[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656673] Re: Wireless mouse Logitech M305 sluggish

2011-11-27 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Daniel, I would suggest you open a bug specifically for your setting.
Here it will get unnoticed, since it is not on a recent release and in
my hardware I haven't seen this for months.

Just mark this one as invalid if you agree and enter ALT F2

ubuntu-bug xorg

on your system so that it gathers information about your hardware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656673] [NEW] Wireless mouse Logitech M305 sluggish

2011-11-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: udev

Using Maverick RC on a Dell E6410. Since the update from Lucid, my USB
Logitech M305 mouse shows a sluggish cursor, it moves slower and not
smoothly on the screen. I tried with two different mouses (same model)
and both show the same behavior, so I discard a hardware problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 897062] [NEW] Screen 'refreshes' all windows (seems like crash & restart)

2011-11-27 Thread Kane York
Public bug reported:

Please note that for the next paragraph, I will use "desktop" to refer
to all open windows.

At rare, seemingly random points when I am using the system, the desktop
will look like it is "freaking out". Next it will bring 'random' windows
to the front, then the screen goes blank, then I see my background, then
all windows are back in another order.

A quick google search returned no obvious copies of this problem,
although I did check my .xsession-errors and found the following
interesting lines:

gnome-session[1532]: WARNING: Application 'compiz.desktop' killed by signal
gnome-session[1532]: WARNING: App 'compiz.desktop' respawning too quickly
gnome-session[1532]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. Sorry

Followed by a bunch of "initializing" messages. I'm pretty sure that's
where the crash happened.

Please disregard any and all assumptions I have made if necessary.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681945] Re: Xorg.log flooded with specific Xalloc warning message about 0 size memory

2011-11-27 Thread Garry Leach
I am using 11.04.

I have had problems with displaying the Grub boot menu, plus getting a
warning from the monitor (Dell 24 inch) about matching the resolution.
After much "research" & some trial & error with changing Grub2's input
files (GFXMODE & VGA=), I now have the grub menu, but I do get an Ubuntu
error msg (about VGA=, which I realise is unrelated to this bug).

So I tried running in recovery mode & that is when I received the error
msg about memory.

I have an nVidia Corporation G96 [GeForce 9500 GT] (rev a1) chip on a
card, & "using" NVidia accelerated graphics driver (version 173),
although the Additional Drivers tool says that it is activated but not
in use (I have read that this msg is incorrect). I previously had the
"version current" installed, but changed it when it also said that it
was not in use...

I also get a major failure when I try to return to the desktop (from a
console), using ctl/alt/F7; only the bottom half of the screen shows
anything, but it is gibberish.

Regards, Garry.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)

2011-11-27 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I think it would help the developers to have more detailed descriptions
of the problem as it relates to oneiric.

For example, it is not clear from the above posts what the problem is
exactly, for it has variously been described before. Does the second
screen flicker, does it show anything at all?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755791] Re: [RS690M] No 3d acceleration in Radeon X1200 with new Gallium r300 / 3d drivers in 11.04 (Needs kernel quirk)

2011-11-27 Thread Ian McMichael
OK, I spoke too early in my last post. The machine was working fine all
day Thursday with the official 3.0.0-13-generic kernel. Then when I
booted it on Friday morning, lightdm displayed fine but the UI froze
logging into any account with a background bitmap and mouse cursor.
Unity did not display, and apart from using CTRL+ALT+F1 to switch to
another console, the GUI was completely unusable.

Thinking I may have an ecryptfs issue, I booted off a USB stick with the
live Oneric i386 image on it. This gave the same error. I removed the
hard disk from the machine and tried again to completely remove any
existing configuration or broken file-system causes. The result was the
same, the GUI froze.

Next I downloaded a Natty i386 CD image and put this on the flash drive.
This release had never caused me any issues on the HP Compaq 6715b.
However, this now caused the same GUI freeze trying to launch Unity.

Eventually, I went back to the Lucid LTS i386 image with Gnome and
everything booted fine and I was able to use the GUI from the flash
drive. I used this UI to download the patched kernel I have posted in
this bug and copied it back to my system. I booted back into the hard-
drive installation, switched to console 1 with CTRL+ALT+F1 and used dpkg
to re-install my 3.0.0.13 kernel with the AMD patches. After a reboot I
was again able to log in and the Unity interface displays again.
However, the horrific lagging and general lack of usability of the
interface on this machine remain.

Does the RS690M have some sort of firmware the kernel can corrupt? The
Canonical 3.0.0-13-generic kernel is the first time on this particular
machine I have ever had a complete show-stopper bug where the UI fails
to display. (This is after running Natty for 6 months on the same
machine previously!) I now believe we may have two bugs here. One that
corrupts the firmware in some way and actually stops the RS690M working
on these machines, and another (maybe Compiz) that causes the horrendous
lag and lack of usability.

