Ah-ha! that’s where they hid it ;-)
Sadly it corrupts my screen as well :-(
I get the screen to select language but it all goes pear shaped from
there.
Thanks for the effort though, much appreciated.

Seems odd that there is no real support for this. I would have thought
a player like this would be really useful.I know I like having it on
all my computers so everyone can play the library locally or control SB
Players on the network.I haven't found anything that fills that niche to
date.

This is definite noob question, sorry, I have installed the deb file
which seems to have gone without hitch. My problem is how do I run it?
Both from command line and gui??

Yes, that's my problem. I have used it on all the windows machines in
the house so everyone has access to the music library. I was looking to
migrate to Linux and have it on my laptop at the moment but can't find
any means of accessing the SBS library, apart from browsing it on the
network which isn't very user friendly :-(
Many thanks for the deb file, I'll have a play :-)

Squeezeplay can usually be downloaded from:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/

However, it looks like there are no linux builds available at the
moment.

I found an older deb file on my harddrive
(squeezeplay_7.6.0~9462_all.deb) that you can play around with if you
want.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1099005/squeezeplay_7.6.0%7E9462_all.deb

I never had much success with it, though.

Good idea KnoxxBoxx, I'll give it a go.

I added this to the repository list: deb http://debian.slimdevices.com
stable main

You might try to update from the command line, as you suggested.

Another option is to uninstall and reinstall Synaptic (see the Synaptic
HowTo here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto).

I have tried these instruction from that page

"Instructions for Ubuntu:

Editing the sources.list and installing the SqueezeCenter package on
Ubuntu can also be achieved using the GUI. Go to System /
Administration / Synaptic Package Manager (provide your password). In
the Manager select Settings / Repositories and click the Third Party
Software tab, click +Add and provide one of the "deb xxx" strings
mentioned above. In the first tab Ubuntu software make sure that the
Universe is selected as well. After clicking Reload the list of
packages will show SqueezeCenter as additional package which will be
downloaded and installed along with its dependencies."

But when I try to reload I get the errors.
I also get an error every time update manager tries to refresh while
the slimdevices repository is enabled.
Which of the three repositories did you use?
Did you get any errors?
Is it running ok?
Did you do it from the command line or gui?
Is there any difference? Should I try from the command line?

Thanks for the help btw :-)

Earlier this week I installed LMS on a netbook running Ubuntu 10.04. I
followed the instructions on the wiki:

Don't forget to update the package manager (Reload from the toolbar) or
"apt-get update" from the command line.

Hmmm.
Tried to load "deb http://debian-origin.slimdevices.com stable main"
But it comes up with the same error as the original repository ...

Some packages are showing as available in package manager but watching

problems down the line if I try to install any of them. Am I worrying
unnecessarily?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Where is the SBS repository for Linux Mint 11?

2011-11-15 Thread cliver

Hi all,

I'm looking to migrate my SBS from win 7 to a Linux machine.
I'm pretty new at Linux btw.
I have an old machine available that will do the job as a stand alone
media server.
My options are:
1. Try out VortexBox or
2. Put it on Linux Mint 11 as I already use it on my laptop.

My first stumbling block is trying to install it on Mint 11.

I have tried to add the repository...
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main
in Package Manager but it reports back an error 404 file not found.

So, am I going about this the right way?
Am I using the right repository?
Have I got the right syntax in deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable
main?

Also any comments on which will be my best option of the two would be
appreciated.

Thanks and Regards
