[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873495] Re: LightDM fails to start when installed in OEM mode after nvidia-current or nvidia-current-updates are installed

2011-12-30 Thread Frank Ball
The workaround does not work for me either.
sleep 5 in /etc/init/lightdm.conf still didn't work, but if I put "service
lightdm start" in rc.local that works.
Intel i3-550, geforce GT 430, single monitor, Ubuntu 11.10, nvidia-current
280.13-0ubuntu

This looks like bug 865768.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 822144] Re: Touchpad with integrated click buttons: right button missing, both mouse buttons act as left

2011-12-30 Thread Rafael Belmonte
Hello I have this same issue in current precise pangolin snapshot, in a HP
Pavilion dv6 laptop.
I am not sure this to be an upstream issue because right click is working
perfecty in Debian 6.0 and also in OpenSuse 12.1, both tested with Gnome, but t
is not working in Ubuntu 11.10, nor in current 12.04 snaphot, so this is an
Ubuntu specific bug in my case.
I attach my own logs info.

4) What happens instead is no program goes one page up. PgDown works as
expected. Following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKeyboardDetection
please see attached. **NOTE: Unable to attach gconftool-2 -R

am currently using Xubuntu.

One thing noticed is when pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2 and logging in, PgUp
works as expected but does not work in the Terminal when in Ctrl+Alt+F7.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers

2011-12-30 Thread Jarmo Isotalo
Yes, I have also this issue on Fujitsu E8420 BUT I have managed to get it
working and wanted to publish my solution here.
Im running ubuntu 11.10 and I have installed that additional driver #2, NVIDIA
accelerated graphics driver (post-release updates) (version 173-updates)

So This is what I did to get screen brightness buttons working:

I run "sudo nvidia-xconfig " to generate good xorg.conf file.
then I added this following line to there under device
"Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1""
like this:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
EndSection

And I hava my xorg.conf as an attachment:

** Attachment added: "Working copy of xorg.conf for Fujitsu E8420 with fn
screen brightnes"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41994] Re: closed Laptop Lid to reliably keep Backlight off

2011-12-30 Thread cmcanulty
Using 11.10 I did a kernel patch but it still goes black and you need to
close and reopen led to get screen back bright. Very annoying at our
library as we have 10 laptops running Ubuntu.

If Unity 3D does not support Xinerama, then perhaps unity_support_test

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 894132] Re: unity does not start using xinerama and multi-monitor

2011-12-30 Thread Captain Chaos
@bilalakhtar: soulsource just added his similar experience with AMD, so
I don't think this is specific to NVidia.

I discovered that there is a tool which is supposed to test for Unity 3D
support. I don't know if this is used to decide whether to fire up Unity
3D when you log in, but on my system it incorrectly reports that Unity
3D *is* supported, so that may explain why my system hangs when I try to
log in with the default session. Here is the output of
unity_support_test:

OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8800 GTX/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 280.13

Not software rendered:yes

GL vertex program:yes

this bug has resurfaced after some updates recently. i believe they were

it's frustrating and annoying to have to kill off the launcher 2 or 3
times a day.

this is 10.04 and is supposed to be stable. when will this be addressed?

thanks,
james.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898963] Re: Desktop performance (2d) much worse than expected.

2011-12-30 Thread Newfie
I've not been testing Precise builds for the last few weeks now. I
decided to give today's daily build a try to see how things are going.

Performance is improved dramatically since the last time I tried. While
not perfect, it's definitely usable at this point. Even smooth scrolling
in Firefox isn't extremely choppy.

I noticed that when I first logged in, everything was entirely flawless.
After about 2 minutes, it started lagging like before. The lag is not as
much, but it is still there. I'm unsure what causes this lag. I'm not
doing anything special and I can't seem to reliably reproduce it; it
just happens after under 5 minutes of use no matter what I happen to be
doing. Relogging in doesn't reduce lag.

Hardware configuration is entirely the same. Just thought I'd chime in
with the update, since something's definitely better :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 910072] Re: DELL P790 missing crucial refresh rates for critical resolutions

2011-12-30 Thread Phil. V
The spec sheet for that monitor doesn't seem to show these frequency/resolution
pairings, but they should indeed be possible given the scan ranges its capable
of, assuming its efficiency hasn't dropped significantly with age. I wish I
could confirm this without reproducing it myself, hopefully this gets fixed,
nouveau should be capable of determining safe refresh rates. If you're feeling
up to it, you can specify those modes manually:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=83973
and bit more recent:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/59621/how-to-change-the-monitors-refresh-rate

I've never attempted this myself, so if you run into trouble I'm sure
the folks in #ubuntu on IRC can help you out.
