[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1934888] [NEW] Resuming from sleep garbles display configuration
Public bug reported: Hello, I'm using a thinkpad as a workstation, with a dual-display configuration: the laptop screen and a big external screen. The screen is directly connected to the laptop hdmi port, because using it through the thunderbolt port is hit-and-miss, but this is another story. When I wake my system on after a night sleep, more often than not - it's not systematic -, my primary screen - the bigger external Dell monitor - is activated alone, and the laptop screen stays completely black. I have to go to system settings -> Display to activate it again. thanks for your support /Bruno Hivert ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.10.0-1033.34-oem 5.10.41 Uname: Linux 5.10.0-1033-oem x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.gpu0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.mig: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend: suspend hibernate resume .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend_depth: default modeset uvm .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 460.80 Fri May 7 06:55:54 UTC 2021 GCC version: gcc version 9.3.0 (Ubuntu 9.3.0-17ubuntu1~20.04) ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.18 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Wed Jul 7 07:48:20 2021 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: acpi-call, 1.1.0, 5.10.0-1034-oem, x86_64: installed nvidia, 460.80, 5.10.0-1033-oem, x86_64: installed nvidia, 460.80, 5.10.0-1034-oem, x86_64: installed nvidia, 460.80, 5.8.0-59-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: No GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics [8086:9bc4] (rev 05) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:22c0] NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:1f95] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:22c0] InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-05-21 (46 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210209.1) MachineType: LENOVO 20TK001JUS ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-5.10.0-1033-oem root=/dev/mapper/vgkubuntu-root ro SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 04/15/2021 dmi.bios.release: 1.15 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N2VET30W (1.15 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20TK001JUS dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0T08861 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.ec.firmware.release: 1.8 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN2VET30W(1.15):bd04/15/2021:br1.15:efr1.8:svnLENOVO:pn20TK001JUS:pvrThinkPadX1ExtremeGen3:rvnLENOVO:rn20TK001JUS:rvrSDK0T08861WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.family: ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3 dmi.product.name: 20TK001JUS dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20TK_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3 dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.102-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 20.2.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx N/A version.nvidia-graphics-drivers: nvidia-graphics-drivers-* N/A version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.20.9-2ubuntu1.2~20.04.2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:19.1.0-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20200226-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.16-1 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1934888 Title: Resuming from sleep garbles display configuration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1934888/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1585329] Re: Sometimes a black rectangle appears briefly under the mouse cursor
Sure Christopher! A screencast couldn't record the graphical glitches, so I recorded a video with my phone and attached it to this comment. In the video I have gnome-terminal open. At the start, I press and hold the 'A' key on the keyboard and move the mouse cursor *inside* the terminal window. The cursor is constantly being hidden and shown, and the graphical glitch is visible. Then I move the cursor to outside the window. The cursor isn't hidden and the glitch doesn't occur. Then I move it back to the window. ** Attachment added: "screencast.mp4" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1585329/+attachment/4733154/+files/screencast.mp4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585329 Title: Sometimes a black rectangle appears briefly under the mouse cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1585329/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1585329] Re: Sometimes a black rectangle appears briefly under the mouse cursor
