[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1910537] [NEW] incorrect audio-EDID on HDMI, blocking audio transmission over HDMI
Public bug reported: This is a complicated thing. I have a very specific problem with audio output on HDMI. I want to use an older notebook with Lubuntu 20.04 as a video source for libreoffice slides, videos etc. to feed them over HDMI into a Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO (video mixer) as one input. Configured on the desktop just like a second screen or beamer. Video works well and rock-stable, no problem at all. But not audio. Although I carefully configured audio with pavucontrol to be directed to the HDMI output, the ATEM switcher does not recognize it as an audio source (like when connecting a digital camera) and does not receive or indicate any audio input. Note: But when I use the very same computer, same HDMI cable, same video with a cheap chinese portable LCD screen with speakers (i.e. pull the cable from the ATEM and plug it into the screen) it immediately starts playing both video and audio. So there is evidence that the ubuntu notebook definitely passes it's sound to HDMI and there's really an audio signal on the HDMI. I've opened a bug at Blackmagic Design, and got their reply that they can't help and have never heard of such a problem before. Their guess is that the linux notebook is not setting EDID configuration correctly and thus not recognized by the ATEM, while the cheap LCD screen propably does not care about EDID and just plays everything, therefore a wrong EDID information would not matter. Although I have decades of experience with Linux, I am not too familiar with details of HDMI and the internals of the X11 driver, so I'm not sure where to start debugging, not even, whether this is a problem of Xorg/X11 or pulseaudio. I've checked this with another notebook with much more recent (intel) hardware, which offers dozens of HDMI audio options in the pavucontrol selection menu, but same problem: Video works, but the ATEM does not recognize it as a audio source. Blackmagic Design (they're good in Windows and MacOS, but not Linux) recommended to use an edid manager, whatever this means. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1895412] Re: X11 screen rotated
I think I've found the reason, but not the solution. I've put a Section "Monitor" Identifier "eDP-1" Option "Rotate" "normal" EndSection into /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which did not help. but then I noticed that this notebook comes with a flippable screen made for Win10 to be used as a tablet. When rotating the Screen, Xorg keeps turning the screen, but always wrong. So Xorg is technically able to handle the changing screen orientiation when turning the notebook upside down, but it always chooses wrong rotation settings. Translation of screen oriention into xrandr settings is wrong. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895412 Title: X11 screen rotated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1895412/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1895412] [NEW] X11 screen rotated
Public bug reported: Hi, I just installed 20.04.1 on a brand new Acer TravelMate B3. - First I tried Lubuntu 20.04.0 from a USB stick without problems, X11 working correctly. I did not install it because it was a 20.04.0 - Then I put a reguluar Ubuntu Desktop 20.04.1 on a USB stick and bootet from it. Even the console text output is normal for some time and then is rotated by 90 degree to the left. The X11 (installation) screen then comes up completely rotated counterclockwise bei 90 degree. I then need to do a xrand --output eDP-1 --rotate normal to get things straight. Works normal then. After installation it came up rotated again, even the login screen is rotated 90° But sorry, can't help in debugging. If I don't find a permanent solution, I need to install Lubuntu or Xubuntu, because I need to get this notebook up and running by tomorrow. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767993] Re: Lubuntu: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics
Are you just here to keep me busy with useless conversation? As I said: - that machine with that monitor connected over display port was working well for more than a year with ubuntu 16.10, 17.04, 17.10, it just took the nomodeset - and it works well under 18.04 just for the login screen, trouble begins after login. So don't tell me what the hardware is capable of. The hardware was doing the job until last friday when I put a fresh 18.04 on that machine. The question is: What happens between the login screen's X11-Session and the user X11-Session. Why is the former working and the latter not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767993 Title: Lubuntu: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1767993/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767993] Re: Lubuntu: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics
I've found the problem (or at least got some closer): It's the display port. I'm using a monitor with 2560x1440 pixels, connected with display port. The computer has, although tiny, 2xhdmi and 1xdisplay port outputs. when (without nomodeset) lightdm starts Xorg, it works on the display port with full resolution, but as soon as the session starts, the screen remains black. When I use a HDMI Monitor together with the display port, only console and mouse pointer work, not even a visible login screen. but when I use a FullHD HDMI Monitor only, everything works. Now, when I use my 2560x1440 monitor over HDMI, the session works, but does have FullHD 1920x1080 only and thus is somewhat blurred. Furthermore, there's trouble with the mouse, it behaves crazy as soon as entering an thin area on the left side of the screen. So now I have a slightly blurred 1920x1080 desktop, a troubled mouse, and a display-port-monitor connected with an HDMI cable.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1767993] Re: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics
