[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828761] Re: Resume from suspend takes much more time when nvidia-current driver is installed.

2012-01-09 Thread Bolick
Another prove of #67 comment - I switched to Unity 2D and got immediate wake-up
without any rendering issues.
Also I may mention that on another laptop with nVidia GeForce 8400M GS and free
(nouveau) drivers Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity (3D) wakes immediately and without
any issues. So it seems like sort of integration problem between nVidia
restriced drivers and Unity (3D)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828761] Re: Resume from suspend takes much more time when nvidia-current driver is installed.

2012-01-09 Thread Bolick
I'd say that comment #67 makes sense. I disabled Unity plugin in CCSM and got
near to immediate wake-up, but on wake-up I got everything black except active
window and no screen decoration as well.
Attached is a screen-shot of this behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828761] Re: Resume from suspend takes much more time when nvidia-current driver is installed.

2012-01-09 Thread nerdy_kid
Disabling the Unity plugin in ccsm fixes this for me. Sounds like it is
just Unity and not Compiz...

To disable Unity and test suspend:

Search for ccsm in the dash, run the compiz config. Disable the Unity
plugin. Hitto get to a terminal, enter "sudo pm-
suspend" without quotes, give it your password hit enter. Then on
resume, just run "ccsm" from the same terminal and re-enable the Unity
plugin.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899159] Re: [sandybridge-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009004

2012-01-09 Thread Hernando Torque
James, I'm not sure if you are supposed to, but do you get the same
title (same 0x... address) as this bug report if you try to report the
bug with apport?

I successfully reproduced the hangs with the Linux version of the
Unigine Heaven benchmark (http://unigine.com/products/heaven/download/
~233MB, fast torrent download). It immediately threw hangs during the
loading phase at the start screen, but I got a different address in the
bug report:

[sandybridge-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7a02

Also, dmesg just showed

[83035.298706] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...
GPU hung
[83035.298766] [drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_wait_request returns -11
(awaiting 4462766 at 4462765, next 4462767)

in contrast to the messages in my attached "CurrentDmesg.txt".

Attaching the new i915_error_state.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: Dual monitors black out and session freezes, might be linked to switching workspaces

2012-01-09 Thread palewire
Since first encountering this bug, I've limited myself to working on a
single monitor. When I do this, the bug happens much less frequently,
but it still does occur once every couple days. And it seems to happen
when I have a video podcast going in Banshee. Last week I was watching
the CBS Evening News podcast (cool, I know) when it dropped off.

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN:

I should be able to boot up to the login screen.

WHAT HAPPEN:

A box with background white and text in black. I am informe that Ubuntu
can strat only in low-graphic mode. I click on start in low graphic
once.

Then the screen went black and some text appear. the last two line are:
"mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth"
"checking battery stat "

and all stop and I have to reboot.

Even though I checked the two box at the beginning of the install (about
additionnals packages -mp3, nvidia drivers, etc.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875107] Re: Displays won't come out of suspend.

2012-01-09 Thread Jon Smirl
This is did not fix the wakeup from suspend issue. I still have to power
cycle the monitors to recover.

uname -a
Linux terra 3.2.0-030200-generic #201201042035 SMP Thu Jan 5 01:36:31 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I will leave kernel installed and look for lockups. I can not produce
the lockups on demand but I average one a day or so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: Dual monitors black out and session freezes, might be linked to switching workspaces

2012-01-09 Thread strange_cathect
Two additional points:

1. I can reproduce this under Gnome as well as Unity. Although it
happens with more frequency with Unity.

2. I can also echo Palewire's claim that this has happened during
streaming media. While watching an embedded video, for example. Also,
while playing/streaming music on Clementine or Banshee.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992] Re: Primary laptop display not working, external monitor works fine.

2012-01-09 Thread Samuli Seppänen
Running a Lenovo Thinkpad L520 here, too.

Noticed this bug on Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 alpha 1 LiveCD. Also, on Ubuntu
11.10 (amd64) a vanilla 3.2.0 kernel compiled from kernel.org sources
has the exact same symptoms. No amount of twiddling with framebuffer
modules, initrds and such seemed to help. Adding kernel boot option
modeset=0 helped, but only allowed 1024x768 resolution.

I have hand-installed fglrx-updates, and now it's almost ok for me - I
just have the glitches on pop-up tips and ayatana scroll bars, but it's
usable and quite fast. Using that now, let's see.

Jockey (additional hardware) continue to think that no additional driver
is installed. Trying to "activate" it will break everything, and I need
a reboot to have accelerated graphics back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: Dual monitors black out and session freezes, might be linked to switching workspaces

2012-01-09 Thread strange_cathect
Just to add: I have the same problem, with the same crippling effects:
my displays will randomly go into powersave (turn completely black) and
cannot be awakened through the mouse or keyboard input. The only
solution is a hard reboot.

I have a System 76 Mad Dog:
1 GB nVidia GeForce GT430
4 GB - 2 x 2 GB - DDR3 - 1333 MHz
2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2400

Because of my graphics card, one of my monitors is connected through
DVI; the other is connected by HDMI.

I can also echo Palewire that this has had a seemingly positive cause
while playing music (Banshee or Clementine) although at other times it
seems just random.

Bryce: I can say that I have never been switching workspaces when this
occured. However, I do seem to be affected by another bug when using
Unity that clicking the Workspace Switcher makes my screens temporarily
go black.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813809] Re: Hybrid Graphics with Intel+fglrx is not supported

I don't think my problem has any solutions except for waiting for AMD to
release a fglrx that supports this laptop. FGLRX looks like it's
working fine, it just claims to not support my hardware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899159] Re: [sandybridge-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009004

2012-01-09 Thread Hernando Torque
Standard Wine from Precise repos, no changes to the config or
installations via winetricks.

The game in question is Ski Challenge 2012
(http://www.skichallenge.at/en/download - 80MB download plus 80MB auto-update
:-/).
It happens more frequent when I crank up the video settings. Not playing other
DirectX games, so I cannot comment on that. I tried to reproduce it with the
old 3DMark2001 benchmark but w/o luck, the Unigine benchmarks for Windows
wouldn't run in Wine. A smaller program triggering the hangs would be helpful I
guess.