Even more interesting... I'm developing a small game in SDL. It runs in a window, hides the cursor, and in every frame moves the cursor to the center of the window. But if I move the mouse fast enough for the cursor to exit the window, it is shown for a split second and, more importantly, that black rectangle flashes in the screen under the cursor. So, this graphical glitch occurs when the mouse cursor is shown or hidden! This bug can be easily reproduced by following these steps: 1. Open a gnome-terminal 2. Move the mouse cursor to inside the window 3. Press and hold any letter in the keyboard, like 'A', to enter that letter repeatedly into the terminal, which will also hide the mouse cursor 4. Start moving the mouse cursor, keeping it inside the window, and the problem will manifest This issue occurs also in a guest session and a live session (after I disable the phantom 2nd monitor due to NVidia Optimus), so it's not because of any change I made to the system. And like I said above, I'm using a laptop with Nvidia Optimus (Nvidia driver installed, Intel card selected). I also just now tried reproducing this bug in GNOME Session Flashback, and I managed to reproduce it both with Compiz and Metacity. So, this issue isn't neither in Unity nor in Compiz! Maybe in X11. Could a developer take a look into this issue? I think there's enough info to go on now. If you need more info, just ask. ** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585329 Title: Sometimes a black rectangle appears briefly under the mouse cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1585329/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Ok, you're right. I thought that /usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf was used only for 64-bit, but it is indeed used for 32-bit as well. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages
@Alberto, sorry to confuse you. I am using Bumblebee, but I have everything working now. The alternatives are pointing to the Mesa GL libraries, nvidia-331 installed and libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 installed (though it's not installed by default nor by bumblebee, so I reported Bug #1383909 there). But forget what I said in the other comments about Bumblebee. I was referring to the NVIDIA drivers only. As I don't have a working computer with NVIDIA only, I can't test this myself. But the bug reporter and another commenter are/were affected. There are also several people marked as "affected". And I can see other people in the Web using an NVIDIA card complaining about Steam and Skype not finding the 32-bit libGL.so.1 or that it has "wrong ELF class" (because /usr/lib is listed before /usr/lib32, they say), in Trusty or previous releases. Both /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX/alt_ld.so.conf and /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX-prime/alt_ld.so.conf are empty in my system. If this is to avoid using 32-bit Mesa libraries, couldn't /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX/alt_ld.so.conf be pointing to the NVIDIA 32-bit libraries (like the bug reporter suggested)? Also, /usr/lib/nvidia-XXX-prime/alt_ld.so.conf could point to the 32-bit Mesa libraries (but they are not installed by default, so the nvidia-prime could recommend libgl1-mesa-glx:i386). But you know more about this than me. I tried configuring the alternatives to use NVIDIA's ld.so.conf and alt_ld.so.conf, and "ldd ~/.steam/bin/steamui.so | grep GL" actually finds the NVIDIA's 32-bit libGL.so.1. Maybe it's working correctly after all. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages
@Alberto Milone, sorry to bother you, could you check this bug? I was trying to understand why the NVIDIA driver package installs an empty alt_ld.so.conf file. Then I found the commit that added this change by you in Oneiric: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/utopic/nvidia-graphics-drivers/utopic/revision/44 I still don't understand the reason. The changelog says: Use an empty ld.so.conf when installing alternative for the non-native arch, otherwise it would be impossible to switch to mesa without installing mesa for the same architecture. And the subject of the added patch: Subject: [PATCH 1/1] Install an empty ld.so.conf for the fake alternative This makes sure that we don't point at Nvidia's libraries and only prevent from using mesa's ld.so.conf Is this still necessary? Right now, users running 64-bit systems who install the NVIDIA driver are not able to run 32-bit programs (like Steam and Skype) because of that empty alt_ld.so.conf. Maybe that patch should be dropped or corrected? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1362218] [NEW] Touchpad stops working after switching user
Public bug reported: I don't know what's the correct package for this bug. I'm using an Acer laptop with a Synaptics touchpad, Ubuntu 14.04 (Unity and lightdm). I also usually have a wireless mouse connected. When I switch to another user (like a guest session) using the top right cog menu directly (or by locking the screen then "switch user" from there to return to lightdm then start another session there), the touchpad doesn't work, but the mouse still works. TESTS THAT I DID With the mouse connected: 1. Start a guest session from the cog menu. > The touchpad doesn't work. Mouse is working. 2. Return to first user (through cog menu or Ctrl+Alt+F7). > Touchpad and mouse work. With mouse connected: 1. Lock the screen. 