I am really at the end of my patience here, my system is a E350 Sony laptop (AMD/HD6300), it has happily been freezing continuously for the past months almost daily, i tried everything, countless kernel variations, reinstalls, fucked around with Flash, with the thermal.off flag, manually installed catalyst drivers...this POS keeps freezing...i have wasted hours of my time on this, which leaves me with a really sour taste. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
This bug does not only affect Intel chipsets, my AMD Fusion laptop freezes just fine. To the people considering trying newer kernels, here is what it did for me, 3.3.6 and 3.3.7 made my system even more instable, it kept freezing, kernel 3.5 made it impossible to use Unity 3D and forced Unity 2D on me. So the kernel thing may work for some people but it did not achieve much for me. Several people have observed these freezes only seem to occur when browsing, here is what i did, i sudo apt-purged flash, installed the FlashAid Firefox extension which basically installs the best version for your system (64bit in my case) and applies some tweaks, i haven't had a single freeze since i did that last week. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
My laptop running 12.04 freezes once per hour, it does not seem to do so when watching videos with xbmc or gaming but when browsing. I tried using Chrome instead of Firefox, i tried using kernels 3.3.6 and 3.3.7 but it still keeps hard freezing. I have used Ubuntu for 5 or 6 years now and i must say each new version has been significantly worse, i do not care about Unity or glitches or bugs, this is free software after all, but i do care about system stability. "ubuntu 12.04 freeze" returns half a million result in Google, this has gone on for some weeks now, is there a some info somewhere about something being done about this?
