Share a CD drive with a CD-ROM disc or a CD-Audio disc ?

A CD-ROM with WAV files is not the same as a CD AUDIO format with audio
tracks.

As metadata is derived from matching the profile of the layout of CD
audio on the disk against a database- it is unlikely that a NBD based
solution will be able to provide metadata derived from CD layout.

I know someone uses NBD to share CD drives. Picoreplayer supports
nbd-client, but not nbd-server. I wonder if it is possible to build a
nbd-server tzc package for picoreplayer (if it exists for Tiny Core
Linux). Has anyone ever tried this?

The CDplayer plugin relies on cdda2wav which can only deal with a CD
drive on the same system. cdda2wav "talks" to hardware device /dev/cdrom
with lots of h/w specific control such as "is door open" and cannot use
a mountable file system.

So any solution to share CD drive has to be based on totally different
CD control application. Starting point would be to find any Linux s/w
which can remotely access and play audio CD drive.

Simplest but not "integrated" way would be to run two LMS servers. A
minimal one in the PCP with CD drive and having it just serve CDs.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Cdplayer plugin in picoreplayer player for RPi3

2022-04-12 Thread papaiannis

I am a very happy user of picoreplayer. Recently I started using the
Cdplayer plugin and I really enjoy it, especially for its responsiveness
(one or two seconds) and the possibility to read the titles and duration
of all the tracks.
Now I am going to move the Logitech Media Server to a separate server.
As a consequence, the Cdplayer plugin running on the separate server
will not be able to access the CD drive plugged into the raspberry pi.
I tried installing the samba server on picoreplayer, but I didn't
succeed in mounting the shared CD drive on the new server.
Is there a way to share the CD drive on the raspberry so that it can be
accessed by the Cdplayer plugin on the remote server?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you changed the cdplayer plugin setting to use "/dev/sr0" and not
the "/dev/cdrom" ?
Please post log message exactly as shown.

The cdda2wav binary in the tcz is setuid root, so permissions should not
be an issue.

Use /dev/sr0 instead of /dev/cdrom as /dev/cdrom doesn't exist on pcp.

See 'my original instructions'
which state to use /dev/sr0 and there are commands to confirm things are
setup correctly.

If you can compare a 3.02 system and a 3.11 system then I would hope a
PCP guy would be able to say what to check.

To check permission the name of the user which runs LMS is required.
Then for most Linux system you can check using the "groups" command to
see if user is in same groups on both 3.02 and 3.11

To check permission of the CD drive you need to know the name of the
drive - often in Linux it is called "/dev/cdrom" do a "ls -l /dev/cdrom"
where the letters are lowercase "LS -L /dev/cdrom" - letter L not
digit 1

Compare output of the "ls" command on 3.02 and 3.11 to see if there is a
difference.

I don't knwo pCP specifics.
The -1 failure is usually permissions so check that user which runs LMS
can has permissions to access cdrom h/w and also part of user group that
can access audio hardware.
Make sure there is no other application running in background which may
have been added in 3.11 which could be "holding" onto CD drive as a
storage device (e.g. network file share such as SAMBA)

This is a error message from the plugin and says that the LMS server
(which starts the cdda2wavapplication) cannot access the CDROM drive.
This is usually because LMS doesn't have necessary permission and/or
user privileges or another application is accessing the drive. I don't
know how pCP is setup.

Can you confirm that you ran the CDplayer plugin 1.09 OK on PCP 3.02
with no problems.

Open a browser and enter the ip address of your pcp.
Click on the advanced tab at the bottom after the page refreshes, click
the extensions button.

22525

Set the current repository as in the screen shot. Then choose the cdda
package and click load.

22526

AFTER THE LOAD IS COMPLETE CLICK THE RESET BUTTON AS THE WARNING STATES.

Yes they are there. When trying to install from a ssh session, then
you have to set mirrors to get it to work.

just to make sure has the module actually has been built. The OP seems
to looking for the audioCore version of module "
cdrom-4.4.39-pcpAudioCore_v7+.tcz" - I couldn't see this in the repo.

Just do it from the extension web page, it's easier.

On the Extension Page in the first dropdown box, select piCorePlayer
Sourceforge Repo. Then in the available extensions select the CDROM
extension

If pCP is your LMS server, then you need to install CD-ROM kernel
modules from the piCorePlayer sourceforge repo. You can do that on the
extension web page in pCP.

For CDplayer plugin discussion it is best to post on the CDplayer thread
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?47288-Announce-CDplayer-plugin/page1

The CD drive must be plugged into the server running LMS

It is not clear whether you are running LMS on RPI3 or LMS on another
server because of problems with LMS on RPI3.

I do not know LMS picoreplayer but there are other user who have
installed cdplayer on picoreplayer - if you post on the CDplayer thread
you will get a better chance of a good reply rather than asking about a
CDplayer Windows install on the Linux forum.
