I have been investigating other bug reports. I can't find anything that helps my very much, but I did note references to timing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected (pure intel 8th gen laptop)
I'm having the same problem on a Lenovo T430. If I boot the laptop on its own, it boots fine. If it's on the dock, which has two external monitors attached to it, it boots until it gets to the Ubuntu splash screen with the spinning propeller tips and never passes that point. I've left it on overnight and it never completes booting to the desktop. If I boot it on it's own, sign in to the desktop, and then dock it, both external monitors are recognized and opening/closing the lid toggles the multiple pane layouts as expected. Like Tim, I can get it to fully boot on the dock with multiple monitors by updating /etc/default/grub to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872159 Title: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected (pure intel 8th gen laptop) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/1872159/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1872501] [NEW] Modifications ALT R mapping at xmodmap not taking effect
Public bug reported: How to map ALT Gr key as ALT R on Ubuntu 20.04? As described in an Ask Ubuntu post, I've executed xev at Ubuntu 20.04 in order to discover ALT L and ALT R keycodes: - ALT L: keycode 64 (keysym 0xffe9, Alt_L) - ALT R: keycode 108 (keysym 0xfe03, ISO_Level3_Shift) Running xmodmap -pke > ~/.Xmodmap, the following configuration was saved: keycode 64 = Alt_L Meta_L Alt_L Meta_L Alt_L Meta_L keycode 108 = ISO_Level3_Shift NoSymbol ISO_Level3_Shift NoSymbol ISO_Level3_Shift Theoretically re-mapping 108 at ~/.Xmodmap should be enough: keycode 108 = Alt_R Meta_R Alt_R Meta_R Alt_R Meta_R However, even running xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap and also saving this command at ~/.xinitrc, the modifications did not take effect immediately or after login again at Ubuntu. Thus it is not possible to execute extensible commands in Emacs using ALT R + X at Emacs So what is the proper way of changing ALT R behavior? Or is it a bug at 20.04 release? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1872327] Re: OLED brightness control on Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7
I found a workaround using a script that is triggered by inotify. I created the script called brightness in /usr/local/bin: sudo nano /usr/local/bin/brightness content: -- #!/bin/sh path=/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight luminance() { read -r level < "$path"/actual_brightness printf %.10f\\n "$((100 * level/max))e-2" } read -r max < "$path"/max_brightness xrandr --output eDP-1 --brightness "$(luminance)" inotifywait -me modify --format '' "$path"/actual_brightness | while read FILE do echo $(luminance) xrandr --output eDP-1 --brightness "$(luminance)" done -- chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/brightness Remarks: - The script waits for change in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness. - "intel_backlight" might be replaced the corresponding directory name in /sys/class/backlight according to your installation. - eDP-1 may be replaced by the display name (might be eDP1 or different). Check the correct display name using the xrandr command. Add the script to the in the system setting to be executed at login. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872327 Title: OLED brightness control on Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1872327/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1872415] [NEW] Laptop/Tablet lose trackpad on flipping to tablet mode.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am on a Lenovo Flex 14 laptop that includes a 360-degree hinge for flipping the screen to tablet mode. Upon flipping the screen to tablet mode the trackpad seems to be disabled but after returning the screen to 90 degrees or laptop mode the trackpad is not re-enabled. The only way the trackpad seems to be able to be re-enabled is by restarting the system. Logging out and back does not fix the problem. The laptop keyboard and touchscreen still work after flipping to 360-degrees and back to 90 degrees/laptop, but, again, the trackpad is not working after doing this operation of flipping the screen. Tested on Xubuntu 20.04 and Ubuntu 20.04, which are both in beta.
