[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993827] Re: Logitech Wireless keyboard has bad layout on login screen
Same here. Normally using german neo2 layout but "system wide" keyboard setting is US. When changing explicitely to neo2 within my X session in settings > keyboard settings, not using the system wide setting, it is fine there (neo 2). But on the login screen it is always US layout. On textmode terminals the keymap is always ok. With regular (wired) keyboard the layout is correct everywhere, seems to affect logitech(only?) wireless keyboards. I'm also having a similar complete freeze, no mouse movement. Fresh install 12.04 32bit is freezing every so often. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver
Here's my experience with a nvidia 8600GT card on ubuntu 12.04. All previous ubuntu releases have worked fine with with proprietary driver over many years. Installed clean 12.04 and using gnome-shell + gnome3 team ppa, nvidia driver 295.40 did a segmentation fault after a hour or so mainly just using terminals and chrome. Installed v295.49 direct from nvidia web site. Still seg faulted after a couple of hours. Installed v302.07 direct from nvidia web site, seg faulted after a few more hours. I have listed the xorg log seg faults [url=http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11904367&postcount=8]here[/url] and [url=http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11907292&postcount=10]here[/url]. Then added xorg-edgers ppa which includes v302.07 plus other updated xorg stuff, still get seg fault after a few hours. Removed nvidia driver and fell back to nouveau (still from latest xorg- edgers) and Unity 3D plus gnome-shell working beautifully. Note also that virtual consoles (alt+F1->f6) work with nouveau but just gave black screen on all nvidia versions with 12.04. Note that the Settings/Additional Drivers dialog says that a user MUST install nvidia proprietary drivers before Unity 3D will work, to get desktop effects, etc. Clearly this is not true anymore. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996821] [NEW] vmmouse 12.8 behaves erratically in when running as a VMware guest
Public bug reported: The default version of the xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse package in Ubuntu 12.04 is 1:12.8.0-1. When Ubuntu 12.04 is installed as a guest in VMware Workstation (tested on 8.0.3) or VMware Player (tested on 4.0.3), the mouse behaves rather erratically. For example, if you *slowly* move the mouse down 1 pixel, the mouse will actually move several pixels down, then sometimes a pixel or two to the right, then sometimes back up. The end result is a very un-smooth user experience. This is very visible by opening a new un-maximized window and dragging it slowly across the screen. Rather than it being a smooth movement, the window will jerk around slightly. This causes huge issues when navigating menus. Sometimes the guest will think the mouse has moved off a menu. I am running VMware Workstation 8.0.3 on a Windows 7 x64 host, installing the standard Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 desktop version. --- Steps to reproduce: 1. Install Ubuntu 12.04 as a new guest operating system inside either VMware Workstation 8 or VMware Player. 2. Once installed and logged in, run xev in a terminal. 3. Move the mouse slowly but smoothly downward along the Event Tester window while monitoring the console output. What should happen: 1. The x,y coordinates reported after the "time" field should increment / decrement smoothly. For example, is moving the mouse downward in the Event Tester, the x coordinate should stay relatively stable (a change +- 1 is acceptable), while the y coordinate should increase proportional to the speed that the mouse is moving. What actually happens: 1. The x coordinate will change +- 3 or so pixels, even though no horizontal movement is occuring. 2. The y coordinate will not increase linearly. For example, if moving the mouse downward starting with a y coordinate of 60, the next few events might show the y coordinate as 61, 62, 63, 64, 60, 63, 67, etc... I have confirmed this is an issue with vmmouse 12.8 by rebuilding the 12.7 package from the Ubuntu 11.10 source repo, removing the 12.8 package, and installing the newly build 12.7 package. After this has occured, the mouse moves smoothly, and the events reported by xev make much more sense. The x coordinate does not change while moving the mouse straight down, and the y coordinate increases linearly without skipping back up. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: vmmouse -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/996821 Title: vmmouse 12.8 behaves erratically in when running as a VMware guest To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse/+bug/996821/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I have the same problem, and see this bug is still waiting for a full backtrace. When I'm using the computer remotly by SSH (commandline) everything is working fine. When I am using X (unity/compiz or gnome), the desktop crashes randomly when I am using programs, browsing, etc. most of the times within 5 till 30 minutes. When I don't hit the computer, there is no crash. I read the http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing documentation, but don't understand what to do. sudo service apport start force_start=1 is already running /var/log/Xorg.0.log is not showing any error/warnings , also the timestap of the file is before the crash, so no new information about the crash. files at /var/log/gdm/ only have timestamps in year 2011 Hope you can give extra information in how to collect the information and post it here. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996733] [NEW] [SNB] Lockup after resuming from S3 and unlocking the screen
