[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs
Hi. I've had good luck with the following workaround. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs
This bug is easily reproducible using nvidia-binary drivers (even the latest experimental) on Saucy/Precise; however you need to set your nvidia driver into a low performance state. You can use an xorg.conf with the following: Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "Quadro 600" Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x3" EndSection Then I've been able to reproduce simply by opening xterm, and typing dmesg a few times until I see missing text. To workaround this issue I can use the following setting in CCSM: CCSM -> Workarounds -> Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint [force_swap_bufferss] I've also tested the latest PPA from ppa:smspillaz/compiz-experimental (compiz 1:0.9.10.2-1-experimental1+bzr3747-201306271732~saucy1) and found that the following experiment still produces corruption, but within a second or two it gets rendered properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861268 Title: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/861268/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157678] Re: [ffe] unplugging an external monitor from laptop results in corrupted screen. Logging out fixes it.
I've installed the package and it fixes the issue! I used the original xrandr command I used to reproduce the issue as well as plugged in and out the external VGA connector. I also suspended my laptop and repeated the tests. One note, the changelog should say [ Chris Wilson], instead of my name since he's the author of the patch. I can reproduce this issue using: xrandr --output DP1 --auto --primary --output LVDS1 --off With 3.8.0-17-generic and drm-intel-next (3.9.0-997) after plugging in an external monitor. @vorlon, Not sure what exactly changed but I have been unable to reproduce with 3.8.0-17.27. But this really doesn't make sense because the above patch was not applied to this release. I plugged in an external monitor and unplugged it 10 times, and suspended and repeated and was unable to get the original graphic glitching. @vorlon Yes, the binary build I provided had 4878cae22a2405b6d33318e2dc99a9c1367fee44 cleanly cherry picked. >From the uname you had the kernel I built installed. @ickle Would there be other patches that would also be required, or should be included to be backported to 3.8? I've tested the mainline kernel back on 3/26, and it didn't resolve my issues for me. But that particular mainline build didn't include the above fix which I had to pull from the drm-intel git tree. I've tested this build with the following on my Thinkpad T420: 1) Plugged in VGA cable to external monitor, waited monitors to set proper resolution. 2) Unplugged VGA cable, waited for LVDS1 to be set to proper resolution. 3) Repeated 1/2 a few times. 4) Suspended and resumed. 5) Repeated 1/2 a few times. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1065979] [NEW] external/internal monitors mirrored on boot when laptop lid is closed
Public bug reported: If I put my X220 in a dock, and plug in an external monitor. Then I close the lid and turn on the computer, the computer will boot up with both the internal laptop screen and external monitor on and mirror. Because I can't see the laptop screen, I would expect the external monitor to be only on at its maximum resolution. I've actually tried this without the dock by plugging in an external monitor to my laptop and shutting the lid during boot quickly, the same problem persists. This problem is exhibited on Precise/Oneiric as well as Quantal. In particular this specification mentions this behavior: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Blueprints/MultiMonitor In this user story: """Alan goes to the office, puts his laptop with the lid closed into a docking station and boots it up. The external display should be run at its native resolution. Later that day he needs to see a customer. He suspends the laptop and takes it out of the docking station. At the customer he wakes up the laptop and the internal screen is used at its native resolution. Finishing his visit the laptop is suspended, brought back to the office. There it is placed in the docking station, woken up and the external display should run again at its native resolution."""
