RE: Documentation in 2.5 - still doesn't show correct document -gives xmlerr

2004-08-29 Thread Monte Goulding

Hi

Just like any other major feature overhaul there will be a few teething
problems but I think the end result will be worth the pain.

I'm starting to think that search should be moved to a separate dialog where
people can choose what parts of the document they want searched. For
example, doing much more than a syntax and example search may be overkill
for most cases. It would be nice to be able to have checkboxes indicating
which sections of the document one wanted to search.

This might also separate the search function from the filter function which
seems to cause some confusion. I doubt a change like that could or should
make 2.5 though. Perhaps 2.5.1 if there is interest/discussion on the idea.

Cheers

Monte

Filter with "choose" produces a no-match result in the default,
out-of-the-box mode. If I click on "Dictionary" then filtering with
choose does indeed produce just the choose command.

Perhaps what is needed is a way for me to say, in essence, use the
Dictionary as my default doc search/filter basis. With the old docs, we
could set the page to appear when the doc window opened. It didn't
*work*, but the idea was right! ;-)

Sorry, Marian... I don't get it. What OS are you on? (I'm on OS X 10.3.4)
Perhaps that has something to do with it...

Am I the only person who continues to get xmlerr document when trying
to select an item in the dox??

Am redownloading now to be sure I didn't just get a corrupt download...

When I open the documentation and click on dictionary, I get a list
of terms at the left. However, when I select an item (highlight OR
double-click on) from this list (regardless of item chosen), what
gets displayed at the right is STILL "xmlerr, bad document id
xmlerr, bad"

At this point, I'd be glad to get as far as Dan describes.
What am I doing wrong?

(BTW, the choose command itself appears near the bottom of this
randomly ordered list.)

I don't see ANY value in a search that looks for text inside
descriptions of these commands. In the dictionary, the search out by
default look only for the key words themselves in the name of the item,
no? Or am I missing something here about how other people use these
things?

Now, if I click on "Topics" then a full-text search probably has real
value. But not in the Dictionary.
