Simon K, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags: kernel-unable-to-test-upstream kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975414] Re: lightdm failed to run
I had probably the same problem with an ATI 9100 (r200) using xserver-xorg-video-ati/xserver-xorg-video-radeon driver. I noticed that 3d acceleration was working ("glxinfo|grep direct" showed "direct rendering: Yes" and glxgears worked fine), anyway seems like "lightdm" is not able to check it correctly. Despite that, gdm seems to not have the same problem: doing "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm" and selecting "gdm" as default display manager solved my problem, though it is actually just a workaround. Not sure if I'm completely right, but it seems to be at least related with lightdm, too. ** Also affects: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/975414 Title: lightdm failed to run To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/975414/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212425] Re: SDK applications require /tmp access with nvidia (should honor TMPDIR)
** Summary changed: - SDK applications require too many accesses on desktop with nvidia + SDK applications require /tmp access with nvidia (should honor TMPDIR) ** Description changed: Nvidia desktop users need the following AppArmor permissions to avoid denials: - owner /tmp/gl* mrw, + owner /tmp/gl* mrw, But this rule breaks application confinement such that apps are able to tamper with each other. Interestingly, apps still run without the rule, so we can explicitly deny it for now. The use of /tmp is apparently hardcoded and does not honor TMPDIR (application confinement will setup TMPDIR to a private area for the app). strace confirms this: 24603 mkdir("/tmp", 0777) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) 24603 open("/tmp/glBRPYmm", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, 0600) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) - While the use of O_EXCL is safe however, we don't allow access to /tmp - for confined apps and libraries/applications should always honor TMPDIR. + While the use of O_EXCL is safe, we don't allow access to /tmp for + confined apps and libraries/applications should always honor TMPDIR. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-tegra in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1212425 Title: SDK applications require /tmp access with nvidia (should honor TMPDIR) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu/+bug/1212425/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I tested fglrx-installer-experimental-13 (2:13.101-0ubuntu0.0.2) and fglrx-pxpress with and without jockey on my Dell Inspiron N4110 and they worked without problems. Thanks to PowerXpress I can use the discrete card. I also tested nvidia-319 and nvidia-319-updates (one at a time) together with nvidia-prime (with and without jockey) on my Lenovo L480S. It all works correctly with Hybrid graphics. I haven't experienced any regressions with systems with a single GPU (e.g. my Inspiron 1122). All drivers show up and install correctly. Neither nvidia-prime nor fglrx-pxpress is installed in this case (as expected). Also, using stacks older than Raring's (lts-raring), no drivers show up on systems with hybrid graphics, as expected. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1198942 Title: Hybrid Graphics and general enablement for fglrx and nvidia in Precise for 12.04.3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/1198942/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1062077] Re: [HP TouchSmart tm2-2010eg] Linux hangs with: "[drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5secs aborting"
So after finding an Windows image and flashing my Bios to F.25 the problem is still the there. What happened: I installed WinVista, flashed my BIOS (The Insyde-Setup sayed: old ID: 1486, old Version: F.12 - new ID: 1486, new Version: F.25) After finishing the setup my PC shutdown. The power seemed to be "disconnected" abruptly (like when I disconnect my power-cable and there is no battery while the notebook is running) After that I started my notebook, the BIOS seems to sometimes not register my keys (i.e. I can't open some pages from others, where I could before). Ubuntu didn't show anything on the build in screen. I plugged in an external screen, started Ubuntu and switched, via tty1, the graphicscard to "Intel only" (IGD). At this point I started Ubuntu in the "Recovery Mode" (via Grub) and activated Xorg failsafe. It did however hang a huge time without starting any X. So I rebooted. After a new restart I could change my brightness with my FN-keys again (my Notebook starts with a blank screen every time, I have to higher the brightness then). octavian-tm2:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date [sudo] password for octavian: F.25 02/18/2011 I hope the important informations where mentioned by me. PS: I've tested a few times, subjectively I would say that it got better (it hangs for a shorter time period), this however needs more testing to be sure. ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-f.25 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1062077 Title: [HP TouchSmart tm2-2010eg] Linux hangs with: "[drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5secs aborting" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1062077/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