What do others experiencing these issues think?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854206] Re: no desktop login, just console. xorg Matrox MGA driver fails to initialize

2011-11-27 Thread Tormod Volden
I just discovered that Debian and Ubuntu carry a patch which changes related
code, and I wonder if this patch is at fault. It looks like it was introduced
after 10.04. Can you please try to rebuild the package without this patch?
 sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-mga
 apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-mga
 cd xserver-xorg-video-mga-*
 sed -i '/^02_/s/^/#/' debian/patches/series
 debuild -b -us -uc
 cd ..
 sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-mga_*.deb

That's going to take a while. I won't be at the console of this
machine for a while and I'll have to boot the 10.04 live CD.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876762] Re: KDE crashes at login with desktop effects enabled

2011-11-27 Thread jhoechtl
Sorry for #20, this is actually wrong, kdm doesn't crash after switching
desktop effects. But if you want to safely re-login after a logout, you
can choose restart X-Server on the login prompt. The next login will not
crash kdm and desktop effects remain enabled.

I wonder if it is a PCI library bug rather than the graphics driver. Can you
also give the output from the working 10.04.3 release? Use this to limit the
info to the graphics card:

Essentially, I was able to run 10.04 and 10.10 just fine, but when I
upgraded to 11.04 the login screen never appeared. I noticed that some

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854445] Re: Asus ep121 (eee slate) touchscreen not working

2011-11-27 Thread Chris Bagwell
The discussion then moved over to linux-input mailing list were it got
fully resolved by hid-multitouch developer. A fix will be in Linux 3.3
(its in a hid next branch). The fix is slightly larger than adding new
product ID's to hid-multitouch. The touchscreen uses a "MT serial"
protocol that happened to be added to hid-multitouch for another
touchscreen in November timeframe as well. This version of eGalax
touchscreen makes use of that new feature in hid-multitouch.

This issue is pure kernel side issue and nothing to change in xf86
-input-evdev if you want to reassign bug report. If your interested in
more why xf86-input-evdev was acting strange with HW you can look at
thread in comment #4.

2011-11-27 Thread Bruce Crowther
Go to Launchpad and add the ppa for ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates. You will need to
completely remove nvidia current with synaptic or via a terminal before you
will be able to install the new version, if your system is as crabby as mine
was about installing the 290.10 version.
It certainly seems to work the charm for the white screen problem.

yeah I hope it will hit the repos soon!

I saw in the releasenotes of 290.10 this and I was happy reading it:

- Fixed a regression that caused blank/white windows when exhausting
video memory on GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs while using composited
desktops.

I should try it out soon!

I will try it as soon as it hits the repos... Anyone else tried it

Screenshot of keyboard layouts list when it changed after Ctrl+Alt+K is pressed.

I'm using three keyboard layouts in Kubuntu 11.10 that installed in following
order:
1) English (US);
2) Russian;
3) Ukrainian

I found that several keyboard combinations to switch layouts has issues
that makes working with system, especially with texts, very
uncomfortable. The main issue is that switching procedure differs from
manner in which keyboard layout installed but there are some other
issues too. Next I'm describing in detail all the combinations and found
issues.

Alt + Caps Lock – with Right Alt + Caps Lock it stops switching on last
layout – UA.

Alt + Ctrl — 1) with Left Alt + Left Ctrl is wrong switching order (US-UA-RU);
2) with Right Alt + Right Ctrl is right switching order but it stops switching
on last layout - UA

Alt + Shift — 1) with Left Alt+ Left Shift is wrong switching order (US-UA-RU);
2) with Right Alt + Right Shift is right switching order but it stops switching
on last layout – UA.

Alt + Space – with Right Alt + Space it stops switching on last layout – UA.

Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout) – Shift+Caps Lock
switching to RU but must to UA as UA is the last layout.

Ctrl + Shift – with Left Ctrl+ Left Shift and with Right Ctrl + Left Shift is
wrong switching order (US-UA-RU)

Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout) – Right Ctrl switching
to RU, but must to UA, as UA is the last layout.

Both Alt`s – not works if first Left Alt and then Right Alt pressed (if first
pressed Right Alt and then Left Alt - it works)

Both Ctrl`s – not works if first Left Ctrl and then Right Ctrl pressed (if
first pressed Right Ctrl and then Left Ctrl - it works)

Both Shift's – wrong order if first right Shift pressed and than left Shift
(US-UA-RU) (if first left Shift pressed and than right – right order)

Right Alt – it stops switching on last layout – UA.

Ctrl+Alt+K. This combination is not working at all. When I press it the list of
layouts, that we can see clicking by right mouse button on layout indicator,
changes the view like in picture in attachment (layout.png).

