[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993827] Re: Logitech Wireless keyboard has bad layout on login screen

2012-05-08 Thread v66r
Same here. Normally using german neo2 layout but "system wide" keyboard setting
is US. When changing explicitely to neo2 within my X session in settings >
keyboard settings, not using the system wide setting, it is fine there (neo 2).
But on the login screen it is always US layout. On textmode terminals the
keymap is always ok.
With regular (wired) keyboard the layout is correct everywhere, seems to affect
logitech(only?) wireless keyboards.

2012-05-08 Thread arpanaut
I enabled proposed repository and installed 295.49-0ubuntu0.1
And with the update to Unity 5.12-0ubuntu1
Everything seems to be running well, except maybe a little laginess
12.04 64bit Hope this solves it for others too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-08 Thread Brendan Brigham
I'm also having a similar complete freeze, no mouse movement. Fresh
install 12.04 32bit is freezing every so often. Was watching a video
earlier, noticed the curser was no longer moving for me then the video
started shuddering. Was typing an email a few minutes ago when it froze
again. I think this has happened like 5 or 6 times now. I have to hold
the power button to shut it down, then when it starts again it stops at
the colored screen but has a black section across it with colored lines
around the edges of the black, press the reset button and it will boot
to the grub boot menu. From there it starts ok but long boot time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985326] Re: Pen-in on non-core tablet -> Xorg segfault

2012-05-08 Thread Ben A
FYI, the Inkscape problem that I was troubleshooting has already been
pinned down somewhat (it had more to do with scrollbars!) so this bug
isn't really a blocker anymore. I can freely use my digitizer if it's a
core device, and I don't have a reason to make it non-core anymore. It's
up to you if that changes the priority.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 611886] Re: [i965gm] maximized windows don't get redrawn

2012-05-08 Thread Chauncellor
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. Compiz, in particular, is
in heavy development and this bug may have been fixed in the newest
version of Ubuntu (12.04) if not on the current 11.10 release. If you
are able, it would be of great help if you could confirm if the bug
still exists.

Thank you for your help and patience.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-05-08 Thread markb
Here's my experience with a nvidia 8600GT card on ubuntu 12.04. All previous
ubuntu releases have worked fine with with proprietary driver over many years.
Installed clean 12.04 and using gnome-shell + gnome3 team ppa, nvidia driver
295.40 did a segmentation fault after a hour or so mainly just using terminals
and chrome. Installed v295.49 direct from nvidia web site. Still seg faulted
after a couple of hours. Installed v302.07 direct from nvidia web site, seg
faulted after a few more hours. I have listed the xorg log seg faults
[url=http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11904367&postcount=8]here[/url] and
[url=http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11907292&postcount=10]here[/url].
Then added xorg-edgers ppa which includes v302.07 plus other updated xorg
stuff, still get seg fault after a few hours.

Removed nvidia driver and fell back to nouveau (still from latest xorg-
edgers) and Unity 3D plus gnome-shell working beautifully. Note also
that virtual consoles (alt+F1->f6) work with nouveau but just gave black
screen on all nvidia versions with 12.04.

Note that the Settings/Additional Drivers dialog says that a user MUST
install nvidia proprietary drivers before Unity 3D will work, to get
desktop effects, etc. Clearly this is not true anymore. Nouveau is
working without compromise for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty

2012-05-08 Thread Dr. Clue
Pretty much a (me too) post here.

As part of Logitech's warranty service they sent out this really nice
new Model H800 headset to replace an older model in ill health.

Tried it on both of my Ubuntu 12.04 machines and indeed it crashes.

There is one other machine here that is still at Ubuntu 11.10 and for that
older version the headphones work great.

Hopefully the fix will just show up in the updates. Just glad to
see it's being worked on ;)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993333] Re: [Sandybridge] Xorg freeze

2012-05-08 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
I have tried installing 2.19.0 from
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates but I still get
these same hangs, so I believe the root of the cause lies somewhere in
the kernel. Or it just was not solved in this version. I noticed that
these bugs usually occur after the machine is resumed from S3 and is up
and running for quite some time. If it's freshly booted, it seems to be
running fine as far as this particular bug is concerned.

I'm attaching another Xorg log going along with another instance of:

kernel: [42186.657190] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... GPU hung
kernel: [42186.657262] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996821] [NEW] vmmouse 12.8 behaves erratically in when running as a VMware guest

2012-05-08 Thread Johann MacDonagh
Public bug reported:

The default version of the xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse package in Ubuntu
12.04 is 1:12.8.0-1. When Ubuntu 12.04 is installed as a guest in VMware
Workstation (tested on 8.0.3) or VMware Player (tested on 4.0.3), the
mouse behaves rather erratically. For example, if you *slowly* move the
mouse down 1 pixel, the mouse will actually move several pixels down,
then sometimes a pixel or two to the right, then sometimes back up. The
end result is a very un-smooth user experience. This is very visible by
opening a new un-maximized window and dragging it slowly across the
screen. Rather than it being a smooth movement, the window will jerk
around slightly. This causes huge issues when navigating menus.
Sometimes the guest will think the mouse has moved off a menu.

