Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
I am run version 15.i of the picoreplayer on a Raspberry pi Model B. When I selected "HDMI settings" I was not getting any output at all, although the song would appear to play for a few seconds and then stop. I am accessing my LMS through the internet to a remote location. It can access the LMS fine. When I changed the setting to analog out using the picoreplayer web page, it played flawlessly. I do not have any of the analog cables connected, so I am sure that it is playing through the HDMI, although the output is set to analog (I rebooted the Pi just to make sure). The display on the Marantz receiver to which the HDMI is plugged in displays 192 when I am playing a 192/24 file! Also, when checking th pi, it confirms that: tc@piCorePlayer:/proc/asound/card0$ sudo cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params access: RW_INTERLEAVED format: S32_LE subformat: STD channels: 2 rate: 192000 (192000/1) period_size: 2048 buffer_size: 8192 It is odd that it is working with the 'analog' setting, but I am not complaining! I don't here any distortion. I am not sure, but I may have heard a few clicks between tracks, but I have to research that by isolating myself with headphones. The ALSA settings are: 80:::0. Do I have to make any other adjustments? Also, even though this thread is 2 years old, "picoreplayer" is misspelled in the title (I have reported it). Makes it hard for the search engine to find it! stereoptic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=53162 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Set up 1.19l last night without much fuss and immediately tested with a 24/192 file via HDMI. No problem at all, receiver reports the crazy bitrate and everything sounds great. However, when I attempted to test with at DTS file I just got white noise, which suggests that some kind of change is being made to the bitstream somewhere. I allegedly have the volume locked at 100%, but that doesn't seem to have made a difference. This probably isn't going to bother very many people, but it seemed worth mentioning. atrocity's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16009 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

@ probedb Well can see your point about getting annoyed (and I do sometimes myself) but sometimes it is difficult for a poster to think about where to post the question, especially if asking about more than one thing. A lot of these dacs have the facility to operate as a pre-amp into active speakers for example and (SQ apart) might interest a lot of folk. I saw the model I mentioned in a post on another forum (CA) and it has piqued my interest as I have a pair of Active speakers. But now-* I am drifting too far*- from the thread. atb Ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

The majority of files you have is 16 bit . There are no true 24 bit DAC's even if they work in that domain the practical resolutions is typically 17-20 bits . The vast majority of recordings you have rarely have s/n ratio that touches 16 bit so knock of a bit or two there to . I USED TO FUZZ ABOUT THIS TO ALWAYS SUGGESTING 100% FOR MAXIMUM FIDELITY , BUT THERE REALLY IS NO RATIONALE FOR THAT IN PRACTICE. If you do as you suggest , adjust the analog volume so the 100% is as loud as you ever want, and use the upper range of LMS volume you dont challenge any limit of the system . And in that scenario even if you do lower the volume to something really low in LMS . The actuall acoustical volume is so low that you could not pick up any loss of fidelity . It can in some cases even have a slight advantage to not use 100% volume, many oversampling filters and similar in DAC's have problems with intersample overshots , this can happen with modern overcompressed recordings making them sound even worse , so backing of -3dB -6dB gives your dac some headroom . But this is not really a design error in the dac ,it's an broken recording , but thats reality . Having better handling fault situations is nice Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Hi, Do you plan to support the Cirrus Audio Card SPDIF input and output? It would be very nice, if you could support them, and add settings on the GUI also for ALSA inputs. The Cirrus Audio Card has a very good SPDIF transciever (WM8804). Using the SPDIF input of the Cirrus Audio Card and an USB DAC or i2S DAC as output, the PI could serve as a nice SPDIF-USB bridge for example between a CD transport and the DAC. Audiophonics data says to use-* I2S driver : Hifiberry +*- but if I do the Squeezelite red dot appears. Using the -*I2S-audio generic*- produces the green dot and music plays. Both outputs are listed as hw:CARD=sndrpihifiberry. Its no big deal, but I just wondered if it mattered. As an aside I have enabled the Timezone feature and rebooted but the timezone does not appear on the bottom strap line of the "About" page. Autorestart does work, which is most pleasing. atb Ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Hi Everyone, I recently became aware of an issue related to Linux Audio that I believe is of interest to this thread. Please take a look at this article: http://superpowered.com/androidaudiopathlatency/#axzz3bTmc8Dl8 Ostensibly, it describes a problem inherent in Android related to a latency issue with audio input and output. You may question why I am talking about Android here when Picoreplayer is based on the Tinycore Linux distro and not Android. Well, I have come to understand the this latency problem applies to every Linux derivative which includes Tinycore and Android! I realize that the article focuses on both input and output but I believe there is some relevancy to our discussion here. I also understand that this is a kernel problem so ultimately it falls into Mr. Torvalds lap to fix. Who knows when it will be addressed but it is something to monitor I believe? -CB ctbarker32's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