This is definitely not correct. a) the problem is not that I can't login. The problem is, the the screen remains black and freezes after login when nomodeset is not given. b) I had the same problem with the same machine under 17.04 and 17.10, but giving nomodeset solved the problem, the x server then came up with high resolution. So it is wrong to claim that nomodeset causes the Xserver to remain in vesa mode. c) logging in via ssh will take some time because I don't have a second machine here on my desk, I have to get a second computer first. Although I'm more than willing to blame systemd for any sort of problem, I'm not sure whether systemd would explain resolution problems. d) Would be easier if the ubuntu team fixed the recovery mode that's not working under 18.04. e) Once upon a time (10-20 years ago) X servers used to have a -probeonly option to analyze and solve that sort of problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767993 Title: X11 freezing/low resolution on N3150 intel graphics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1767993/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: Hi, I just installed a fresh 18.04 on an ASRock beebox N3150 machine. The regular ubuntu desktop installer hanged after entering X11 mode, machine froze. I then used Lubuntu alternate installer with the console based installation, which worked without any problem. But after rebooting the system again hung after the graphical login prompt. I then changed the boot options in /etc/default/grub to give the kernel the options nosplash nomodeset and to leave the system in console mode (I had similar experiences with former ubuntu versions on that machine where X11 did not start when the mode had been set by console.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574675] Re: System crashes after login
My current guess that xorg crashes when the IP addresses change. When i had the system as from the Lubuntu installation, it worked. I then installed my regular software environment, and it started crashing, but after login. I then removed NetworkManager and replaced it with /etc/network/interfaces, and it crashed even earlier, before login. But it works when I first boot into maintenance (root shell) mode, just wait until the system has it's IP address, and then proceed, it works fine. So I guess that it somehow runs into trouble if there is no outer IP address when X11 starts or when the IP address changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574675 Title: System crashes after login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1574675/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1503590] Re: Trouble with DisplayPort
apport information ** Tags added: ubuntu ** Description changed: I've installed 15.10 beta on a brand new ASRock beebox N3150 PC. This device has three display connectors, 1x DisplayPort, 2xHDMI. I'm having a Display with 2560x1600, and thus want to use with with DisplayPort for full resolution. When connecting screen and PC with DisplayPort, both the BIOS and the Linux BootSplash/Console correctly recognize the screen to be connected to DisplayPort and are displayed as usual. But as soon as X starts, screen becomes black (and the screen itself somewhat confused, because it does not even respond to the menu button anymore). Interestingly, the same screen worked properly when connected with DisplayPort to another Linux machine with 14.04. - Connecting the screen with HDMI instead works without any problems, but - gives a reduced resolution of 1920x1080 only. + Connecting the screen with HDMI instead works without any problems, but gives a reduced resolution of 1920x1080 only. + --- + ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu2 + Architecture: amd64 + BootLog: + + CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' + CompositorRunning: None + CurrentDesktop: XFCE + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: wily + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + DkmsStatus: + virtualbox, 5.0.4, 4.2.0-14-generic, x86_64: installed + virtualbox, 5.0.4, 4.2.0-16-generic, x86_64: installed + ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical + GraphicsCard: + Intel Corporation Device [8086:22b1] (rev 21) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Device [1849:22b1] + InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-09-03 (45 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Alpha amd64 (20150825) + LightdmGreeterLog: + ** Message: Starting lightdm-gtk-greeter 2.0.1 (Aug 7 2015, 01:24:18) + ** Message: [Configuration] Reading file: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.d/01_ubuntu.conf + ** Message: [Configuration] Reading file: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.d/30_xubuntu.conf + ** Message: [Configuration] Reading file: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf + Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyupstart: indicator-application main process (1991) killed by TERM signal + LightdmGreeterLogOld: + ** Message: Starting lightdm-gtk-greeter 2.0.1 (Aug 7 2015, 01:24:18) + ** Message: [Configuration] Reading file: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.d/01_ubuntu.conf + ** Message: [Configuration] Reading file: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf.d/30_xubuntu.conf + ** Message: [Configuration] Reading file: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf + upstart: indicator-application main process (1537) killed by TERM signal + Lsusb: + Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub + Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:0821 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. + Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:c05a Logitech, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1310588] [NEW] Overscan on TV
