Fedora 30, vagrant and VirtualBox
Hi, I just noticed that there's some mismatch with the version of vagrant for my Fedora 30 and the version of VirtualBox I have: ``` The provider 'virtualbox' that was requested to back the machine 'ironman' is reporting that it isn't usable on this system. The reason is shown below: Vagrant has detected that you have a version of VirtualBox installed that is not supported by this version of Vagrant. Please install one of the supported versions listed below to use Vagrant: 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 6.0 A Vagrant update may also be available that adds support for the version you specified. Please check www.vagrantup.com/downloads.html to download the latest version. ``` I don't see any updated in the *testing repos. laptop hangs on 5.4.x after getting out of suspend mode
Hi, Am I the only one who's laptop hangs badly after coming out of suspend mode? I type my password to unlock the screen but unlocking doesn't help (maybe pam isn't working by then) and at some point the screen just freezes. I was able once to move to a different tty and saw a lot of kernel errors coming in. This happened with 5.4.7 and 5.4.10. Now I went back to good old 5.3.16 which works great with my HP laptop. bugzilla and python2-virtualenv
Hi, I'm trying to file a bug report in bugzilla.redhat.com and seem to be having a hard time finding the package in question. For some reason, even though the package exists in fc30, the bugzilla interface doesn't have python2-virtualenv in it's database and so I can't file the bug report. FYI, it seems that down the road between fc28 and fc30 (don't have an fc29 handy to test this) the python2-virtualenv package doesn't come with `/usr/bin/virtualenv`. Is there a reason for the missing binary? And in any case, how is it that bugzilla doesn't list a package that is clearly in the fc30 release? # rpm -qa | grep python2-virtualenv python2-virtualenv-16.0.0-7.fc30.noarch Kind regards, -- Martín Marqués It’s not that I have something to hide, it’s that I have nothing I want you to see ___ users mailing list -- users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://getfedora.org/code-of-conduct.html List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.org

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade one of my machines at home from F27 to F28 using `dnf system-upgrade` which is failing with errors related with GPG Key signature failure for certain packages. There's really nothing interesting in the log file that would point to one or the other updates. The dracut shell isn't really helpful also. Looking at the dnf rpm log, the only thing I can think of that broke this is glibc, systemd. I discarded the kernel update as booting with the one I used before doesn't work either. How can I gather more information. Getting luks dependency problems on boot
Hi all, I have my laptop with F23 with the root partition encrypted with luks, working great for about a year already. I had some pending upgrades which I applied today (kernel, glibc and systemd are the ones that made me open my eyes wide). The thing is that system starts booting, asks for the password to decrypt (actually decrypts the partition) but then fails and falls back to a rescue shell. Reading the logs there (/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt) it seems there is a Dependency problem somewhere: Dependency failed for Cryptography Setup for luks-. Dependency failed for Encrypted Volumes I'm able to mount the root partition in the rescue shell and see it's contents, but I can't get the system to boot correctly. I've already tried using one of the old kernels (have always 3 around). mouse pointer dissapeared after kde update
Hi, I'm running Fedora 22 on my laptop and yesterday I ran a yum update which updated quite some kde* packages (I use kde as my WM). The thing is that my mouse pointer disappeared. Mouse works, but just don't know exactly where the pointer is so I end up guessing, mainly using the hover changes to spot where the pointer is at any moment. Pointer isn't even there when kdm comes up. Change theme for pointer doesn't work, and the .xsession-error logs say nothing as well as kdm.log and Xorg.*.log. On the tty terminals, pointer works fine with gpm. Any idea what could be the problem, or how to debug it? kded issue
Hi all, I have a laptop with Fedora 20 (IIRC I had F19 and upgraded like 6 or 7 months ago to F20) and everything was working great til a few weeks ago. The problem is that every now and then, when I try to sent the laptop to sleep, by closing the top or pressing Fn+F4, it doesn't full finish the sleep process. Let me explain this last thing: It takes some time for the laptop to sleep, and when you open the top and press any key it wakes up but the screen isn't blocked and kded is draining the CPU (I mean kded is hanged). This means that most kde applications won't work (NM won't authenticate, for example) The only way to get back is to kill -9 kded (yes, kill -15 doesn't kill it), and start it again. I'm going to install debugging symbols now so that next time I can gdb on the process. Anyway, has anybody else experienced this? -- Martín Marqués select 'martin.marques' || '@' || 'gmail.com' DBA, Programador, Administrador -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? I had a Dell laptop a which I bought about 4 years ago. I almost always suspended it (no hibernation) and when it got to 14 months (warrant was over) it died (hard die, like in motherboard chip got fried). The guy in Dell told me not to suspend the laptop, at least not for long periods of time, which really surprised me. About cold boot, well even if the cold boot is fast, there is lots of things I need to get starting before I start to work (ssh keys, login to monitoring systems, etc) which make a cold boot extremely tiresome. > On point 3, one would hope that resuming from hibernate didn't require > you to manually edit the grub configs every time :) I'm not well versed > in the area, but it smells like at least one bug/deficiency from here. Hibernate and lack of docs
