[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in virtual machines (GTK ngl backend)
I was able to get something working on my win 11 i9-13900H discrete RTX2000 laptop. I used: mks.enable3d = "TRUE" mks.enableDX12Renderer = "TRUE" mks.enableDX11Renderer = "FALSE" mks.dx12.vendorID = "0x17AA" and I also had to do: settings->system->dislay->graphics entries for both vmware.exe and vmware-vmx.exe (its in a subdirectory) Both entries specify that vmware must run only on RTX2000 and not the cpu GPU. Still seeing MESA: error: ZINK: failed to choose pdev glx: failed to create drisw screen but that might be known? I dont think linux will be stable until you back off mesa to not have that error. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061118 Title: Rendering issues in virtual machines (GTK ngl backend) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/2061118/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Also tried virtualbox this morning on a different win 11 machine with an nvidia laptop gpu and same thing. Public bug reported: Press the Print Screen button, select the Record Screen option and then press capture [1]. The screen recording works as expected however does not display the mouse cursor making it hard to use the screen capture for a tutorial without using a third-party capture device. The screen cast should capture the mouse pointer by default. Or [1] you include an option to show/hide the mouse pointer in the recording. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1822394] Re: [Dell BIOSes dated 27 Mar 2019, XPS 9575, Precision 5530 2-in-1] laptop keyboard & touchpad not working at gdm screen after boot
I did some distro hopping with my XPS 15 9575 (BIOS 1.13.0) Ubuntu 20.04.1 system had the same problem, but I found that the latest Pop!_OS (20.10) and Manjaro (20.2.1) did not have the issue. This leads me to believe that the issue was fixed on systems using updated kernels, such as kernel 5.8.8, but is still present on kernel version 5.8.0-36 that ships with the most up-to-date Ubuntu 20.04.1. On Ubuntu 20.04.1, I was able to use the workaround found above, by adding "blacklist intel_vbtn" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and rebooting Will possibly looks into whether Ubuntu 20.10 ships with a kernel that still has this problem -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libinput in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1822394 Title: [Dell BIOSes dated 27 Mar 2019, XPS 9575, Precision 5530 2-in-1] laptop keyboard & touchpad not working at gdm screen after boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libinput/+bug/1822394/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132
Could someone offer advice please? I was affected by this bug in 12.04 LTS Precise but in practical terms fixed it by installing nvidia-304=304.134-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 . Subsequent security updates to nvidia packages were offered but I ignored them following comments in this thread that they reintroduced the bug. All was well until I upgraded to 14.04 Trusty yesterday but I've now hit problems. I established through investigations following the evident loss of my XWindows interface that PPAs are disabled on upgrades. I believe however that I have successfully re-enabled them in Trusty. I have a semi- functional desktop through having purged all NVIDIA drivers, and have tried to install nvidia-304=304.134-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 (and also 14.04, and 14.04.2) thinking that this would exist and correspond with the version that worked under Precise. Unfortunately they weren't found, and so I'm hoping that someone knows which nvidia package in which repository I should install in order to regain functioning graphics. My graphics card is a GeForce 6200 TurboCache (Device Id 0x0161) and it requires a 304.xx driver. Incidentally I intend upgrading very soon to Xenial but would much prefer to do this from a stable base. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1639180] Re: no login possible after update to nvidia 304.132
I was afflicted by a version of this problem after updating 12.04 LTS Precise via the Update Manager on 20/11/2016. The principal problem is that the icons on the desktop launchpad became invisible, though hovering over where I suspected that they were with the mouse did result in a small text banner identifying the application being displayed. Some colours might not be right also, but the problems are minor compared with what some people have reported. I attempted to downgrade manually using advice given here but to no avail, possibly because I wasn't sure what version of nvidia-304 I'd been on previously, though I think it was .131. After quite a lot of fiddling I gave up and reverted to the unsatisfactory 304.132, hoping that a fix, possibly consisting of a downgrade, would be forthcoming soon. I've only just subscribed to e-mails about this bug so apologies if this question has already been answered but is a fix going to be released, and if so roughly when? My Ubuntu instance is a secondary machine but I do use it and like it be working, which it was doing well until the update. If it helps my GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TurboCache and requires a 304.xx driver, and my CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5