I am running VMware Workstation 8.0.3 on a Windows 7 x64 host,
installing the standard Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 desktop version.

---
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu 12.04 as a new guest operating system inside either VMware
Workstation 8 or VMware Player.
2. Once installed and logged in, run xev in a terminal.
3. Move the mouse slowly but smoothly downward along the Event Tester window
while monitoring the console output.

What should happen:
1. The x,y coordinates reported after the "time" field should increment /
decrement smoothly. For example, is moving the mouse downward in the Event
Tester, the x coordinate should stay relatively stable (a change +- 1 is
acceptable), while the y coordinate should increase proportional to the speed
that the mouse is moving.

What actually happens:
1. The x coordinate will change +- 3 or so pixels, even though no horizontal
movement is occuring.
2. The y coordinate will not increase linearly. For example, if moving the
mouse downward starting with a y coordinate of 60, the next few events might
show the y coordinate as 61, 62, 63, 64, 60, 63, 67, etc...

I have confirmed this is an issue with vmmouse 12.8 by rebuilding the
12.7 package from the Ubuntu 11.10 source repo, removing the 12.8
package, and installing the newly build 12.7 package. After this has
occured, the mouse moves smoothly, and the events reported by xev make
much more sense. The x coordinate does not change while moving the mouse
straight down, and the y coordinate increases linearly without skipping
back up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940924] Re: Keyboard Layout "German (qwerty)" missing since 12.04

2012-05-08 Thread Shake
Workaround:

Add this to the bottom of "/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de"

partial alphanumeric_keys
xkb_symbols "qwerty" {
include "de(basic)"

name[Group1]="German (qwerty)";

//key  { [  y,  Y
] };
//key  { [  z,  Z, zcaron,
 Zcaron ] };
key { [ y, Y
  ] };
key { [ z, Z, zcaron,
Zcaron ] };
};

Add the new keyboard to:
/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev.xml
and
/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.xml

After:

de

de
German

  ger

[...]

Add this:

qwerty
German (qwerty)

Reboot is necessary - since I don't know which services to restart

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 994878] Re: glxgears very slow

2012-05-08 Thread Tormod Volden
It is an upstream regression, although a calculated one. A fix for
Ubuntu would be to have these DRI1 drivers available in the standard
repos (universe if that still exists?).

** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- glxgears very slow
+ glxgears very slow (no DRI1 drivers anymore)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990712] Re: Random xorg crashes

2012-05-08 Thread Raceman
I have the same problem, and see this bug is still waiting for a full
backtrace. When I'm using the computer remotly by SSH (commandline) everything
is working fine.
When I am using X (unity/compiz or gnome), the desktop crashes randomly when I
am using programs, browsing, etc. most of the times within 5 till 30 minutes.
When I don't hit the computer, there is no crash.
I read the http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing documentation, but don't
understand what to do.

sudo service apport start force_start=1
is already running

/var/log/Xorg.0.log is not showing any error/warnings , also the
timestap of the file is before the crash, so no new information about
the crash.

files at /var/log/gdm/ only have timestamps in year 2011

Hope you can give extra information in how to collect the information
and post it here. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996733] [NEW] [SNB] Lockup after resuming from S3 and unlocking the screen

2012-05-08 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Public bug reported:

I just resumed my laptop from S3 and entered my password in the unlock
screen dialog. After that a black screen showed up with just a clock in
the top center area and a lock icon in the upper right corner of the
screen shown. I ctrl-alt-f1'ed to TTY1 and then ctrl-alt-f7'ed to X. One
of my workspaces showed up with apps running as it should be. However,
no input was working in X, no app responded to mouse clicks or key
presses.

P. S. It should be noted that I'm using xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.19.0
taken from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates but
since I have already bumped into this or at least very similar bug in
the past, I belive it's not related to the intel driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976383] Re: Periodic lockups or crashes

2012-05-08 Thread Matthew General
I've since switched back to Arch Linux, but I ran into the same problem.
It is a problem with the nvidia drivers. What you can do is install
nouveau drivers and see if that helps. This may lead you on the right
path http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/UbuntuPackages

It is unfortunate that this driver made it into 12.04 with such a
serious problem. You might want to try downgrading to the 11.10 driver
and see if that does any good. But I imagine that it might be dependency
hell.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949641] Re: Installing both fglrx and fglrx-updates results in: error exit status 1 -"/etc/init.d/atieventsd exists during rc.d purge"

2012-05-08 Thread jasownwyz98
Ok, I installed "fglrx" and "fglrx-amdcccle" via Jockey aka "Additional
Hardware GUI app".

