[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 707755] Re: Xorg usually won't start on Compaq system with nVidia Corporation C51 [GeForce 6150 LE] and nVidia chipset
Hi Peter, Testing a releases with a LiveCD or a LiveUSB makes it simple to check if a problem is resolved without actually installing it on the machine. If you need persistence due to applications or drivers, I suggest having a look at my documentation on how to do a full install to USB: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/komputes/HowToUbuntuUSB -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/707755 Title: Xorg usually won't start on Compaq system with nVidia Corporation C51 [GeForce 6150 LE] and nVidia chipset To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/707755/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The xorg logs shows that you are using the nvidia binary drivers. Is there any possibility that you can check if nouveau works correctly. You can boot into recovery mode and use jockey-text to enable/disable drivers. You can try removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and try removing and reinstalling the driver from recovery mode. Please also report apport information. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: $ apport-collect BUGNUMBER or if offline, you can use this command and then move the .bug file. $ apport-bug --save /tmp/report.bug nvidia-current # or -96 -173 -180 depending on which you have installed When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681465] Re: nvidia-current - Video has horizontal lines on Nvidia GeForce 320M
Chatted with Alberto Milone. Here is what we tried. 1) sync to vblank is on (nvidia-settings) 2) XVideoSyncToDisplay is on (nvidia-settings) OpenGL settings is set to sync to vblank X server Xvideo settings is set to sync to vblank (XVideoSyncToDisplay is just another name for the option in X server Xvideo settings) 3) make sure that sync to vblank is enabled in compiz in gconf 4) make sure that unredirect_fullscreen_windows is enabled in compiz in gconf (so that you don't experience tearing in full screen videos) gconf key is /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/ Values enabled: unredirect_fullscreen_windows and sync_to_vblank After testing this there are still lines, even in full screen. (Mouse was not in motion when in full screen) Using Gnome Desktop 10.10 clean install. It's a bug in the linux driver, because sync to vblank is broken in nvidia with this card while nouveau doesn't support sync to vblank. -- nvidia-current - Video has horizontal lines on Nvidia GeForce 320M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681465 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660331] Re: hp touchsmart 600-1010br no video
No problem. We're here to help. Have you given a try to the 32-bit image? Does this hardware work with an older version of Ubuntu. Usually if the graphic mode doesn't work, recovery mode should work as expected, but you say that you see a black screen. I would say that much more work remains to be done on this video card driver to be properly supported out of the box. If we could identify the card PCI ID and driver (lspci -nnk) at least we can point this bug to the proper project. Until then, please keep up the testing and posting your findings on this bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660331] Re: hp touchsmart 600-1010br no video
You will most likely need the nvidia binary drivers to get the resolution expected. You can achieve graphically by going so "System > Administration > Additional Drivers". If you really cannot use the graphical interface at all, there is another way- boot while pressing shift, then select recovery menu. Once there, you can drop to a netroot shell and run "jockey-text" to detect hardware and have it propose a driver. You may also want to update your system at this point. In the recovery menu, you can issue the command reboot, or press ctrl-d to return to the menu. If installing the binary driver with jockey does not resolve the issue, please run the following command to grab bug info from this machine: $ apport-bug --save /home//username/report.bug xorg ** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- hp touchsmart 600-1010br no video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse When installed on a Mac, Ubuntu does not offer a friendly way to bring up a contextual menu. As the Apple mouse has a single button and the keyboard does not have a contextual menu button, it is effectively impossible to bring up a menu without changing mouse/keyboard. You can access the context menu with a modifier key, but the click&hold is more intuitive for many. A problem I can foresee is that ctrl is currently used to select multiple items. Otomo, I spoke to 'whot' on #linuxwacom and it has come to my attention that this model is not yet supported. Could you please attempt to follow up with him to see what needs to be done to get this wacom device supported? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597476] Re: nVidia C67 GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M uses an unusable resolution by default
I am uploading a picture of what happens when you boot this computer off the Lucid Live CD. It sort of looks like window blinds. Default should be 1280x800. Other resolutions that do not work properly under the 'nouveau' driver should not be displayed as possible resolution, they should definitely not be the default. We can either fix these resolutions, so that they work as expected or we can take them out of the possible choices. First step would be to have the proper resolution come up by default. This bug was assigned to nvidia-graphics-drivers, although it affects nouveau (restricted binary drivers do not come on the Live CD). Assigning to nouveau. @Bryce - please confirm the proper bug assignment @67GTA - Please confirm the issue on the nouveau driver ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "blinds.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/51306796/blinds.png -- nVidia C67 GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M uses an unusable resolution by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597476 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