2. "Switch account" from the lock screen to return to lightdm. > Touchpad doesn't work. Mouse is working. > If the guest session is started from here, touchpad is still not working. 3. Return to first user. > Touchpad and mouse work. With mouse disconnected: 1. Start a guest session from the cog menu, or lock > "switch account" > login from there. > Touchpad and mouse work. 2. Return to first user. > Touchpad and mouse still work. > However, there was one time where the touchpad didn't work when returning to the first user (but i could re-enable it using the mouse&touchpad settings), but I couldn't reproduce it now. MORE INFO I haven't checked this in every test, but it seems the touchpad only works if syndaemon is running for the current user. In the last test (mouse disconnected) "ps aux | grep syndaemon" showed syndaemon running for both me and guest. This bug is also reported in Ask Ubuntu: http://askubuntu.com/questions/459570/synaptics-touchpad-not-detected-while-switching-user-on-unity The user presented the Xorg logs (which are similar to mine), and the important part for of Xorg.1.log is: [ 32380.253] (II) Using input driver 'synaptics' for 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' [ 32380.253] (**) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: always reports core events [ 32380.253] (**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/event17" [ 32380.260] (EE) synaptics: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Synaptics driver unable to detect protocol [ 32380.260] (EE) PreInit returned 11 for "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" [ 32380.260] (II) UnloadModule: "synaptics" [ 32380.260] (II) config/udev: Adding input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (/dev/input/mouse1) [ 32380.260] (**) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Ignoring device from InputClass "touchpad ignore duplicates" Bug #1247388 is similar (maybe the same), and the reporter says that running these commands as the second user (with admin privileges, so no guest session): sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe pmouse enables the touchpad for the second user, but disables it for the first. I confirm this. I tried this with the guest session too, but executed the commands from a virtual console logged in as an administrator. It enabled the touchpad for both users. But that only occurs when the second user is the guest session. >From Bug #868400, running this command as root before switching users: modprobe -r psmouse && modprobe psmouse proto=imps makes the touchpad work "for everyone", but breaks the touchpad settings (cursor speed, two-finger scrolling, etc). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages
I forgot to tell that I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 and NVIDIA 304 driver (plus bumblebee). Also, if I run: $ sudo update-alternatives --config x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf Then select the nvidia option. Then: $ sudo ldconfig And then reboot, I can't login. It stays in a black screen after logging in. Fortunately, the default option for x86_64 is mesa (but not for i386). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages
I've tested this a bit more. The issue is a lot more serious than I thought! The workaround provided by the bug reporter probably works for computers using an NVIDIA card. And my fix would probably work too. However, for computers with Hybrid graphics/NVIDIA Optimus (Intel+NDIVIA), like my laptop, the workaround has terrible consequences: If I add both lines to alt_ld.so.conf, Unity WON'T START when I login (I get the desktop without Unity). If I add only the "lib32" line to it, Unity starts and I can start Skype and Steam, but I get errors, at least in Steam, about missing things in display :0 or :0.0 and other types of errors. But if I start steam with optirun (I use bumblebee), Steam starts fine. So, the NVIDIA libGL.so.1 version is for NVIDIA graphics ONLY. People like me who use Hybrid Graphics, and Intel card by default, have to use the Mesa version of the library. To fix this execute: $ sudo update-alternatives --config i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf and select the option that contains "mesa". Then run "sudo ldconfig". This issue should definitely be looked into by more experienced people! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181651 Title: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1181651/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181651] Re: ldconfig problem with 64-bit nvidia driver packages