I've been installing from the main repositories, but had previously tried using the wily-proposed instances without success. However, I've tried again, using the following steps (based on reply #123): 1) Checked /etc/apt/sources.list, and it already includes the line "deb http://gb.archive.com/ubuntu wily-proposed restricted main multiverse universe" 2) Checked /etc/apt/preferences.d/proposed-updates, it exists and contains: Package: * Pin: release a=wily-proposed Pin-Priority: 400 3) Run 'sudo apt-get update 4) Run 'sudo apt-get instal --instal-suggests fglrx-updates/wily-proposed fglrx-updates-core/wily-proposed fglrx-amdcccle-updates/wily-proposed lightdm xorg ubuntu-desktop' However, following these steps, I am told "Release 'wily-proposed' for 'flgrx-' was not found", where is the remaining extension for the 3 packages. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5
I'm still having the same problem - booting to blank screen unless I purge fglrx*, lightdm and xorg to get to a command line interface. If I only try removing fglrx*, I get a window telling me that I have to set-up my graphics card, etc., but I can't progress beyond that. I've edited /etc/default/grub to try and remove the splash screen, and commented out the only line that seemed appropriate: #GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="drm.debug=0xe plymouth.debug" However, this lets me see that the system tries loading lightdm, but then falls down - at most, I get a single character cursor at the top left of the screen. All available updates are applied. An abbreviated syslog is attached, but I'm afraid I don't know how to use this to track down the problem further. ** Attachment added: "Abbreviated syslog for failed boot" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1493888/+attachment/4535114/+files/syslog-short -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1493888 Title: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1493888/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5
I'm still have the same problems - after performing apt-get update and upgrade, installing fglrx-updates, fglrx-updates-core, fglrx-amdcccle- updates, lightdm, xorg and ubuntu-desktop, and then running amdconfig, I am greeted by a black screen upon restart (several restarts do not fix the problem). Purging fglrx*, lightdm and xorg return me to a command line interface. Even if this problem is thus isolated to be separate to the problem in this thread, I am afraid I have hit a brick wall in troubleshooting this - does anyone have any advice on how I can track down the bug (and hopefully the solution!)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1493888 Title: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1493888/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5
@Roger Barrett, @Mathew Hodson After having purged all of these files through recovery, and getting into tty, I performed the following steps: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade (just to be sure) sudo apt-get install --install-suggests fglrx-updates/wily-proposed fglrx-updates-core/wily-proposed fglrx-amdcccle-updates/wily-proposed lightdm xorg ubuntu-desktop sudo aticonfig --initial I then looked into blacklist.conf, and couldn't see a line for blacklist amdgpu (there was one for amd76x_edac), so I added that line. I then restarted to a black screen. I restarted twice more to see if this was a problem that just required a few reboots, but no joy. I rebooted into recovery (and re-purged the installed packages, and unblacklisted amdgpu), and the output for "dmesg | grep fglrx" is attached. Are there any further potential steps I can take? ** Attachment added: "dmesg.output" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1493888/+attachment/4517528/+files/dmesg.output -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1493888 Title: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1493888/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Unfortunately, this is leading to a blank screen on start-up - I can return to tty if I drop into recovery, then into root to purge the packages again before restarting. After my update, I had my computer freezing after starting lightdm. Going through recovery, I purged lightdm and xorg, so I could at least get to work with a tty terminal. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238410] Re: Inconsistent cursor visibility with cursor plugin enabled
SInce no one else has chimed in, here's my situation... I had the mouse cursor disappears problem on a fresh install of 13.10. Drove me nuts. Changing the gnome settings to false (as reported elsewhere I think) did not bring the cursor back, however, going to a full-screen terminal (CTL-ALT-F6/F7 for me) brought the cursor back. The cursor would disappear at random times, however there were two things that I could do to guarantee to make it happen. Open a video in VLC or run SSVNC. I'm not sure I did it correctly, but I added the saucy-proposed repository and I added the /etc/apt/preference file to not force other updates. Then I opened synaptic and could not find the xorg-server package that had been updated. Couldn't find anything like that, but I did find several packages with the similar version (2:1.14.3) so I blindly upgraded xserver-xorg-core, which also upgraded xserver-xorg- common (I think, because I can't find it in synaptic). I am now running xserver-xorg-core 2:1.14.5-1ubuntu2~saucy1. Anyway, all that to say that since I did that yesterday, it has completely fixed the bug for me. Haven't had the cursor disappear once. It fixed the VLC issue as well as the SSVNC issue.
