I think you have to be careful what you wish for.

I use OpenHAB for my smart home installation. Back in the days of OH version 1 
I even wrote a module for it using Netbeans. However, in the meantime, OpenHAB 
has been absorbed into the Eclipse borg and it is now virtually impossible to 
develop for it with Netbeans. This might suit Eclipse fans, but it leads to a 
partitioning of the Internet by reducing interoperability.

I have written small OSGI applications using Netbeans and didn’t feel 
restricted, although I did get annoyed by having to filter out in Google all 
the articles on how to do OSGI the Eclipse way, which is IDE-specific. What I 
produced with Netbeans could have been used in any other IDE. I don’t think 
that it the case with the Eclipse approach.
