Frankly, I much prefer Suzuki, or Opera. I found the dub remix, dunno,
lacking somewhat.

I just picked up the "Bossa Mundo...When Brazil Meets The World,"
compilation on Wave Music.
This compilation is superb, downtempo Bossa, Jazz, Latin, African Rhythms
which slowly evolves into some profound House textures. The Inlay says,

Wunder by Jorg Follert on Kareoke Kalk. It's totally different to all the
other Kareoke Kalk stuff which is usually in a Chain Reaction/BC style.
This LP mixes up old Jazz & Orchestral samples with downtempo beats ,some
weird ambient sounds and vocals. I think it

So, I never got an answer about Shake's "Mr. Shakir's Beat Shop" - how
does it compare to the downtempo tracks on his Frictional 12"s?
Thanks,

I'd email you directly but I trashed your mail by accident...

Isn't Bill Laswell another person originally from Ann Arbor?
He's done some pretty interesting downtempo stuff (as well as some pretty
ordinary stuff too). The 2nd CD on that Axiom Dub compilation has been in my
player a lot this past week - been addicted to that Mad Professor track.

And His L.P. "Rest" on Playhouse is perrtty freakin' amazin'.

The Domu and Seiji EPs (numbers 5 and 7 on the label respectively) are the
two totally essential ones - the Domu was my favourite record of 199

Speaking of Rainer Truby, the Rootdown 99 lp is a MUST. Jazzy, Latin tinged
downbeat bliss.

Not 313 artists, but check out 2 Lone Swordsmen's "A Virus With Shoes" for
slightly twisted downtempo (um...I'd say Virus is to downtempo what Bag of Blue
Sparks was to elecrto, if that makes any sense). Most everyone else brought
forth the things I would have mentioned except
check out Dan Bell's track on Intuit-Solar. It's by far one of my favorite
tracks.

As a longtime fan of nearly every genre of electronic music (well, maybe not
gabber or happy hardcore, but still...), I have to say that downtempo has
definitely warmed my ears the last few years.
Some people confuse trip-hop with downtempo, and frankly, a lot of

How would you describe Downtempo? I've seen Recloose and Hogans mentioned, and
I am familiar with their music, which is very jazzy. Downtempo=jazzy?