I've looked at the source code of nvidia-graphics-drivers. At around line 300 of debian/rules there is this code: # ld.so.conf dh_installdirs -p$(PKG_driver) "$(ld_so_conf_dir)" echo "$(PKG_libdir)" > "$(CURDIR)/debian/$(PKG_driver)$(ld_so_conf_path)" ifeq ($(DEB_BUILD_ARCH),amd64) echo "$(PKG_libdir32)" >> $(CURDIR)/debian/$(PKG_driver)$(ld_so_conf_path) endif # empty ld.so.conf for the fake multi-arch alternative $(shell touch "$(CURDIR)/debian/$(PKG_driver)$(alt_ld_so_conf_path)") The "touch" in the last line is probably why the alt_ld.so.conf file exists but is empty. But why make it empty? Changing these lines to: # ld.so.conf dh_installdirs -p$(PKG_driver) "$(ld_so_conf_dir)" echo "$(PKG_libdir)" > "$(CURDIR)/debian/$(PKG_driver)$(ld_so_conf_path)" ifeq ($(DEB_BUILD_ARCH),amd64) # echo "$(PKG_libdir32)" >> $(CURDIR)/debian/$(PKG_driver)$(ld_so_conf_path) echo "$(PKG_libdir32)" > "$(CURDIR)/debian/$(PKG_driver)$(alt_ld_so_conf_path)" # echo "$(PKG_libdir)" >> "$(CURDIR)/debian/$(PKG_driver)$(alt_ld_so_conf_path)" endif would probably fix this bug. (I've commented 2 of the lines in the "if" block because I don't know if they are really necessary) At least, after compiling the package with "debuild", the alt_ld.so.conf file inside isn't empty. Also, in line 122 of file debian/nvidia-current.postinst.in: # Deal with multi-arch ugliness until dpkg supports multi-arch: Doesn't Debian (and dpkg) support multi-arch now? This bug should have a high importance, as it prevents 32 bits programs (Skype, Steam, etc.) from working in 64 bit systems (at least those using the NVIDIA drivers). Sure, there are workarounds, but average users aren't expected to find and apply them.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1190341] Re: [MacBookPro10, 1] Backlight stopped working after update of linux-image with nvidia 313.30
I modified the bug description since using nouveau (as it is the case with live iso images) instead of nvidia-binary does not change anything withe respect to backlight. ** Description changed: I am using Ubuntu 13.04, nvidia 313.30, fresh installation from scratch, on a MacBookPro10,1 (the one with Retina display). Two of my partition are encrypted (swap and /srv on which /home is bind mounted).Since some upgrade to linux-image-3.8.0-24 backlight control does not work anymore. I am stuck with 3.8.0-23 in order to get something kind of working (I have to go in sleep mode at least once in order to get backlight control available). The last "almost working" kernel is 3.8.0-23. I even tried 3.9.0-030900 "upstream" kernel with no success. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245101] Re: Enabling workspaces breaks shortcut overlay
Sure, I could file another Xorg bug. But, like I said (maybe not clearly), I don't think this is a Xorg issue at all. The problem is in Unity, I think. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245101] Re: Enabling workspaces breaks shortcut overlay
Here is a similar (same?) bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1243233 I have the same problem. My laptop has a resolution of 1366x768. The shortcuts overlay only appears when workspaces are disabled. But, when using an external monitor with a higher resolution (height), the overlay works even with workspaces enabled. With workspaces enabled, the overlay displays an additional section (related to workspaces, obviously) with 3 shortcuts. This makes the overlay bigger (it almost wouldn't fit a 1366x768 screen). I think the bug is related to this (nothing related to Xorg). The solution should simply be making the overlay smaller (there is a lot of padding). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1245101 Title: Enabling workspaces breaks shortcut overlay To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1245101/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1170346] [NEW] Desktop freeze during update followed by boot problem and xorg crash
Public bug reported: I'm not sure this is the correct package nor whether it's a single bug but I'm happy to analyse further if someone can help me do so. I just did an apt-get dist-upgrade on my machine and here's what happened: 1. Ran sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; 2. At the point of setting up man DB, fans starts spinning up, unity locks up (apart from the mouse pointer); this seems to have been happening recently as a result of GPU lock ups; 3. CTRL+ATL+F2, logged in via console to force a reboot; 4. Laptop attempted to close processes but never managed to do so (while fan stayed on full speed); 5. Forcefully shut down the laptop; 6. On restart, I get a screen displayed saying that the system is on low graphics mode; 7. CTRL+ALT+F2 again to reboot; 8. Reboot happens as expected and I can log in to Unity; 9. A few seconds after login, apport fires up reporting an XOrg crash. The /var/log directory contains a number of apport log files that all look something like: ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: called for pid 1381, signal 6 , core limit 18446744073709551615 ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: ignoring implausibly big core limit, treating as unlimited ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: executable: /usr/bin/Xorg (co mmand line "/usr/bin/X :0 -core -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch") ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:22 2013: is_closing_session(): no DBUS _SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS in environment ERROR: apport (pid 1556) Thu Apr 18 13:53:25 2013: wrote report /var/crash/_usr_ bin_Xorg.0.crash ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-18.28-generic 3.8.6 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-18-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Thu Apr 18 14:00:37 