Hi all, I was trying to get hibernation working on my F20 laptop with which I work. Going through the process, which I thought would be more transparent or that it would just be like hitting the hibernation and that's it, I found great deficiencies in Fedora (maybe just from the kernel) and especially in the docs (or the lack of documentation in this particular issue): 1) I had trouble getting the system to hibernate. There wasn't anything clear about the fact that you needed to have a swap bigger than the amount of memory you have. Also, it doesn't work if you have a file as swap (which was the easiest way to start testing) 2) You need (or at least with my laptop) to add the resume=, this I did find information in the docs, but I'm a bit surprised that Fedora doesn't give better information about all this during the installation process. 3) When adding the resume= option to the kernel line in grub you can't use UUID like FS. That is a bug IMHO. Well that's as much as I remember now. At least I now have hibernation working correctly on my laptop. I updated a Debian server we have last night and just thought "tomorrow I'll update my two Fedora workstation" not checking if the packages were already available. If I would have checked at that moment, I'd noticed that the F19/F20 packages were not available yet. If I would have checked, I would have gotten involved. Fedora 18 and network
What system brings up networking on Fedora 18? SysV or Systemd? I have a newly installed server and I haven't been able to make the eth0 network card come up on boot (manually running systemctl restart network.service does bring up the eth0 with the right configuration). I see that there are some reminance of the sysV network script: # chkconfig --list ebtables0:desactivado 1:desactivado 2:desactivado 3:desactivado 4:desactivado 5:desactivado 6:desactivado netconsole 0:desactivado 1:desactivado 2:desactivado 3:desactivado 4:desactivado 5:desactivado 6:desactivado network 0:desactivado 1:desactivado 2:desactivado 3:desactivado 4:desactivado 5:desactivado 6:desactivado Should I activate network here? -- Martín Marqués select 'martin.marques' || '@' || 'gmail.com' DBA, Programador, Administrador -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? Still can't find whats wrong with this: I restart the server, network comes up, but the only interface is lo (loopback). Network configuration on F18
I just finished reinstalling (fresh install from my old F16) my fedora server which ended up with a bad disk. The problem I'm seeing is related to, AFAICS, NetworkManager collision with Network. In this server I don't want NM as I have a static IP which should come up on interface eth0 (found that some configuration files changed). What I did was add this to /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="c8:60:00:5a:f6:6c", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0" And copied my old ifcfg-eth0 file from /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts of my old system to the new one. Now I can't get the server to come up with NM disabled and Network.server enabled and giving me a good network configuration. Also, and I think this is due to the network problem, my X session gets stalled when finishing to start (a few minutes). The same when I go to the terminal tty: they are blank for a moment and then the login prompt comes up. Is there any headline I can read on how to configure network without NM on F18? -- Martín Marqués select 'martin.marques' || '@' || 'gmail.com' DBA, Programador, Administrador -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? I just finished upgrading from F15->F16 and I noticed that when ever I start totem y hangs (a video hang) immediately. For example, if I start it with a video (avi for example) all the window hangs but the audio gets played OK. Today I performed a yum upgrade from F15 to F16 (as I did some time ago with my main computer). The thing is that I did something differently (maybe not installing grub2 on F15 before the upgrade) and after yum finished upgrading, I did a grub2-install. Bad for me, now grub doesn't show a menu , but a grub prompt. Tried booting a live image (through a USB stick), and thought I had it fixed: created a grub2.cfg file in /boot/grub2/ (from the root of the hard drive, not the USB) and ran grub2-install --boot-directory=/media/boot/grub2 /dev/sda. redirect postgresql logs
That's the question. How can I redirect potgresql logs using systemd? In the old System V times, I just edited /etc/init.d/postgresql and looked for the line that had the execution of the server and jus redirected the output to the file I wanted to have the logs (/var/log/postgresql/postgresql.log in my case). I tried a bunch of things, like creating a file in /etc/systemd/system/ with various options, but nothing. I found out that there's a BIOS configuration option to change the behavior of the function keys, so now it works like other laptops. New instalation on Dell Inspiron 15a
About a week ago I bought a brand new Dell Inspiron 15a (M5030) which comes with windows 7. I partitioned with a systemrescue CD and started installing Fedora 15. Can't remember exactly what happend but DVD instalation didn't go write. At first boot system hang and I couldn't do anything. So I went with the KDE live CD and installed from there. Right now every thing is quite cool, except for some annoying things which I had figured out in my Compaq Presario with older versions of Fedora (14 before it died): Synaptics has some issues. Basically, I can't get the scrolling (on the right side of the touchpad) to work (on windows 7 it works, not as good as I would want it to, but it works), and the third button configuration (pressing both buttons would simulate the third button) which is very handy for copy and paste (also, selecting text from a console doesn't save it in the clip board). There's also another problem, but related to Dell. The function keys on the keyboard work the opposite way as on other laptops or even desktop multimedia keyboards (even on windows 7 in my case): when you press them, the execute the multimedia function (stop the wireless, up/down brightness, mute, etc.), and when pressing together with the Fn key, they work as old function keys (I use them a lot on KDE to change desktops, and to reload firefox html pages). Any one got a work around for these issues? -- Martín Marqués select 'martin.marques' || '@' || 'gmail.com' DBA, Programador, Administrador -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines
Renewing Apache SSL certificates
Last week I started getting mails from certwatch about a certificate from apache that got expired. Following the indications, I ran genkey with no luck. genkey passes all the steps, looks like it updated the .crt file, but I keep getting the same message from certwatch, and when trying to enter the SSL domain. Is there something wrong with genkey? -- Martín Marqués select 'martin.marques' || '@' || 'gmail.com' DBA, Programador, Administrador -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines
