[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001842] [NEW] No Audio from HDMI After Switching Monitor Off / On

2012-06-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After the 12.04 Update my HDMI audio stops working anytime I turn off or on,
my 2nd monitor(plasma TV)
System Settings>Sound - Output
HDMI audio disappears from the list when monitor is turned off or on and does
not reappear.

see http://askubuntu.com/questions/133575/hdmi-audio-stops-after-tv-
turned-off/139265#139265

I'm guessing it has something to do with sink detection and ATI video

The only info I've found is after running pactl list
Partial copy

Sink #0

I checked before and after. The only difference is
hdmi-output-0: HDMI / DisplayPort (priority: 5900, not available)

Where "not available" is the only change I found.
Removing cable from HDMI socket and plugging in again, restores audio.
Logging in and out again restores audio.

 Status: Confirmed

Running XFCE installed from scratch (as Xubuntu) and so far no freezes.
No other solutions (new kernels, upgrading xorg, using 2D vs 3D) above
worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 989626] Re: Danish Dvorak keyboard layout missing tilde

2012-06-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

- Danish Dvorak keyboard layout is just a copy of Norwegian Dvorak created
- by including the xkb definition for Norwegian Dvorak in the Danish
- Dvorak section. Apparently Norwegian Dvorak was changed in 12.04 to no
- longer have the tilde key in the same place. It was correctly placed in
- 11.10. This is easily fixed by adding the AD12-key from Norwegian Dvorak
- in 11.10 to the right section in Danish Dvorak in 12.04. This change
- goes into /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/dk. I have attached a patch.
+ [Impact]
+ Danish Dvorak keyboard layout is just a copy of Norwegian Dvorak created by

Danish Dvorak in 12.04. This change goes into /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/dk. I
have attached a patch.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Set the Danish Dvorak keyboard layout
+ 2. Hit the tilde key (between the ' key and the return key on danish
keyboards, or the ] key on us keyboards)
+ 3. Hit the tilde key + shift
+ Broken Behavior:
+ Fixed Behavior: ~ ^
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The patch only changes the Danish Dvorak keyboard layout for the AC12, so the
scope of regression risk is limited to that key for those users.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 953477] Re: "Czech (qwerty)" layout has " instead of ß in the 4th level

2012-06-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

- In precise, a new version of /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/cz appears. The

- definition of "Czech" (the base layout). Thus, there is no ß in that
- lazout, making it unusable for writing german texts. Workaround is to
- change that key back to include "ssharp":

+ In precise, a new version of /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/cz appears. The
alternative "Czech (qwerty)" layout redefines key, overriding the
definition of "Czech" (the base layout). Thus, there is no ß in that layout,
making it unusable for writing German texts.

Not sure if this is a good place to discuss it, but the 3rd level of the
  czech layout contains all characters needed to write German texts;
omission of ß in favor of " (which is in the 2nd level of AC10 already
  by standard) defeats that purpose.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Workaround is to change that key back to include "ssharp":

+ [Test Case]
+ 1. In keyboard layout settings, set Czech (qwerty) layout
+ 2. Hold the fourth level key (Shift+Windows or however you've configured it)
+ 3. Hit the section key (§, 2 keys right of the L key on czech keyboards, or
the ' key on us keyboards)
+ Broken behavior: " printed
+ Expected behavior: ß printed
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The patch only changes the czech keyboard layout, so the scope of regression
risk is limited to that. This changes a specific key mapping; possibly some
users may have gotten used to typing Shift+Windows+§ for ", but as mentioned in
the bug report Shift+' gives the equivalent function with one fewer key press.

2012-06-04 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2012-06-04 Thread Chauncellor
neopegasus, it may be the same bug, merely that intel chips are much
more affected. If this bug report gets fixed and your issue is not
resolved, you'll need to report a new bug. For the meantime, it would be
good to follow this bug and see if the problem is fixed with this bug.

