[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652198] [NEW] "Dead space" in multiple monitor configs are accessible by mouse

2010-09-30 Thread Julian Lam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have a dual-monitor setup with the following resolutions:
1: 1920x1080 (left)
2: 1600x900 (right)

Therefore, there are 180 pixels of so called "dead space" underneath the
second (right-hand) monitor, which is explicitly not viewable due to
physical constraints.

The expected behaviour is dealing with this dead space is to not let the
mouse enter at all, meaning icons/windows/etc will not become "trapped"
inside. However, ubuntu will let the mouse wander into the dead zone,
which, to the unknowing, is quite jarring, as the mouse will have
literally "disappeared".

KMS works fine in my experience, and I haven't experienced this apport
crash since perhaps... 4 weeks ago?

If that changes anything.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533672] Re: [855GM] No video in Lucid

2010-03-08 Thread Julian Lam
Updating to kernel 2.6.32-16-generic has resolved the issue mostly. I
now have video.

During boot-up, however, a message comes up during the splash screen:
"Could not read bytes: Broken Pipe"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533672] Re: [855GM] No video in Lucid

2010-03-07 Thread Julian Lam
Hey Geir,

Holding down shift got the grub menu to show up.

Anyways - recovery mode does not work - the 2.6.32-15 kernel (recovery)
has the same problem.

Selecting the older kernel (2.6.31-20) gave some cryptic error about not
finding a device, but when I pressed the power button, it booted into
Lucid.

An associated apport crash report was generated - please see bug 533976

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533672] Re: [855GM] No video in Lucid

2010-03-07 Thread Julian Lam
Hi Geir, Bryce, thanks for replying:

I am unsure of how to get to recovery mode, as the kernel selection
screen no longer comes up in the boot process. Looking into it now.

Ctrl-Alt-F1 (and its derivatives) do not work, unfortunately, and I have
been unsuccessful in getting a prompt in order to install ssh.

2010-03-06 Thread Julian Lam
Please note that this bug was reported on a live session.. which means
almost all of those attachments above are useless.

The only one you should concern yourself with is the one named "xorg
log".

I installed Karmic onto the laptop, updated it fully, and then ran
"update-manager -d" to upgrade to the latest Lucid build.

When I restarted, there was no more video.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533672] [NEW] [855GM] No video in Lucid

2010-03-06 Thread Julian Lam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I wish I could give a better description, but that's literally what it
is.

Before you mark this as a duplicate of bug 511001, please note that I
don't get a mouse pointer. I don't even get to log in, nor do I see the
gdm splash screen. The console outputs the hard drive check, blanks, and
that's the last thing the laptop does, since it just sits there, blank,
humming quietly afterward.

I've attached a xorg.log of the boot process. If you need any other
information, just give a holler.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 320585] Re: [Jaunty] Does not respond to tapping (scrolling fine)

2009-07-26 Thread Julian Lam
Yes, interesting... my one-finger tapping stopped working on my
Synaptics touchpad yesterday after an update. My laptop does not support
two-finger tapping.

2009-07-24 Thread Julian Lam
Can anyone test to see if this is still prevalent in Karmic Koala? I can't
quite check until Sunday night.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 402777] [NEW] Monitor turns off on incorrect events

2009-07-21 Thread Julian Lam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm not quite aware of which package this should be reported against, so
I am reporting it again xorg in the hopes that someone will come along
and re-assign it properly. Thanks!

Ever since upgrading to Karmic, I've been having sporadic problems with
my monitor turning off at inappropriate times.

Test case:
Switching to a tty session, and then switching back to tty7. Immediately after,
the monitor will blank. Moving the mouse will wake up the monitor again.

This is reproducible for me, every time.

I've also experienced it once or twice when I've accidentally let my
laptop power cord unplug. The switch from AC to battery power seems to
have triggered an event, and the monitor turned off.

The following events occur in my system log whenever the monitor turns off:
Jul 21 19:13:55 julian-4 acpid: client 3279[0:0] has disconnected
Jul 21 19:13:55 julian-4 acpid: client connected from 3279[0:0]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 355761] Re: [i855] [Intel 82852/855GM] xrandr does not output correctly to VGA output

2009-07-09 Thread Julian Lam
Problem got marginally better when using kernel 2.6.30-020630-generic.
However, outputting to VGA output is still unbearable with compiz on.
Xrandr works perfectly when compiz is off.

Any hope for Karmic?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 355761] Re: [i855] [Intel 82852/855GM] xrandr does not output correctly to VGA output

2009-05-16 Thread Julian Lam
Doesn't seem as though the problem has been solved in more recent kernel
release candidates (2.6.30-020630rc5-generic), although, of course, that
could be because it's not a kernel problem in the first place.
