[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085638] Re: Bug report

2013-02-12 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. We have instructions on
debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

2013-02-12 Thread S. Christian Collins
Patrick, is this the bug you are experiencing?:
http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=553

This is what I'm currently experiencing using KDE + fglrx drivers,
unless I use the xrender backend or disable compositing altogether.
Unfortunately, using xrender causes issues with windowed OpenGL apps not
updating their screen contents :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1122072] Re: [Precise on VirtualBox] "Fatal server error: no screen found" in Xorg.0.log

2013-02-12 Thread Paul Larson
nak
Colin built an iso with what's currently in proposed for me to try and I'm
still having problems getting to the live session. I get further than before -
to the graphical screen that asks me to choose to try ubuntu or install.
Choosing to install seems to go along ok, but if I choose the live session it
takes me to a blank screen with a dialot saying """
The system is running in low-graphics mode
Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected
correctly. You will need to configure these yourself.
"""

When I press ok, I get the following options:
* Run in low-graphics mode for just one session
* Reconfigure graphics
* Troubleshoot the error
* Exit to console login

Choosing to run in low graphics mode tells me to "Stand by one minute while the
display restarts..." then goes to a black console screen with no X as before
the fix.
Choosing to reconfigure graphics doesn't get me to a running desktop either.
Here's the Xorg.0.log from the session: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1641492/
It seems to be unhappy about not having the vboxvideo module at the moment.

Test #2

1) I have started the system.
2) I have chosen the language.
3) I have clicked on "Try Edubuntu ..."
4) This system is started no graphics.
5) I have enabled the repository precise-proposed on the sources.list (deb
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-proposed restricted main multiverse
universe).
6) I have launched on the terminal "apt-get update" "apt-get upgrade" "apt-get
dist-upgrade" and I have checked that package "libpciaccess0" had been updated.
7) I have launched on the terminal this command "lightdm start": the graphics
is started.
8) I have access on the desktop.

I confirm this fix.

thanks

Gianni

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves

2013-02-12 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Package with backported fix uploaded to precise-proposed for processing
by the SRU team.

** Description changed:

+ SRU Request:
+
+ [IMPACT]
+ A bug in the version of xorg-server in precise prevents users from scaling
screen resolution. When attempting to do so, as was possible in Natty and
earlier, and which is possible in Quantal+, the mouse pointer remains locked
inside the old resolution. This prevents users of small screens such as
netbooks from scaling to a greater screen resolution.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ - On a netbook with intel chipset, such as a Dell Mini 9 or 10, scale the
display by using the following command:
+
+ xrandr --output LVDS1 --panning 1280x750 --scale 1.25x1.25
+
+ See if the mouse moves correctly to all screen extremities, and is not
+ confined by a transparent border at 1024x600
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This is fixed with a patch backported from the xorg-server version in
Quantal. In theory it should just affect screen which are scaled and panned,
which is uncommon. If so, the patch can be backed out.
+
+
+
+ Original Bug Description:
in kubuntu (and ubuntu) 11.04 i used to enlarge my laptop screen like so

  xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2

this worked fine: the desktop scaled to larger size correctly .
After upgrading to 11.10, in kde the desktop still resizes
correctly, but the movement of the mouse is restricted to an area equal to
the screen size *before* issuing the scaling command. .. Ie let's say
the mode is 1366x768 and I do xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2 the
screen size changes to 1640x922 but the mouse moves in an area the size of
1366x768 in the top left of the screen and then 'hits a wall' preventing
- it to move. I also tried ubuntu 11.10 with gnome: here the screen also
+ it to move. I also tried ubuntu 11.10 with gnome: here the screen also
resizes, but I have the same issue with the mouse, and the extended area
  of the desktop is black...

Some time ago there was a similar issue, which was resolved later. Now it
seems
  to be back...

  jos@samsungsucks:~$ lsb_release -rd
  Description:Ubuntu 11.10
  Release:11.10

  jos@samsungsucks:~$ xrandr --version
  xrandr program version 1.3.5

2013-02-12 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Giovanni, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libpciaccess into precise-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libpciaccess/0.12.902-1ubuntu0.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

+ Without this libpciaccess fix xserver-xorg-video-vesa will not function

using the Quantal X backport stack that is in 12.04.2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081108] Re: Xorg crash after clicking on workspace in inkscape

2013-02-12 Thread Chris Cuming
I am experiencing this bug on a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 420. I have the
touchpad disabled via the Xubuntu settings manager, and I have not
upgraded X using the ppa, so my machine is in the right state for
debugging. I experience the same problem as everyone else: X crashes
immediately when I click the Inkscape workspace. What system information
do we need/commands do I need to run in order to provide useful
debugging output?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1123097] [NEW] Nouveau advertises HDMI audio capability over minidisplayport and mini dvi connectors

2013-02-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After updating to Quantal (worked fine in Precise and previous
revisions), My TV is being fooled into thinking that an audio signal is
being carried from the HDMI input (not possible as using a DVI-HDMI
cable). As a result, the TV looks for HDMI audio and ignores the
analogue input TV analogue input making it impossible to get audio to
the TV.

I believe this relates to recent changes in nouveau.
Using "nouveau.hdmi_disable" parameter fixes the audio issue but limits the
resolution I can use. It seems some of this behaviour is addressed by EDID
quirks (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=806091 , and
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/1309291/) which allow for selectively
disabling the HDMI audio component in nouveau. but I don't think they are
implemented yet in Quantal kernel?

Hardware us Mac mini 3,1. Same behaviour occurs using mini DP or mini DVI
connector.
TV is an LG 32LE5900, The same is probably true of all LE5900s.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1122072] Re: [Precise on VirtualBox] "Fatal server error: no screen found" in Xorg.0.log

2013-02-12 Thread Paul Larson
Seems to be a regression from 12.04.1. Tried this with 12.04.1 and it
works fine with that release, but on the same setup it fails with
current isos.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969154] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 as a VMWare Workstation 8 guest

2013-02-12 Thread Required input is missing.
@Totya and @dts-dreamer:
Note that the xorg.conf only works in Kubuntu and Ubuntu. In Xubuntu it crashes
XFCE.
So the bug is still there, but the workaround works in some Ubuntu-flavors.

Still, Canonical should patch the issue.
We are almost at 13.04 and the issue is STILL in Ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1123024] [NEW] Screen flickering at login screen

2013-02-12 Thread Marcomurk
Public bug reported:

On a Sony Vaio E-series with a Radeon HD7650M graphics card the screen starts
flickering black at login screen (I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 with the last updates).
It's only a video-issue: apart from this Ubuntu is properly running.

I discovered a dirty workaround for the problem: when screen starts
flickering, if I close the laptop lid and wait about 10s for the system
to enter sleep/standby mode, after I open it again and resume the pc
from sleep/standby the problem disappears until next system boot (even
if i launch 3d-stuff like "extremetuxracer" there's no problem until
next boot).

Other people are writing about (apparently) the same problem on AskUbuntu:

All contents of the screen are displayed, but screen is typically divided into

stripes, but a ghost image of the last screen before reboot, in cyan/red.
