Hello Sieghard, The advantage of Navigon is that you can have all the maps stored on the phone so that you don’t need a 3G connection to use the app. For us in Europe, this is very useful when out of the home country. Apart from the fact that you can download maps to the phone, I am curious what you consider advantages of Navigon over free apps like Apple Maps or Google Maps or paid solutions like the SeeingEye app which has much better accessibility and gives you also a lot of information you won’t get with Navigon. I also bought Navigon when I first got my iPhone 4 in 2010, but I don’t think I have used it in at least 3 or 4 years because of how good Apple Maps and Google Maps are and also because of the fact that I bought a 3-year Seeing-Eye subscription. Navigon GPS app recently released version 2.16 update. This version fixed the problem we had with the previous update. We can now read the turn by turn list of navigation instructions. This was broken in the previous update. But Navigon has dramatically changed the user interface of the app. It is now very map centric. The familiar menu structure is gone. I think the features are still available, but you will have to explore the various buttons and menus to find them. I have only just begun learning the new interface. So I cannot give any tips yet. Updating apps - Was Re: Navigon Update
Hi, I think you have asked this question in 3 or 4 different formats. The bottom line though, is that you cannot store the apps on different media like usb sticks or a connected usb add-on for the iPhone. They must always be installed like all other apps. So, if you are trying to update and you don't have enough room, you will have to delete some apps to make room. Check in Settings under usage and see what apps are taking up the most room. You can always delete the ones you don't use. I tunes remembers the ones you have purchased so you won't get charged again if you delete one by mistake. The Navigon update is very good
I just went on a three mile walk with my wife and tried out the new feature in Navigon. On the way out I had Blind Square running; it did well except, because I live in the country, my cell phone network connection kept connecting and disconnecting. On the way back home, I tried Navigon. From the main menu I chose "Take me home." It then gave me the option of Vehicle or Pedestrian. I chose Pedestrian. Earlier, in settings,, (all the way at the bottom) I selected "Pedestrian Mode with Voice announcement." It announced, "In 0.1 miles, turn left on Carey Lane." Then, "In three hundred feet, turn left on Carey Lane," and then,, finally, right at the intersection, "Turn left on Carey Lane." Very impressive. It did the same for the next turn I had to make. Hi Katie, Well, I could not activate that option yet. I called Garmin, thanks to Raul's info, but while waiting fro the rep to return while I was on hold, I was cut off. In summary, I should have received an option to navigate by bus, but I only have vehicular and pedestrian thus far. I'm in Albany, NY, and I hope it's available here. I'll report back as soon as I have something to report. Does anyone have a contact with Garmin outside of their normal useless support page?
