The thing, IMHO, is that alot of the local talent people mentioned in the
previous post, as well as others, supported the scene in Detroit from 94-97.

Irony have it, as soon as "dance clubs" i.e. motor, and others sprung up,
all
of a sudden Derrick MAy was in town quite a bit, and some other "detroit
pioneers". They come in and act like they never left. The whole time these
local djs and promoters carried the torch and seldom reap the rewards. I
mean
it was unbelievable to here about all these Detroit "techno pioneers" and
yet
they never were in town. I would travel to other cities and people would
say
"damn, yall from detroit?" "your so lucky" meaning they thought we saw May,
Claude Young, Mills, all the time. Record stores on every corner. 10,000
person parties. ...........
Well, they were right in a couple respects. I was lucky. I got to see
these
incredible "lesser known" DJs on a nightly basis.

I've heard of them all... but I spose they're less
known to non dj's and ppl not on this list. All of
those mentioned have been discussed at sometime on
this list (some of them are subscribers)...

I think the DEMF and the lead up to it has helped a
lot of ppl get their bearings tho with the scene. I'll
be honest and admit that a few of those performing at
the DEMF I'd never heard of before. Sometimes I find
it hard to believe that all of these different artists
support the same kind of music...

For me, the DEMF has helped bring the whole scene back
into perspective even tho I didn't attend. Much
respect to the groovetech ppl, I would have missed out
totally if it wasn't for the Real Video...
