On the same hardware, Fedora 17 does not have these problems. I'll keep the ubuntu install to test proposed fixes or the next version, but I guess I'll start using fedora for real... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1000162] [NEW] graphic corruption in 12.04 LTS with radeon driver
Public bug reported: I have many display corruption since I upgraded my system to 12.04 (11.10 was working fine). The computer is a dell precision T1500 with a radeon graphic card (firepro 2260 according to lspci). I had some old settings in xorg.conf, removing the file completely did not solve the problem. corruption mostly affect gnome-terminal, but also the titlebar, tabs and URL bar in google-chrome as well as text in some dialogs. This happens in all desktop environment I tested: unity, unity2d, gnome-shell, old gnome (compiz or metacity). in gnome-terminal, corruption often appear or disappear when showing large amounts of text or hitting enter (scrolling) or changing tab. I would be glad to attach more information using ubuntu-bugs but the page opened for it has been stuck "reloading every 10 seconds" for the last 5 minutes, so here is a short summary: I will be happy to provide additional informations, test Xorg options $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor DMI (rev 11) 00:03.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev 11) 00:08.0 System peripheral: Intel Corporation Core Processor System Management Registers (rev 11) 00:08.1 System peripheral: Intel Corporation Core Processor Semaphore and Scratchpad Registers (rev 11) [...] 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev 06) 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset USB2 Enhanced Host Controller (rev 06) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev a6) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 5 Series Chipset LPC Interface Controller (rev 06) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (rev 06) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset SMBus Controller (rev 06) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV620 [FirePro 2260] [] $ dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg ii xserver-xorg1:7.6+12ubuntu1 X.Org X server ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.2Xorg X server - core server ii xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 X.Org X server -- input driver metapackage ii xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1X.Org X server -- evdev input driver ii xserver-xorg-input-mouse1:1.7.1-1build3 X.Org X server -- mouse input driver ii xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.6.0-0ubuntu1~precise1 Synaptics TouchPad driver for X.Org server ii xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse 1:12.8.0-1 X.Org X server -- VMMouse input driver to use with VMWare ii xserver-xorg-input-wacom 1:0.14.0-0ubuntu2 X.Org X server -- Wacom input driver ii xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 X.Org X server -- output driver metapackage ii xserver-xorg-video-apm 1:1.2.3-2build2 X.Org X server -- APM display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-ark 1:0.7.3-2build2 X.Org X server -- ark display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 X.Org X server -- AMD/ATI display driver wrapper ii xserver-xorg-video-chips1:1.2.4-1build2 X.Org X server -- Chips display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-cirrus 1:1.3.2-4build1 X.Org X server -- Cirrus display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-fbdev 1:0.4.2-4ubuntu2X.Org X server -- fbdev display driver [...] ii xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 X.Org X server -- AMD/ATI Radeon display driver [..] ii xserver-xorg-video-vesa 1:2.3.0-7build2 X.Org X server -- VESA display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-vmware 1:12.0.1-1ubuntu1 X.Org X server -- VMware display driver ii xserver-xorg-video-voodoo 1:1.2.4-2build2 X.Org X server -- Voodoo d

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev I was eager to test the new support for multitouch devices so I got a magic trackpad. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410305] Re: screen flickering on dell laptop
It seems to have been a problem with the in-kernel part of the driver and KMS, fixed in the latest kernel update (2.6.31-6): * I spotted some flicker in usplash and text console as well * booting without KMS removed it * it is gone, even with KMS enabled in 2.6.31-6 (and back if booting again on 2.6.31-5, it was not fixed by one of the other updates) For the record, here is a short answer to your question: The symptoms are similar to that of bug #399829: many redraw trigger screen flickering, for exemple moving windows of the gdm animations, even text scrolling in a terminal the only difference is that changing the resolution did not work arround it for me, otherwise, the flickering looked like the one in the video linked in bug #399829. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Fix Released -- screen flickering on dell laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