Public bug reported: I just resumed my laptop from S3 and entered my password in the unlock screen dialog. After that a black screen showed up with just a clock in the top center area and a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen shown. I ctrl-alt-f1'ed to TTY1 and then ctrl-alt-f7'ed to X. One of my workspaces showed up with apps running as it should be. However, no input was working in X, no app responded to mouse clicks or key presses. P. S. It should be noted that I'm using xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.19.0 taken from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates but since I have already bumped into this or at least very similar bug in the past, I belive it's not related to the intel driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976383] Re: Periodic lockups or crashes
I've since switched back to Arch Linux, but I ran into the same problem. It is a problem with the nvidia drivers. What you can do is install nouveau drivers and see if that helps. This may lead you on the right path http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/UbuntuPackages It is unfortunate that this driver made it into 12.04 with such a serious problem. You might want to try downgrading to the 11.10 driver and see if that does any good. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. Killing the X session is the only workaround. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995525] Re: error "apport-gpu-error-intel.py"
I'm getting this same error message every time I start a Dell GX520 that I dual-booted this morning. True dual-boot, not wubi. And a clean install, vs. upgrade. The GX520 came with a Radeon 9250 Pro low-profile card. The error apparently has something to do with the intel gpu. I tried pulling the Radeon and re-booting. Same problem. Tried resetting video settings in BIOS but that didn't help either. There are two choices in the Dell BIOS. Auto & onboard/PEG. Auto is supposed to detect automagically. Onboard/PEG will try to use onboard unless a discrete card is detected. I switched from Auto to onboard with the Radeon still in place and the monitor went black on next reboot. Pulled the Radeon, plugged into the onboard video, and reset BIOS to Auto. Got the screen back. Logged out of Unity 3D and restarted the Dell. Restarting in 2D; same error. I tried these steps: 1) Started the machine with a USB keyboard plugged in: KDM detects the correct locale. 2) Started the machine with both USB keyboard and Logitech K800: KDM is detecting the correct locale for BOTH keyboards. 3) Started the machine with Logitech K800 plugged in: wrong locale again. So the problem seems to be in keyboards locale detection using the Logitech Unifying Receiver. I could also reproduce the problem: 1) Installed Oneiric on a new partition with a USB keyboard plugged in. (RIGHT LOCALE) 2) Unplugged the USB keyboard and plugged the Logitech Unifying Receiver. (RIGHT LOCALE) 3) Rebooted to KDM. (RIGHT LOCALE) 4) Upgraded to Precise and rebooted to KDM. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996592] [NEW] Regression: Touchpad became unusble after upgrade to Precise
Public bug reported: After upgrading from Oneiric to Precise, the touchpad became unusable. To make sure this wasn't caused by something beyond Ubuntu's controll, I also tried a fresh install. The mouse poiner hardly moves at all. Scroll does not work, but sometimes trying to move the pointer will scroll instead. While typing this, the mouse pointer stopped reacting at all, but started to slowly drift downwards towards the bottom of the screen. If I move the pointr using an USB-mouse, it will immediately drift down again. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash
I worked around this entire issue by uninstalling all nvidia drivers, and installing the nouveau driver. To my surprise, it supports dual monitors on my Quadro FX 570. While the accellerated animations are performing fabulous, Chromium won't render WebGL 3D (tells me that my card doesn't support it), whereas Firefox gives me approximately 0.5 FPS, and looks to be on software rendering. :-) I am not using this box for any 3D activities whatsoever, so I am happy for the moment. If I can find some time. As far as I know, all versions listed there are all versions installed using the package manager. Could you - just for the sake of completeness - try to figure out what version you are currently using? (i.e. the one that allegedly solved your problem?) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move
I have the same problem. I use a freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits, and when I log under unity (3d) the GUI freezes after some time randomly. It can be when I surf the web with firefox or when I read a pdf file in evince. The mouse still moves on the screen, but nothing happens when I click somewhere. The system goes on working, for example, the music in rythmbox does not stop. All I can do is to Ctrl-Alt-F1 and get a console. I think the problem is due to compiz, as no problem occurs when I log under unity2d. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move
It may be related to Thunderbird when it received a new mail, but only sometime. Indeed I'm able to get a failsafe desktop when unity/compiz freeze by using unity-2d/metacity, and then I notice that Thunderbird window that was minimized cannot display it content (unity-2d show a dark window). I've noticed that twice so far, so I'm still not sure but it may help. To get back on unity-2d/metacity do the following things: Ctrl-Alt-F1 [wait until it switch; that can take about 30 seconds] [login] killall -9 compiz DISPLAY=0:0 metacity --replace & DISPLAY=0:0 unity-2d-panel & DISPLAY=0:0 unity-2d-shell & killall -9 compiz Ctrl-Alt-F7 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987498 Title: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/987498/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973419 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973419 I am having the same problem. I've been using 11.04 until now, since it supported my three monitor setup (with 2 nvidia cards). Hopeful that multi monitor configurations had been fixed in 12.04 I took the chance and upgraded. Unfortunately, the only way I can get the three monitors to work simultaneously is using the nvidia proprietary driver and xinerama. (With 11.04 it worked with separate X screens, but that failes in 11.10 and 12.04). With Xinerama, the theme is not applied to all the windows - like in the image linked in the bug description - and of course compiz is out of the question but that's another story...