My latest PicorePlayer, v1.19l connected to a I2S DAC from Soekris Engineering. This joins 2 existing RPI2s running PicorePlayer. This is a resistor ladder dac which is a step up for the more common IQAudio and HiFiBerry. Picoreplayer is quite amazing in what it does, thanks for the effort. 18136 +---+ |Filename: DSCN0503v2.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18136| +---+ b0bb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Hi bluto99, We are glad too see you are enjoying piCorePlayer. :D Thanks for the feedback, it is always good to get "fresh" input. We'll have to go through our documentation and remove all references to the old password (and the CLI interface documentation). The alsamixer settings are sometimes not set to 100%. It seems to depend on the combination of sounds cards. We'll try and add this to the web gui to simplify things. I have read that some people think settings volume to 100% causes distortion. If it was easier to change then we could experiment a bit more to determine what is the optional setting. Very much enjoying my new picoreplayer but thought I'd relate a few things I learned while trying to SSH to adjust alsamixer. The ssh password is said to be nosoup4u many places but it evidently was changed to piCore at some point, user name is still tc. Once I gained access I found that alsamixer was already at 100 and did not need adjustment anyway. Also got errors when using the OS X terminal but changing the terminal option from xterm-256color to xterm in advanced settings fixed this. bluto99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=54150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

We have added the "User commands" feature on the tweaks page to give people hooks into the booting process. Here's is what I suggest. Place your commands into a script, clean.sh Comment out sleep 600, we will do that later. chmod 755 clean.sh Put the script into the /opt (or /home/tc) directory. Do a backup, "sudo filetool.sh -b" or just press a "Save" button on the web gui. In "User command #1" add: sleep 600; /opt/clean.sh & Hit the "Save" button. Reboot. For testing I suggest "sleep 60" it still gives you enough time to adjust things. regards Greg Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Hi, I use fing to see whats going on in my network. After connecting LAN and go to Web config I setup wifi. At console I make an iwconfig and ifconfig. I see that wifi is established and wifi gets an IP address. I make a cat to /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf and see here my wifi configuration. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Since early versions of piCoreplayer i am using my own scripts to stop all procesess which are not necessary for playing music few minutes after boot process - httpd, udevd, udhcpc, crond, dropbear. In this way Pi has more ressources for squeezelite and IMHO sound quality with a very good usb dac and very good hifi system is better. Would it be possible to built in one extra option for high end freaks into picoreplayer gui allowing to stop all unnecessary processess 5 or 10 minutes after booting, but only then, when there is no access to web gui ? In this way it will be possible to change configuration just after reboot and later all possible CPU/bus ressources could be available to squeezelite. The raspberry (piCorePlayer) will have a new IP-address for the wifi connection. I use advanced-IP scanner (http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/) to find my piCorePlayer on my network. However, you might be able to find the address if you follow these instructions: - Reboot the piCorePlayer with LAN cable attached. - Set-up wifi on the web-page. - reboot piCorePlayer - SHH into the piCorePlayer - write ifconfig - and now you should be able to see both the IP-address for the LAN connection and for the Wifi connection. - Remove LAN - Reboot (or pull the power) - Use the wifi IP-address you got Regards Steen piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM. Hi Steen, Greg, I did an insitu upgrade of 1.19 to 1.19L. The upgrade worked and after some 40 seconds the music resumed to play again. Looking at dmesg output there is still that message about the filesystems not correctly unmounted. Is this because of 1.19 having this issue and the insitu upgrade does not fix this? Wil it be gone when I download the 1.19L image and write it to the SD card myself instead of the insitu? Code: [ 14.346070] FAT-fs (mmcblk0p1): Volume was not properly unmounted. Hi rectorydp I think the problem is tach you didn't use the: sudo filetool.sh -b command as suggested by Greg. This is command is needed for piCorePlayer to backup your changes, and when this is omitted your alsa settings are simply lost. The tweaks page settings to "custom"tells piCorePlayer to use your saved alsa settings during the next reboot. steen piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM. When you did a 'sudo alsactl store' did you also do a 'sudo filetool.sh -b'. This saves your new asound.state into mydata.tcz that is restored after a reboot. Firstly I would like to say thank you for piCorePlayer. I have only been using for a couple of weeks and it is excellent. 1.19l is great and the in-situ update worked beautifully on my two players. It was good to see the Tweaks page as it didn't appear in the release (1.19i) that I started with. I spent a bit of time looking at the alsamixer settings as I need to change them for the IQAudio DAC. When I run 'sudo alsactl store' the settings are saved by default to /var/lib/alsa/asound.state The settings do not survive a reboot but a restore does pick up the saved file. I added sudo alsactl restore as a user command in the Tweaks and this seems to work. Clearly this is a rather primitive solution... There is some code in /tmp/tcloop/alsa-config/usr/local/etc/init.d/alsasound (linked as /usr/local/etc/init.d/alsasound) that seems to look for the state file in /usr/local/etc/ and if it is not found then default settings are applied. I am not sure if this is the code that is run at startup or not. I have only been working with the pi for 2 weeks and have not used linux before. I am not sure if /var/lib/alsa/asound.state is preserved between in-situ updates but it would be great if it was as this should fix the need for resetting the alsamixer settings. Hi kolossos4730, Thanks for the further information. ;) I think the coding should be reasonably straight forward. Testing it thoroughly on the other hand will be a problem. I'll have to dig out some old PCs and see if they have WOL. piCorePlayer already knows the LMS IP and interface, getting the MAC should be easy, I think? There