Everything seems to be working ok.

Packages in the Ubuntu 12.04 repo ( 2012-05-08 ):

fglrx version: 2:8.960-0ubuntu1 size: 118 MB

fglrx-updates: version: 2:8.960-0ubuntu1 size: 118 MB

fglrx-amdcccle: version: 2:8.960-0ubuntu1 size: 11.5 MB

fglrx-amdcccle-updates: version: 2:8.960-0ubuntu1 size: 11.5 MB

So it looks like "fglrx" and "fglrx-updates" are the same thing.

I am wondering if the new Intel drivers (2.19; in Ubuntu 12.04 are 2.17)
would improve the situation?

The PPA from the Ubuntu-X team (
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates ) contains
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1

Maybe someone wants to give it a shot... (but please be sure you know
how to purge a PPA from the terminal in case sth goes wrong ;-) )

Bug description:
This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a
black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse
moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix
it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has
password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen
display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The
mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the
display is frozen solid. Killing the X session is the only workaround.

BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before
suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to
recover is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40 driver is extremely slow

2012-05-08 Thread rmcd
I was waiting for an update before reporting that I was affected. I have
installed 295.49 and it has not fixed my problem. The same issue exists
with 259.33 and 259.40. This is new behavior in 12.04.

I have a G96 [GeForce 9500 GT] (from lshw)

When I first boot up, video is fast. After a period of time, certain
applications become very slow, taking seconds to do what had previously
been instantaneous. A graph using the rgl package in R, for example,
comes up as a grey box for several seconds, and resizing the box takes
seconds. When I first boot, all of this is instantaneous.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: resume from suspend leaves me with black screen and a cursor

2012-05-08 Thread sanmiguel9
I am wondering if the new Intel drivers (2.19; in Ubuntu 12.04 are 2.17)
would improve the situation?

The PPA from the Ubuntu-X team (
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates ) contains
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1

Maybe someone wants to give it a shot... (but please be sure you know
how to purge a PPA from the terminal in case sth goes wrong ;-) )

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995525] Re: error "apport-gpu-error-intel.py"

2012-05-08 Thread Bill Barmettler
I'm getting this same error message every time I start a Dell GX520 that
I dual-booted this morning. True dual-boot, not wubi. And a clean
install, vs. upgrade. The GX520 came with a Radeon 9250 Pro low-profile
card. The error apparently has something to do with the intel gpu. I
tried pulling the Radeon and re-booting. Same problem.

Tried resetting video settings in BIOS but that didn't help either.
There are two choices in the Dell BIOS. Auto & onboard/PEG. Auto is
supposed to detect automagically. Onboard/PEG will try to use onboard
unless a discrete card is detected. I switched from Auto to onboard
with the Radeon still in place and the monitor went black on next
reboot.

Pulled the Radeon, plugged into the onboard video, and reset BIOS to
Auto. Got the screen back.

Logged out of Unity 3D and restarted the Dell. Restarting in 2D; same
error.

So, I get this error no matter what. Using the Radeon, using onboard
intel video, Unity 3D, & 2D.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995715] Re: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution if a Logitech Unifying Receiver is plugged in

2012-05-08 Thread Montblanc
Okay, it seems I made some progress. I was right to think the problem
was in the keyboard. I tried these steps:

1) Started the machine with a USB keyboard plugged in: KDM detects the correct
locale.
2) Started the machine with both USB keyboard and Logitech K800: KDM is
detecting the correct locale for BOTH keyboards.
3) Started the machine with Logitech K800 plugged in: wrong locale again.

So the problem seems to be in keyboards locale detection using the
Logitech Unifying Receiver.

I could also reproduce the problem:

1) Installed Oneiric on a new partition with a USB keyboard plugged in. (RIGHT
LOCALE)
2) Unplugged the USB keyboard and plugged the Logitech Unifying Receiver.
(RIGHT LOCALE)
3) Rebooted to KDM. (RIGHT LOCALE)
4) Upgraded to Precise and rebooted to KDM. (WRONG LOCALE)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996592] [NEW] Regression: Touchpad became unusble after upgrade to Precise

2012-05-08 Thread Andreas Noteng
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Oneiric to Precise, the touchpad became unusable.
To make sure this wasn't caused by something beyond Ubuntu's controll, I
also tried a fresh install. The mouse poiner hardly moves at all. Scroll
does not work, but sometimes trying to move the pointer will scroll
instead. While typing this, the mouse pointer stopped reacting at all,
but started to slowly drift downwards towards the bottom of the screen.
If I move the pointr using an USB-mouse, it will immediately drift down
again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash

2012-05-08 Thread Eugene Antimirov
Pelle,

I had the same problem with my Quadro FX 570, Xorg just could not stay
alive for more that 40 minutes, while my home PC with 9600GT runs well.
Then I uninstalled Nvidia drivers, installed Nouveau and there has not
been any problem since. So for now I would call it an unofficial
workaround.

am doing.

