)
- unity 2d session
- unity 3d session
- lxde session
- lubuntu session

It seems to crash after the same sequence of key strokes, but the
sequence changes after reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805477] [NEW] Xorg crash

2011-07-04 Thread Heikki Suonsivu
Public bug reported:

Using a VIA cpu&chipset based computer. VLC and mplayer both crash when
video starts playing. I took the edge drivers but did not see much
improvement (now I seem to get few video frames before crash). Going to
full screen mode triggers it immediately, window video shows few frames
and then X crashes.

I can send this computer if you need a platform to test the hardware, I
have extra units (it is eBOX 486x series one).

I have seen video working on this this hardware earlier, few years ago,
on Ubuntu.

Booting the Maverick 2.6.35 kernel fixes the colour issues on the HDMI
monitor. However this introduces a problem on the VGA monitor (the
display is shifted left leaving a black bar on the right of the screen.

2011-07-04 Thread Austin English

The X.org bug has been fixed, see
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30068#c5

===
Fixed in master, closing.

commit 23a783278963919778d017965542e0f983814e37
Author: Peter Hutterer
Date: Fri Jun 24 11:02:23 2011 +1000

input: add POINTER_NORAW to avoid generation of raw events (#30068)

RawEvents are supposed to be events coming from the driver. When warping
the
pointer, this should not generate a raw event.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762478] Re: [nouveau] No icons shown in unity launcher

2011-07-04 Thread André Barmasse
Still no improvemt with the black launcher on my machine with Natty
Narwhal and a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 card. The panel is still black, yet
transparent with an application running under it. The programs are
clickable and popups are showing up (see image). I have now unity 3.8.16
installed and the Nouveau graphic driver enabled (as the Nvidia driver
still does not seem to be activateable through jockey). Hopefully the
right patch will soon be in the Natty repositories ...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 783002] Re: Auto logoff ubuntu 11.04

2011-07-04 Thread Artem Gabrielyan
This bug has been annoying me since 1004 (910 was ok). As long as I remember,
the bug was in xorg package. I can't provide you with the number, but the
sudden logout occurred due to something like switching to an empty
thread/socket (?). On my nvidia ION nettop sudden logouts happened frequently
with compiz on, less frequently with compiz off, and almost instantly while
using Firefox on certain sites (for example, maps.yandex.ru, because in my
opinion there are many switchings of graphics threads/sockets).
The correction was made to first check if the thread/socket we are going to
switch to is empty. 1010 comprised newer X version which included this
correction, thus there were no sudden logouts at all.
Now in 1104 the bug is back. This time though, I experienced sudden logout only
once and not on ION (gave it away) but on another pc, supposedly my desktop (it
is nvidia-based). My intel-based netbook seems to be ok with 1104.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers

2011-07-04 Thread Tom Gelinas
Brendan Donegan of Canonical responded to the request I made to the
Ubuntu Hardware Certification Programme, acknowledged the problem and
said a T510 would be tested. At the very least, the problem will be
noted. Considering I don't pay for support, that's a pretty good
response!
