what's wrong with R&B/rappers doing live instrument music? Mos Def did it
on the Tonight Show a few weeks ago and it sounded smooth as hell.

For what it's worth, I've noticed a reversion to more
live instruments in dp house lately. It reminds me
of disco instrumentation, but updated to fit the new
mold.
I'd say things are moving in both directions at once
though, since many electronic music producers are
going to entirely soft set
Laurent Garnier had what I assumed was a keybordist and a sax player when he
played live at Motor.
That was well done!

Yes! I have seen them, they were really good, but they were a band from the
gitgo. No a couple of guys that a producer tracks down.

it just depends on how it's doneand when you mention getting back to the
"roots"
check out The Roots, they do quite well with a live band.