2013 DistUpgraded: 2013-03-24 16:04:44,678 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: raring DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.2.10: added ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, including running git bisection searches GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:21e8] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-03-24 (24 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MachineType: LENOVO 12942NG MarkForUpload: True ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.8.0-18-generic root=UUID=aeda5fea-792c-4b75-b1f9-572ad71afcbc ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to raring on 2013-03-24 (24 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 06/20/2011 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 8MET22WW (1.22 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 12942NG dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr8MET22WW(1.22):bd06/20/2011:svnLENOVO:pn12942NG:pvrThinkPadX1:rvnLENOVO:rn12942NG:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 12942NG dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.9~daily13.04.18.1~13.04-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.43-0ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.1.1-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.1.1-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu6 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu2b2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.1.0-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.7-0ubuntu1 xserver.bootTime: Thu Apr 18 13:53:57 2013 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.version: 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu6 xserver.video_driver: intel ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 raring ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1170346 Title: Desktop freeze during update followed by boot problem and xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1170346/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163404] Re: xerver-xorg-core 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu3 breaks bumblebee

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163404] [NEW] xerver-xorg-core 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu3 breaks bumblebee
Public bug reported: Since this version, Bumblebee fails to start a secondary xserver on the NVIDIA card, with either nouveau or any flavors of the nvidia graphics driver. Is this an issue on the Bumblebee side, and then how to fix it, or is this changes made by Ubuntu that causes this problem (indeed they do, but the question is about who has to fix this)? Maarten Lankhorst answered this when contacted by email: If you want to load the nvidia module you need to specify it explicitly in your configuration. Intel failed to be detected before because of a bug. You were probably already running a xserver with intel. Before it would just fail entirely because the intel card was already in use, now it still detects the intel card through udev. As a workaround I suppose you could append something like -seat bla, in which case the intel device will not be found through udev, unless you had the ID_SEAT property for that device set to bla too. However, I haven't been able to make the seat option to work either since in fact this is equivalent to what we do with loading X using custom conf files. I'm providing logs for the non-working case, and will ask someone to add those for the working one (can't revert to 2b1 at the moment). ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Xorg log for nouveau" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1163404/+attachment/3615199/+files/Xorg.8.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1163404 Title: xerver-xorg-core 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu3 breaks bumblebee To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1163404/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

If the above workaround doesn't work for you, you can disable DGA entirely in your xorg.conf: Section "Module" SubSection "extmod" Option "omit xfree86-dga" EndSubSection EndSection That will take care of the remaining cases. Comment #53 is also reproducible for me, on openSUSE 12.1 with KDE 4 and an ATI Radeon card and driver. Run xterm, "ls -l" of a large directory, scroll back a couple of times, and you see some lines missing. The workaround: KDE control center -> Desktop effects -> Advanced -> Compositing type. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 720096] Re: No video output via HDMI on Nvidia 8200M
I hve the exact same problem in both 10.04 32bit and 11.10 64bit. I also own a Compaq Presario with a NVidia Geforce 8200M. A detail which may be of some importance, according to the driver search on the NVIDIA website, there aren't any drivers for the 8200M. The linux drivers which seem to work perfectly (apart from the HDMI situation) are made for 8200M - and for pretty much any other NVIDIA graphic card. I have no idea why this is, or if there's any way one might complain. So, yes, same here, HDMI port sends no signal under ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/720096 Title: No video output via HDMI on Nvidia 8200M To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/720096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770082] Re: missing 10-wacom.conf
