[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413293] Re: [gm45] dual screen not complete

2009-08-18 Thread Russell Robinson
Yes, it fixes the main problem!

But, there are some bugs still...

My VGA Panel is 1280x1024 and my Notebook LCD Panel is 1440x900.

In Display Preferences:
1. I cannot place the Notebook Panel in exactly the right position in relation
to the VGA. This appears to be because the icon size of one or other (probably
the Notebook Panel) is not exactly right. So, the cursor jumps vertical
position when moving between to the two displays - not positioning solves this.
2. If I reduce the Notebook Panel resolution to 1280x1024, it gets a black
border at the top. (Not that I want to do that - I'm just reporting it to you).

It seems to me the problem is the icon size for moving the displays
around - they are not in proportion to the resolution that's specified
for the corresponding displays.

Thanks! I hope the above helps.

Yes, I'll download the Live CD for Alpha 4 and try it.

I'll get back to you as soon as I can

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413293] [NEW] intel GMA X4500HD (G45) dual screen not complete

2009-08-13 Thread Russell Robinson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

X will switch to dual screen (external VGA monitor plus laptop panel)
but the laptop panel only shows half width (vertical split)

I've tried various xorg.conf attempts without success.

I've also tried pulling the resolution down on both displays. This
changes things, but still loses part of the width on the panel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 409656] [NEW] nvidia - suspected system hangs, vmware problems

2009-08-05 Thread Russell Robinson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

The computer is running 9.04 with all current updates installed.

The Open Source Nvidia driver worked pretty well for a couple of days.
However, I received screen artifacts inside VMWare guests (in
particular, Fedora 7). The artifacts were little horizontal black lines
randomly placed on the screen.

I switched to using version 180 of the proprietary driver and this fixed
the artifacts.

However, I've now had the VMware F7 guest crash completely - just stop.

I've also had the computer completely hang on a number of occasions.

The screens continue to display what was there, but the system is dead
otherwise.

I've now upgraded to version 185 of the proprietary driver and will
monitor the situation (artifacts are still gone, btw).

Of course, this might be nothing to do with the video driver, but that's
my strong suspicion.

If I get another crash, I'll update this report and switch back to the
Open Source driver for further information gathering.
