When compiling mesa with osmesa and --enable-shared-glapi, OpenGL
functions such as glNormal3f, glVertex3f, etc. are not defined in
libOSMesa but are defined in libGL. It would be good if there was an
option to build libOSMesa with static GL API and the rest built with
shared GL API at the same time. This means if libGL is replaced with a
proprietary libGL, libOSMesa can still continue to function properly.

OK, I uninstalled the Nouveau X driver, blacklisted the Nouveau kernel
driver and rebooted. As I suspected, it made no difference: the X
server still failed to start. I'll attach the Xorg.0.log from this time

2013-06-13 Thread Adam Dingle
Note that in the X log I attached the X server still loads the Nouveau X
driver nouveau_drv.so. As I mentioned I blacklisted the kernel driver,
so I assume that the X driver can't do anything. Still, maybe I should
repeat this experiment with the Nouveau X driver uninstalled.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1190806] [NEW] X server fails to start on MacBookPro9, 1 with hybrid Intel/Nvidia graphics: no screens found

2013-06-13 Thread Adam Dingle
Public bug reported:

I have a MacBookPro9,1, which has both an integrated Intel HD Graphics
4000 controller and a discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 650M. I want to
disable the Nvidia graphics and boot using Intel only, since I don't
need the Nvidia chip's capabilities and it shortens battery life (and
makes suspend/resume not work; see bug #1084960). But when I blacklist
the Nouveau driver and reboot using the Intel driver only, the X server
fails to start: it reports "no screens found" and crashes.

I'm booting using EFI rather than BIOS; not sure whether that's
relevant.

I'll attach the X server log and the dmesg log. Just let me know if
there's any other information I can provide.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184085] Re: Xorg server crashes when drawing dashed circles

2013-06-13 Thread Romano Giannetti
Thanks --- although I suspect it will be tough on performance. Now the
problem I have... it was in 2003 the last time I had to edit an
xorg.conf file, and now I discovered it's not there anymore. I have seen
a group of files in /ust/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/, but no idea on how and
where to add that option...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1190659] [NEW] USB Mouse/Keyboard Randomly Freezes

2013-06-13 Thread Robert Tari
Public bug reported:

Applies to Ubuntu 13.04 amd64. The bug has been present from release
day, and is still there after 4 minor kernel versions.

This affects any standard USB mouse or keyboard (tested with several).
The hardware sometimes stops responding just a few seconds after boot,
while at times freezes only after 20-30 hours.

It is always reprodicible, since either the mouse or keyboard does stop
responding, it is only a matter of time.

The logs show nothing out of the ordinary. If there is any additional
info I should provide, please let me know.

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1183269] Re: new upstream release 9.1.3

2013-06-13 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Bit late, at most the verification-failed tag would have been
appropriate for 9.1.3-0ubuntu0.1. Because this is fixed with a new
upload to -proposed, so it no longer applies.

Anyway I did a piglit run, surprisingly here have been no regressions
except two on my nvd9 with nouveau. ati and intel had none.

The first one was in EGL_NOK_swap_region -- but swapping and vblank were
disabled because that card has no physical output, so I think it was a race.
The other test has been failing on intel too, with the exact same error
message. I think the test may be unreliable.

I'm marking this bug as verification-done, considering there have been
reports of #1187500 slowness being fixed I'll mark that as verification-
done too. If the slowness issue persists modify that bug, not this one..

I mean persistent across reboot and the acceleration factor is small and
always the same (and it even pitch-shifts audio, instead of chopping it,

Thanks for the link. I've tried today's xf86-video-intel git with the
commit which is marked as a solution via link you provided. I can
confirm that I was unable to reproduce this issue, but I cannot say for
sure as with recent changes this bug on my machine apperars much more
rarely than before. It can reappear later, but I hope it won't. I'll
provide any new info here if any.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184085] Re: Xorg server crashes when drawing dashed circles

2013-06-13 Thread Romano Giannetti
I can confirm that the bug *does NOT* occur in another machine with ATI
card which uses the open-source radeon modules. In that machine, xfig
works ok (no crashes and the solid color fill are ok). So it seems a
intel-driver bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1051202] [NEW] Playback of video in Flash Player becomes very accelerated at random times until reboot

2013-06-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

At random times, ALL video playback in any flash-based video player (e.g.
videos on YouTube and Vimeo) start playing at abnormal speed, several times
faster than normal. I have already reported this bug to Adobe (and incredibly
enough nobody from adobe has said a f***ing word), but two things make me
suspect this is something much deeper and external to Flash Player:
1. This only happens on Linux
2. more importantly, when this start happening, restarting the flash player
(usually the browser) doesn't fix the issue. Nothing except reboot fixes the
issue.