Is there something I need to do to close this bug, or mark it as solved?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-08 Thread Johan Lejonborn
This bug seems to affect me as well. Ubuntu 12.04 64bit, Nvidia 295.40.

Screen freezes and the cursor stops moving. Also experienced a black screen
followed by a forced reebot.
Other operating systems on the computer works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move

2012-05-08 Thread Christophe
I think this could help. The bug just appeared again as I was within a
gnome classic (WITH effects) with my ubuntu 12.04 64 bits.

So it looks like it's really a issue of compiz and not really a bug in
unity.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash

2012-05-08 Thread Pelle ten Cate
I worked around this entire issue by uninstalling all nvidia drivers,
and installing the nouveau driver. To my surprise, it supports dual
monitors on my Quadro FX 570. While the accellerated animations are
performing fabulous, Chromium won't render WebGL 3D (tells me that my
card doesn't support it), whereas Firefox gives me approximately 0.5
FPS, and looks to be on software rendering. :-)

I am not using this box for any 3D activities whatsoever, so I am happy
for the moment. If I can find some time. As far as I know, all versions
listed there are all versions installed using the package manager. Could
you - just for the sake of completeness - try to figure out what version
you are currently using? (i.e. the one that allegedly solved your problem?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move

2012-05-08 Thread Christophe
I have the same problem.

I use a freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits, and when I log under
unity (3d) the GUI freezes after some time randomly. It can be when I
surf the web with firefox or when I read a pdf file in evince. The mouse
still moves on the screen, but nothing happens when I click somewhere.
The system goes on working, for example, the music in rythmbox does not
stop. All I can do is to Ctrl-Alt-F1 and get a console.

I think the problem is due to compiz, as no problem occurs when I log
under unity2d.

My config: Dell E520, graphics : Radeon X1300 with the radeon free
driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move

2012-05-08 Thread Id2ndR
It may be related to Thunderbird when it received a new mail, but only
sometime. Indeed I'm able to get a failsafe desktop when unity/compiz
freeze by using unity-2d/metacity, and then I notice that Thunderbird
window that was minimized cannot display it content (unity-2d show a
dark window). I've noticed that twice so far, so I'm still not sure but
it may help.

To get back on unity-2d/metacity do the following things:
Ctrl-Alt-F1
[wait until it switch; that can take about 30 seconds]
killall -9 compiz
DISPLAY=0:0 metacity --replace &
DISPLAY=0:0 unity-2d-panel &
DISPLAY=0:0 unity-2d-shell &
killall -9 compiz
Ctrl-Alt-F7

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-08 Thread Christophe
I have the same problem.

I use a freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04, and when I log under unity (3d)
the GUI freezes after some time randomly. It can be when I surf the web
with firefox or when I read a pdf file in evince. The mouse still moves
on the screen, but nothing happens when I click somewhere. The system
goes on working, for example, the music in rythmbox does not hang.

I think the problem is due to compiz, as no problem occurs when I log
under unity2d.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696190] Re: Intel Drivers for GMA 3150 only supports OpenGL 1.4 instead of 2.0

2012-05-08 Thread Juha-Pekka Jokela
> I've checked these options but the FPS is still about 60 :(

Sounds good. That's probably your screen refresh rate, and I can see no
benefit in going above that.

If you for some reason want to draw frames faster (if you are f.ex.
debugging a problem, that only occurs on really high framerates, f.ex.
on people with badly configured refresh settings), see the Performance
tab, and try different values for "Synchronization with vertical refresh
(swap intervals)"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 994835] Re: Xinerama = 1, theme bug

2012-05-08 Thread Bjørn Danielsen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973419 ***

I am having the same problem. I've been using 11.04 until now, since it
supported my three monitor setup (with 2 nvidia cards).

Hopeful that multi monitor configurations had been fixed in 12.04 I took
the chance and upgraded. Unfortunately, the only way I can get the three
monitors to work simultaneously is using the nvidia proprietary driver
and xinerama. (With 11.04 it worked with separate X screens, but that
failes in 11.10 and 12.04).

With Xinerama, the theme is not applied to all the windows - like in the
image linked in the bug description - and of course compiz is out of the
question but that's another story...

My xorg.conf is attached in case that helps...