will be some unforseen complication in trying to make it automatic and generic enough. regards Greg Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I have seen on github at least one project of a sleep proxy client (to register one's services before going to sleep) but I have yet to see an open sleep proxy server. AFAIK the inventor of sleep proxy is the same guy behind mdns and dns-sd, working with Apple. On modern PC's (especially those sold on the European market) there is a green option in the BIOS which, when turned on, lowers power consumption when off but disables WOL. MACs should also be able to accept WOL magic packets according to Google. Raspberry Pi's do not have a WOL function as far as I know. No need to turn of the Pi as the idle power consumption is pretty low. See https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=39714 On my Intel NUC LMS server I use the Server Power Control plugin to schedule shutdown of the LMS server if no music has been played for the last hour and turn off all connected players. Saves a few Euros per year. A dedicated WOL option on the tweaks page would be nice. This could be automated if you know the IP address of the LMS server (the arp command can be used to lookup the MAC address of the server). The network interface used should also be detectable I think. My knowledge of Linux is rather limited (Google is my best friend) so I am not sure if the above works. Another option would be a dropdown list for the network interfaces and a textbox for the MAC address. kolossos4730's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63988 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
I did miss one option in PicorePlayer which is present in a real Squeezebox, a Wake-On-LAN function. I did some Google research and found out that busybox includes a WOL command named ether-wake. In the Tweak page under User commands #1 I entered the following command: Code: ether-wake -i eth0 AB:CD:EF:12:34:56 In my case I used '-i eth0' to select the Pi's wired ethernet connection, but the option - wlan0 also works on a Pi with a wireless adapter. The AB:CD:EF:12:34:56 part is the MAC address of the LMS server (which should of course have WOL capabilities). Now whenever I switch on one of my PicorePlayers my LMS server automatically powers up. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
I need a little help on getting this working over wi fi. I'm using the latest version with an Edimax EW-7811Un adapter. I've set up the wireless settings and as far as I can tell it's connected because it saved the settings, successfully connected and the little blue light is blinking. However when I unplug the network cable it drops of the network, I can no longer see it on SqueezeCommander and the music stops shortly thereafter. If anyone could point me in the right direction to trouble shoot this it would be much appreciated. By the way thanks to every one involved in all the work on this, I'm loving it. I'm hoping that something can be figured out with on-demand music services like Rhapsody because my whole house audio system hasn't been the same since that last change that killed my SB receivers. Hi bitflusher, Thanks for providing the info on the insitu update. It's always good to get an idea on how it is working for people. Your point about the "please wait" and "continue button" are good. You'll probably notice we have been concentrating on polishing the top level of the menus, the deeper you go, the more polishing we still need to do. :D regards Greg Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Thanks in advance. Yeah kneebone, as Steen said this is "normal". You will find some more information on the Raspberry Pi forums. It doesn't seem logical to me either and I wasted hours on it initially. regards Greg Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Thanks, we are both trying hard to fine tune and add some new features to piCorePlayer as time permits. I just did an insitu update of my currently connected two pi b+ to piCorePlayer1.19k. The update procedure seems much more stable in the last few versions, this update was a smooth as possible. Only one minor improvement is possible. Most routers have a please wait while rebooting with a continue button, modern routers even check if the router is up and continue when it is. An addition like this would make the update process even smoother. Anyways, thank you for the update and picoreplayer in general! bitflusher's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63438 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Thanks in advance. Hi thanks for using piCorePlayer. I'm pretty sure that you will find it is playing in stereo. Actually we have not found out how to play in mono (this feature have been requested from time to time). I also see this "Playback channels: Mono" with all streams I play - no matter if it is analog, USB of Hifiberry - but it is actually outputting in stereo. My LMS is set to stereo. I have a raspberry pi B+ with a hifiberry DAC+ playing through picoreplayer 1.18b. When I run amixer it reports, Simple mixer control 'PCM',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: Playback -10239 - 400 Mono: Playback 0 [96%] [0.00dB] [on] alsamixer shows 1 column for PCM under playback and when I test with music - it is indeed playing back in Mono. How can I change playback to stereo? The sound quality is otherwise fine. Thanks in advance. kneebone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Hi all piCorePlayer users. We have a new version ready 1.19k. It is mostly a bug fix version but Greg have developed a new option that allow you to set a static IP-address for your piCorePlayer. This has been requested frequently, so now the first part is ready. For now it is only for wired networks, so if you use wifi you can't set a static IP-address. We hope to have such an option later. FOR NOW ONLY AVAILABLE FOR RPI THE RPI2 VERSION WILL COME LATER TODAY. Changes: Fixed the issue with not being able to save your changes. Fixed the issue with Jivelite becoming unresponsive after changing the skin. Fixed the Squeezelite logging to tmp directory issue Shortened boot time. Cleaned up boot messages Added a "Static IP" setting on the main page for wired networks. piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM.
