[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 632048] Re: PS2 keyboad and mouse lockup

2010-12-27 Thread Brad Jascob
To blacklist the driver (so it doesn't get loaded) go to the directory
/etc/modprobe.d and edit the file blacklist.conf
Add the line blacklist asus_atk0110 to the file

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 632048] Re: PS2 keyboad and mouse lockup

2010-09-09 Thread Brad Jascob
After trying a few things I think I have tracked this down to a problem
with the module asus_atk0110. Since blacklisting this module the
behavior has not come back. If I put the module back in, I see the
problem again.

There are references on the web that for an Asus P7P55D motherboard this
driver does not have the correct bios memory mapping.

As another note, when the lock-up did occur, looking at
/proc/interrupts, int 12 failed to update. The keyboard and mouse were
in a fully disabled state (no lights...).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 632048] [NEW] PS2 keyboad and mouse lockup

2010-09-06 Thread Brad Jascob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The PS2 keyboard and mouse randomly lock-up (and don't come back) but the OS
continues to run. This can occur anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours. I can
not identify any event that triggers this. There is no error in the system
logs or the .xsession-errors files.
When the lock happens programs on the screen continue to update (I have tried
glx gears and it continues to spin and System Monitor updates).
I can plug in a USB mouse and that mouse works. I can SSH into the machine.
If I issue the commands "rmmod psmouse; modprobe posmouse" the ps2 keyboad and
mouse will start working again (for a while).
This happens when using Using Ubuntu 10.10-beta-AMD64 and 10.04-AMD64
The 10.04 version only had a few packages added and the the 10.10 version is a
clean install with the exception of installing the NVidia driver.
The system is a i7-870, Asus P7P55D-E Pro Motherboard, with a EVGA GTS250 1GB
video card
I have installed Debian 5.05 and it is stable (so it's not the hardware) but
the version of kernel used in that distro does not seem to support my audio
card.
There are a number of post about keyboard and mouse lock-ups on P7P55D
motherboard on Ubuntu forums but no solutions yet.