Hello.

Since I've upgraded from 2.20.18 version of intel driver page previews
in Firefox are rendered improperly (see attached screenshot). Tested
versions of intel driver are 2.20.{18,19} and 2.21.{0,2,3}, Firefox's
versions are 17.0-19.0. I don't think it is a Firefox issues it is
completely gone when downgrading back to 2.20.18.

My system is Gentoo amd64, currently with latest Firefox and intel driver. My
current kernel version is 3.8 and it is vanilla. I am using SNA acceleration.
If there is any additional info that would be helpful I am ready to provide it.

This issue happens occasionally, but I don't have a 100% reproducible
way to show it. One of the most sucessfull attempts to reproduce it is:

1. make all `speed dial` buttons (previews on about:newtab) in Firefox filled
with something reasonably heavy, not plain-text pages (on my machine it is a
couple of youtube pages, web interface to SAGE, couple of redmines, etc.)
2. close all tabs except one and this last one tab should be about:newtab page
3. middle-click all the previews as fast as you can one by one, so the pages
begin to load in background
3. now hit Ctrl+W till you close everything including that about:newtab page
where you've started. You shouldn't wait until all pages you've opened on step
3 are loaded.
4. now open about:newtab again and with a good chance some of the preview will
be corrupted. Sometimes there is no corruption, but some preview is displayed
on the wrong position, for example two different sites share the same preview
image.

Another way to reproduce:

1. make at least one `speed dial` button (preview on about:newtab) in Firefox
filled with any kind of preview, just any site you want
2. close all tabs except one and this last one tab should be about:newtab page
3. go to http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ and add it to bookmarks, then
close tab (sorry, bookmarking is the only way I know to make a specific site to
show up in previews)
4. open about:newtab again and remove any preview image from it by pressing [X]
5. open bookmarks and drag dreamworksanimation bookmark you've made on step 3
into the freed on step 4 place
6. now visit http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ so Firefox will generate
preview
7. close tab and open again about:newtab. The preview for dreamworksanimation
should be corupted

Sorry if the descriptions are a bit messy. Also I don't have any other
issues with firefox sites rendering, just issues with rendering
previews. I wish there was an easier way to reproduce it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1190546] [NEW] using nvidia driver causes intel to be detected twice

2013-06-13 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
 * When using nvidia drivers and the nvidia graphics card is boot vga the intel
card will be added twice, causing xserver to fail to start up correctly.
 * Proper optimus usecase requires this.

[Test Case]
 * Either:
  - Have an affected laptop with nvidia drivers
  - hack xserver-xorg-video-nouveau NVPlatformProbe to always return false
immediately, and use vgaswitcheroo to force nouveau as primary:
 # stop lightdm
 # echo DIS > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
 # echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
 * Start xserver with "Xorg" and no configuration file.
 * Good behavior: starts normally, with the nvidia card driving all displays
 * Bad behavior: "Fatal server error: AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for gpu
driver 1 -1"

[Regression Potential]
 * Unlikely to regress, the fix affects code paths that previously were broken,
and could have caused devices to be added multiple times, resulting in the
fatal server error seen here. Extra checks are added to make sure platform <->
pci device confusion won't happen.
 * GPU detection may be affected in some way, testing will have to be done to
make sure the normal cases are unaffected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066599]

2013-06-13 Thread Ma Xiaojun
Hi,

The upstream Mesa fix won't get distributions' libOSMesa right
automatically.

It seems that libOSMesa need to be compiled without --enable-shared-
glapi while other Mesa components need --enable-shared-glapi

Therefore, distributions need to build libOSMesa separately, which is
not been done in Arch, Debian, Ubuntu currently.

Is this the right way to compile Mesa? Is there any distributions
already do things right? Would you file bugs to distributions?

Thank you in advance.

Every night I suspend my laptop, every morning it unsuspends
successfully. A little while after being up and running (10 minutes
perhaps) the X server shuts down and dumps me at a boot console showing
me what things started up when I booted.

Lightdm is still running but X is dead. The Xorg log file appears to be
acting as if it was asked to shutdown

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1190487] [NEW] package libgl1-mesa-dri 9.1.1-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite shared '/etc/drirc', which is different from other instances of package libgl1

2013-06-13 Thread James Matarrese
Public bug reported:

This particular happening of the problem arose on its own, but I see a
similar message every time I try to launch Steam. I get a Terminal
window that says I need to install the above package. I enter my
password and hit Enter, but the installation ends up failing, causing
another few error windows to pop up, then Steam launches and runs as
normal. Was not going to submit a bug report until the issue arose
without the involvement of Steam.

I'm using Ubuntu 13.04. GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 6850, using the open
source drivers.
