Couldn't get this in this morning because I was rushing out the door to catch my plane (and why I was doing that without any sleep at 6 am? Read further!)
Monday was the strongest day musically, in my view; not too surprising, but I really didn't get the slack feeling of Saturday. Gilb-R played some pretty cool classics out of the old disco house bag, Kikoman was really good (I didn't know much about him, excellent track selection), Di'jital was fine (loved the snippet of Plastic Dreams and the transition from Jaguar to Who U Wit? :), and that doesn't even come close to the drama on the main stage. Random Noise Generation really rocked it, even though they were cut a little short in the first downpour. Reese and Inner City were simply awesome; it shows what happens when you put real *performers* on stage as opposed to some others I shall not name. I watched a fair portion of Juan's set from the walkway stage right, with the panorama of the office buildings along Jefferson reaching over to the Ren Cen as the backdrop, and the alternating searchlights from the Windsor casino and lightning flashes providing the light show and Juan running through that amazing catalog of classics (including the unique performance of the first part of Technicolor -- it seemed, there was only a fragment -- on a failing 1200, how often does *that* ever happen!). I checked my longtime pal Doc Martin's set for a bit and then was heading over to the Motor stage briefly when the heavens opened up. Eventually I scooted back to the hotel, got a quick change into dry clothing, and went to the KMS party at The Works (my cab driver knew that as "the place across from Firestone"). The party was uneven, lots of looky-loos coming to check out the Star DJs, but you know, it really didn't matter when Gene Farris completely grooved us in the front room on a pretty crummy sound system and, right when you really want it at 4 am, played one of those half hours that just gets me going completely. As we left he was playing Good Life. Indeed. More later after I catch up on what everyone has been saying... phred --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