Public bug reported: Hi, I use this tiny computer not with a regular PC monitor, but (through HDMI) connected to a 55" FullHD TV. Unfortunately, there's an overscan (i.e. the screen shows only a part of the desktop, most part of the icons and the menu bar are invisble) on that TV. Due to scaling effekts, the visible part looks ugly. I already had this problem with ubuntu 13.04. Then I was happy to see that it had been fixed in ubuntu 13.10. Public bug reported: Hi, after upgrading my machine from 9.10 to 10.04 (01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 3200 Graphics) moving windows, scrolling etc. has become extremely slow, obviously hardware support is missing. I also had trouble removing the fglrx package for testing, since the postrm script tried to undivert /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 which was missing, thus causing dpkg-divert to abort with error and making the package unremovable (without manual interaction). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 409018] [NEW] Need to override HDMI resolution list
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg Hi, this is rather a wish than a bug report. I connected an ubuntu machine with an HDMI cable to a small LCD TV. Unfortunately, the TV's firmware is not that good. Although the TV has a 1366x768 panel, it only lists 1920x1080 and 720x480 as possible resolutions. The X11 server refuses to use any other than those two listed resolutions, even if configured in xorg.conf. (The manufacturer says, it is not possible to use the TV with any other resolution, not even in the panel's resolution of 1366x768.) Unfortunately it is impossible to get an acceptable resolution, because 1920x1080 is scaled down and blurred, while 720x480 is scaled up and again, blurred. But then something curios happened: Accicendtly I pulled a little bit at the HDMI cable and it slipped out of the plug just a little bit. Then, the BIOS and Linux in console mode did not show anything on the TV anymore and instead used the analog VGA port. But once the X11 server started, it chose the resolution of 1366x768 as configured in xorg.conf, and even the TV accepted it, displaying 1360x768 as resolution (don't ask me why it detected 1360 instead of 1366), and the display was absolutely sharp and perfect, and in the correct resolution. So I guess that the losen HDMI cable allowed to transmit the signal from the PC to the TV, but not from the TV to the PC. PC could not detect the TV and read its table. This shows that it would be usefull to have an option to force the X11 server to ignore the resolution table reported by the screen on DVI and HDMI and to rigorosly use the given resolution as an override, in order to circumvent firmware problems as described. regards ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Need to override HDMI resolution list https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/409018 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 367409] Re: Bad support for ATI RS690 / X1200 graphics card
OK, after upgrading the ati driver seems to work well with the card (which definitely was not the case the days before I've opened the bug, because the ati driver is where I started to solve problems. However, the ati driver does not seem to support the HDMI audio. An HDMI audio device appears, but does not work. The radeon and radeonhd drivers did not work either with audio, but at least I found hints in forums that the latest radeonhd driver from ATI's web site was what is needed to get HDMI sound working. regards -- Bad support for ATI RS690 / X1200 graphics card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367409 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 367409] Re: Bad support for ATI RS690 / X1200 graphics card
xorg.conf: I've tried different drivers, such as radeonhd and fglrx. I've forced the resolution into 1440x900, since the computer is connected via HDMI to a flat panel TV, which has a physical resolution of 1440x900, but always lists these resolutions for multimedia compatibility: % xrandr Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1050 default connected 1680x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1680x1050 60.0* 1400x1050 60.0 1280x1024 60.0 1440x900 60.0 1280x960 60.0 1360x768 60.0 1152x864 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.0 56.0 640x48060.0 which makes xorg choose a wrong resolution (being interpolated) by the TV. ** Attachment added: "xorg.conf" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27653353/xorg.conf -- Bad support for ATI RS690 / X1200 graphics card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367409 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