For now we're waiting for the reply of an X developer over on the
development report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386740] Re: [K8M800] virtual size does not correctly set on panel

2012-06-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
There has not been a comment on this bug for a couple years, is this
issue still relevant? If not let's close it out.

It sounds like the last patch was not an adequate fix for the issue? If
so, perhaps it should be change to not be listed as a 'fix' for this
bug.

open until fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system

2012-06-04 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags).
This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-
upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

2012-06-04 Thread Bzzz
apport information

** Description changed:

Follow-up of bug #930807 due to upgrade to Quantal 12.10
Happened twice today, when I was working with a virtual machine (vmplayer
4.0.3 build-703057). Both occured when vmplayer was in background, but active.
The second crash pinned X to 100% CPU and made it necessary to kill the session
rather than log out, restart X, and log in again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2012-06-04 Thread Powerman-asdf
While this patch solve conflict between keyboard layout switching hotkey
and other hotkeys, it doesn't fix this issue in general. For example, in
one have hotkey defined for Win key (a.k.a. Super_L), and for
Win+something, the first hotkey handler will always run when Win key
DOWN, thus pressing Win+something will result in executing both Win and
Win+something handlers.

It should be fixed in same way: process current key combination on first
UP event after a sequence of DOWN events, not on first DOWN.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2012-06-04 Thread Bas-bmail
The patch doesn't apply anymore to latest xorg. Could someone update it,
please?

I tried to just blindly port this patch, but it seems to cause problems
with Caps Lock (it can't be switched off once switched on). So something
has changed.

Could someone with xorg knowledge have a look please?

2012-06-04 Thread Michael
@ #260
my system freezes already with 3.2.0-25-generic #40+tja1, but only in the unity
3D application switcher.
because of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/980017/comments/54

so you need to install mesa - 8.0.2-0ubuntu3.1 :-)

(strangely, with linux 3.4 the unity 3D application switcher runs
stable...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065]

2012-06-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Tested with 190 disabled, but still same fault.

While patch 208 is a keyboard patch, it really has nothing to do with
this.

Patch 13 is from debian and is quite ancient (from 2006), so doubting
that's going to be the cause of all this.

So, if this is indeed an xserver bug, I think it may be reproducible in
the upstream codebase. Guessing that's the next step...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065]

2012-06-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Keyboard-related patches in Ubuntu's xserver:

13_debian_add_xkbpath_env_variable.diff

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg-server.git;a=blob_plain;f=debian/patches/13_debian_add_xkbpath_env_variable.diff;hb=refs/heads/ubuntu

190_cache-xkbcomp_output_for_fast_start_up.patch

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg-server.git;a=blob_plain;f=debian/patches/190_cache-xkbcomp_output_for_fast_start_up.patch;hb=refs/heads/ubuntu

208_switch_on_release.diff

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg-server.git;a=blob_plain;f=debian/patches/208_switch_on_release.diff;hb=refs/heads/ubuntu

On the theory that the bug is in the server, next step is probably to try with
each of these patches disabled in turn. 190 directly affects xkbcomp loading
so would be the one to test first.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty

2012-06-04 Thread Niko Berger
I just tested itout and it works fine on x86_64 (second machine) - the
keyboard class does not seem to be a problem - the keys on the headset
are actually volume control, so binding as a keyboard is fine.

Has there been any update about backporting the package to Precise?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-04 Thread Chauncellor
Hi, all. This has been confirmed as an intel graphics bug, not specific
to certain manufactures. If you are experiencing this bug, please mark
"me, too" at the top of this page rather than commenting (as lots of
people are subscribed to this report).

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-06-04 Thread Don Myers
Sorry!! Attached are the screen shots for 214. You are correct in
your assumption about following the nvidia-current package. Should the
updates have automatically switched from nvidia-current to nvidia-
current-updates? It looks like I can only do one attachemtn, but I tried
to do both. The first one if two don't show up showed the 295.53 driver
as the installed driver and I locked it.

you didn't include the actual installation error.. anyway, you don't
need the headers package, just the image