All this issues makes the work in system, especially with texts, very
uncomfortable and should be fixed.

Тhanks in advance.

Actually, we have three problems:
1) Alt+Ctrl+K

2) Keyboard layout switching order differs with order in which keyboard
layouts are installed. If there is more than two keyboard layouts
installed (for example US, RU, UK) then right keyboard shortcut for
change layout (for example Ctrl+Shift) switches layouts in sequential
order (US -> RU -> UK), when left keyboard shortcut (same: Ctrl+Shift) -
it switches layouts in back order (UK -> RU -> US). And it looks like
there is no way to change this very uncomfortable behaviour of
xkeyboard-config.

And looks like there is no way to change this very uncomfortable
behaviour.

3) If try to use some right buttons of keyboard layout switch shortcuts
instead of left, the switching stops at last layout (in my case - in
UA).

First problem is in KXKB and seems it was already fixed.

The second, as says developer of KXKB Andriy Rysin here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=286958#c4, concerns to xkeyboard-
config, although you say the opposite. Let's somehow to understand where
the problem really is, cause it makes the work with text very very
uncomfortable.

The third problem requires the same determination as second.

Possible, but can't be sure.
Is it possible to find a stacktrace of the crash somehow? Otherwise, I don't
see how a developer can work on this.
If its possible to find a stacktrace, please tell me how. I'll take it up.

When using the VESA emulation glxgears works just fine, but the bulk of

Fedora 12 has rpms versioned 7.6.0-8 so I assume it is a git snapshot.

7.6.1-rc2-1ubuntu1).

But it works OK in 16/16 bpp

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc - add -fbbpp 16 as server argument
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
startx

(not sure how to force gdm to do the same)

Mesa-7.10 swrast on Qemu/KVM's emulated 24bit cirrus graphics is still broken.
Looks like this:
http://openqa.opensuse.org/opensuse/permanent/bug/bfo23525.png

but works on vesa driver that has
(II) VESA(0): Creating default Display subsection in Screen section
"Default Screen" for depth/fbbpp 24/24
(==) VESA(0): Depth 24, (==) framebuffer bpp 24
...
(==) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp

and also works on fbdev with 16/16

How confident are you in the patch? Should it go into the 7.11 release?

Hi Brian!

I have done these tests:
* without my patch :
 * qemu + cirrus emulation + glxgears -> failed
 * qemu + vga emulation + glxgears -> working fine
* with my patch
 * qemu + cirrus emulation -> working
 * qemu + vga emulation -> still working fine

So it seems that this patch solves the problem, and does not introduce
another bug.

So I'm confident in this patch ;)

Just noticed this issue still occurred with Mesa-7.11 (even on real Cirrus HW)
Checking the source, I found that the patch from comment 5 was missing.
Applying the patch, fixed glxgears,
but left other programs (e.g. KDE4's khelpcenter and konqueror (both using
KHTML)) with similar bpp corruptions in image rendering, which are not present
with other drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879639] [NEW] Ubuntu does not recognize Intel CPU-integrated HD3000 graphics

2011-11-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a self-built PC with
- an Intel Core i3-2125 processor with CPU-integrated HD3000 graphics,
- an ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 mainboard, and
- Linux Ubuntu 11.10.
I've just moved from Windows to Linux.
Ubuntu system info says:
- Graphics: Unknown
- Graphics Driver: Unknown
- Graphics Experience: Standard
So Ubuntu is not recognizing the Intel CPU-integrated HD3000 graphics, and
therefore the power of HD3000 is most probably not usable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879522] [NEW] FGLRX installed but it seems to be still Vesa in use

2011-11-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello!

I installed fglrx and fglrx-amdccle on a fresh Installation of Oneiric
11.10 after I did all available updates. Drivers were working well
first, but a view days after an update (and i sadly don't know which
package is the problem) I figured out that in the systeminformations it
showed vesa-driver in use and Compiz was not working that fine it used
to. So I tried fglrx-updates but problem is the same. 3D not working
properly and Systeminformation showing VESA.

fglrxinfo shows:
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
OpenGL version string: 4.1.11005 Compatibility Profile Context

So i guess it should be working.
I know at least one guy who is having the same problem - see this thread on
ubuntuforums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1862940

Maybe this is a problem with AMD, but for the reason i used fglrx out of
repositories, i guess bug is locatet on oneiric-packeges.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 896803] [NEW] xorg crashes on first login with compositing enabled

2011-11-27 Thread Rahul
Public bug reported:

Xorg crashes when I logout and login as a different user from KDM for
the first time. I am returned to the login screen with compositing
automatically disabled. The second and further logins work. I have to
manually enable compositing by going into System Settings -> Desktop
Effects.

This has started affecting me only since Oneiric.

For each such crash, I see the following line in kern.log:
