[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1505216] Re: Display freezes randomly
Amir, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and- netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g580-notebook an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (5ECN96WW). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1505274] [NEW] Please provide upgrade to Catalyst 15.9
Public bug reported: AMD released the Catlyist 15.9 update to the AMD driver several months ago, but the driver has yet to be added to the repositories. Some of the patches are no longer necessary, such as the OpenCL provides patch to prevent dependency issues with some OpenCL dependent programs, but I suspect those patches will not be an issue if left in. The driver is tested and thus supported with kernel versions through 3.19.x and Xorg 1.17.x. This means it should work with current V-Series releases and upgrade stacks without version compatibility patches. Like the OpenCL dependency patch, it should do no harm to leave those patches in, and unlike the OpenCL dependency patch, it's probably a good idea to do so. This patch provides several performance fixes and one known corruption fix.
