[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946677] [NEW] UMS dri support missing for r200
Public bug reported: Hi, I'm currently testing 12.04 on my PowerPC iBook. It is reverting to the software rasterizer. Here is the relevant bit of the xorg log: [29.603] (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable [29.603] drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 [29.603] drmOpenDevice: open result is 12, (OK) [29.603] drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci::00:10.0 [29.603] drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 [29.604] drmOpenDevice: open result is 12, (OK) [29.604] drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 12 [29.604] drmOpenByBusid: Interface 1.4 failed, trying 1.1 [29.604] drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports pci::00:10.0 [29.616] (EE) AIGLX error: r200 does not export required DRI extension [29.616] (EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering [29.622] (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized swrast [29.622] (II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0 I think the important bit is "error: r200 does not export required DRI extension". Am I correct in thinking that only KMS is now supported by libgl1-mesa-dri? If so this is a big problem for PowerPC. Kernel Mode Setting with radeon cards and PowerPC is still very shakey. I can only get my iBook to not crash under KMS using the radeon.agpmode=-1 parameter (i.e. forcing PCI mode). Also, there is no suspend under KMS with PowerPC. Would it be possible to build back in Userspace Mode Setting support for r200 cards? Thanks! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946589] [NEW] Xorg crashes in Precise with Dual Screens
Public bug reported: After a fresh install of 12.04 beta 1 on my system, running an AMD Radeon HD 6950 with dual 1920x1280 displays, by default the video output was set to mirror displays. When changing the configuration settings in the 'Displays" option in the system settings, Unchecking the mirror displays box would almost always result in a glitchyness and often freezing. When trying to rearrange displays in the "displays" menu it would ALWAYS result in my desktop freezing and having to force a reboot. After 6-7 attempts at trying to get my displays configured properly, they now have the proper orientation and settings, but it is very fragile. (for proper orientation I had to physically swith the DVI connections on my video output) If I try to use the Dash on the second screen, 4/5 times it will glitch, and my screens will start flashing white until the desktop is completely unusable, and I must force reboot. I would also like to note that I tried to do an upgrade from my 11.10 desktop, but was immediately met with freezing when trying to log into my desktop. I believe it was due to my having my orientation settings set to monitor 2 on the left and monitor 1 on the right. These settings seem to always crash the 12.04 desktop, and I believe the settings being transfered from 11.10 lead to constant freezes when trying to log into 12.04 desktop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946417] [NEW] "Cando" Touchscreen buggy since Precise
Public bug reported: In the beta-1 of Precise, the "Cando" touchscreen of my Acer 1825PTZ does not work anymore. After the first few successful "clicks" on the touchscreen, new "clicks" are not registered anymore. I can still move the cursor via the touchscreen, however. When I switch over to the mouse in this state, it also stops registering clicks after a few of them. The mouse can still move the cursor, just as the touchscreen. Sometimes, the pointer will jump to an entirely different position, when I click a button on the mouse while the touchscreen is bugged out. If I do not use the touchscreen at all, and only the mouse, this behaviour does not seem to trigger. My touchscreen worked fine with Oneiric, so this a regression. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 932781] Re: [x-updates] Nvidia 295.20 regression - Gnome Shell becomes crashy
I too had a very unstable lucid 10.04.4LTS system since the upgrade of the Nvidia drivers to 295.20 from the X-Update PPA. My issues included: 1. Occasional system hangs, with frozen screen with the mouse movement still responding. 2. GL Screensaver activating = occasional hang 3. Compiz desktop effects + maximizing a window = occasional screen freeze! 4. Full screen video playback (especially with HD content .mkv files) = occasional screen freeze! 5. Clean shutdown stopped. System would shutdown, with blank screen and system fan running. Hard power off (holding power button down) was the only way to turn the laptop off. I then downgraded my Nvidia drivers to 280.13 (luckily was still in the repos) and "locked" the packages. Now my system is back to it's usual stable self. No more random screen freezes and more importantly, system now shuts down cleanly (no more holding the power button until full power off). My system is: Dell XPS M1530 Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS (2.6.32-39-generic) Let me know if you require any additional information. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/932781 Title: [x-updates] Nvidia 295.20 regression - Gnome Shell becomes crashy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/932781/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946234] [NEW] System unstable with nvidia version 295.20 on Quadro NVS 130M
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release:12.04 Since about 6 weeks I run Kubuntu 12.04 on this Tecra-S5 laptop and I experience significant instability of the system with the combination of Quadro NVS 130M video card and NVIDIA driver version 290.20. Especially starting a second (external) monitor is difficult and will after some hours lock the system. But even on the default screen starting up Firefox or Konsole will hang the system for several seconds or even lock it up hard. In those cases only the Magic Keys will allow a shut down. Since a few days this same driver is available in Kubuntu 11.10 and causing the same issues, reverting to driver 280.13 solves the problem but this driver is not available for Kubuntu 12.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946178] [NEW] GPU fan always at 100%, can not change the thermal settings
Public bug reported: Hello, since "Precise Pangolin" upgrade, my GeForce 8800 GT fan is always at 100%, it's very noisy!!! On Oneiric I put this lines in xorg.conf: Option "Coolbits" "4" to enable thermal settings and control the fan. It works great until I upgraded to 12.04: at Xorg start, fan is at maximum speed. If I go to nvidia sttings to change the fan speed, my change are not kept when I click on "Apply": http://youtu.be/zuU1QNgUt6E If I try to change the fan speed in command line: # nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1 Attribute 'GPUFanControlState' (tipingouin-home:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 1. # nvidia-settings -a [fan:0]/GPUCurrentFanSpeed=40 Attribute 'GPUCurrentFanSpeed' (tipingouin-home:0[fan:0]) assigned value 40. nothing happened. Thanks for your help. LGDN.
