[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1000162] Re: graphic corruption in 12.04 LTS with radeon driver

2012-06-20 Thread Aurelien Naldi
On the same hardware, Fedora 17 does not have these problems.
I'll keep the ubuntu install to test proposed fixes or the next version, but I
guess I'll start using fedora for real...

Note that Ubuntu 12.04 works fine for me on other computers (intel
integrated graphics)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1000162] [NEW] graphic corruption in 12.04 LTS with radeon driver

2012-05-16 Thread Aurelien Naldi
Public bug reported:

I have many display corruption since I upgraded my system to 12.04 (11.10 was
working fine).
The computer is a dell precision T1500 with a radeon graphic card (firepro 2260
according to lspci).
I had some old settings in xorg.conf, removing the file completely did not
solve the problem.

corruption mostly affect gnome-terminal, but also the titlebar, tabs and URL
bar in google-chrome as well as text in some dialogs.
This happens in all desktop environment I tested: unity, unity2d, gnome-shell,
old gnome (compiz or metacity).
in gnome-terminal, corruption often appear or disappear when showing large
amounts of text or hitting enter (scrolling) or changing tab.

I would be glad to attach more information using ubuntu-bugs but the
page opened for it has been stuck "reloading every 10 seconds" for the
last 5 minutes, so here is a short summary:

I will be happy to provide additional informations, test Xorg options

2011-03-01 Thread Aurelien Naldi
two finger scrolling and other multitouch stuff requires some user-land
support, it does not work out of the box in natty either.
You will have to backport ginn [1] as well to support "legacy" applications

yes, I followed these instructions (and also installed the whole utouch
package).
I get the same behaviour (and log) with or without the xorg.conf section which
is the only text in my xorg.conf as the file didn't exist at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645530] [NEW] magic trackpad not working with evdev

2010-09-22 Thread Aurelien Naldi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

I was eager to test the new support for multitouch devices so I got a magic
trackpad. Beside the association only working on command line it worked out of
the box but in basic mode: it moves the cursor and the physical click works but
no tap to click and no scroll (either on edge or with two fingers)
The gestures are properly detected using the test tool but the xorg driver
fails to load. I get these lines in the xorg.conf file:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410305] Re: screen flickering on dell laptop

2009-08-19 Thread Aurelien Naldi
It seems to have been a problem with the in-kernel part of the driver and KMS,
fixed in the latest kernel update (2.6.31-6):
* I spotted some flicker in usplash and text console as well
* booting without KMS removed it
* it is gone, even with KMS enabled in 2.6.31-6 (and back if booting again on
2.6.31-5, it was not fixed by one of the other updates)

For the record, here is a short answer to your question:

The symptoms are similar to that of bug #399829:
many redraw trigger screen flickering, for exemple moving windows of the gdm
animations, even text scrolling in a terminal
the only difference is that changing the resolution did not work arround it for
me, otherwise, the flickering looked like the one in the video linked in bug
#399829.