Hi, I just wanted to say this just happened to me as well (and thanks Favux as your posts on UbuntuForums allowed me to fix it). My tablet worked on the first day after adding the PPA. xserver was only updated (or downloaded at all?) at the next boot and everything had been working as intended. Then today (first reboot after the update), I lost the ability to use the stylus after tapping the pad until I moved it out of range and brought it back. Both buttons were also completely inactive. 10-wacom.conf was indeed missing so I created one with the suggested code and now it works again. Looking at my sources, it seems I have Doctor Mo's PPA as well. Got the link from Ubuntu's French doc at http://doc.ubuntu- fr.org/wacom_bamboo_pen (2nd method). But since it worked perfectly until xserver got added, I'd be tempted to place the fault on the latter. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and a Bamboo Pen. Let me know if I can help and thanks a million for your work. Hopefully this will help my wrist pain. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770082 Title: missing 10-wacom.conf To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/770082/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
New Update: In my case the freezes were caused by a Logitech S510 KB/Mouse USB combo. Once I removed the receiver and went to a standard wired mouse and PS2 KB the pointer freezes are 100% cured. The receiver has a PS2 option plug on a -Y- cable, but it also causes the freeze issue. So if your using this or another wireless KB or Mouse, you might try to use a wired unit(s) to check if this cures the freeze issue. For me, I'll bite the bullet for now an use a wired solution, To bad as the Logitech S510 KB is very nice (Mouse, not so much lol), so I used my old USB MX500 and left the combo mouse turned off. Note: even with the USB MX500 unplugged, using the crappy mouse that came with the S510 combo the freeze still occurred. Now using the USB MX500 and a old PS2 wired KB, the pointer freeze is no longer a issue for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 Title: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/585765/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank
I have to agree with Josh. I did install 173, and Unity was working fine, so I decided to try out Gnome 3, and it was a total catastrophe, under 173. The content of the windows was not updating properly, so I was stuck with a computer that "seemed" blocked, untill I realized it was only a matter of freezing windows (Icould see the windows "moving" when I saw them as thumbnails only. So, all in all, I uninstalled Gnome 3, reinstalled the latest nvidia driver, forget 173, and went back to Gnome 2. The point of the matter is that, in my opinion (I have Unity in another machine), Unity is not worth the learning curve to get it to work at least as good as gnome 2 was. Maybe if, one day, there is a new nvidia driver that solves this problem, I will try it again. For the time being, I feel I have wasted enough time trying to solve a problem that simply is not worth it. BTW, maybe in that new driver, nvidia will get a way to change the brightness of the monitor when I disconnet it from AC. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753144 Title: focused, or maximized windows blank ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505915] Re: logout at resume and swap usage (suspend to ram)
I have upgraded my system, so I don't know if it's still an issue. As I said in post #6 a possible workaround at that time was to disable the dual-screen (separate X at least). So I will change the status to "fix released" as you suggest. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505915 Title: logout at resume and swap usage (suspend to ram) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
As I've posted in this bug thread, I have moved my posting to the bug report that EXACTLY discribes MY version of this bug, Here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/627862 The gist of my latest post there is that upgrading to kernel 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 22 20:25:46 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux ( Ubuntu 10.10) seems to have fixed my freezing issue. Since there are several different freeze conditions posted in this thread, you might want to check out the other bug report and see if the symptoms exactly match yours. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
For my version of the bug (See post #210) I'm having similar results as julius, 2.6.32-27 seems to have stopped the freeze, Although I'm still using the acpi=force irqpoll boot options. My next step will be to remove those and see if my system is still stable. As always I urge everyone to check this bug report and the one at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/627862 and post in the one that matches your specific symptoms.
