hello, I've been traveling. here's a list of some shows I really enjoyed,
dates are as close as I can remember:
cybersonik industry 91/92? (smells like teen spirit!)
ur (mad mike, jeff mills, rob hood) panic in detroit, state theatre 92
carl craig (w/ dj overdose [the detroit one]) 1515 broadway
i missed his set at polarity (sorry again, todd) but did you happen to
catch charles noel's set as _the archetype_? good stuff..i also
caught him and kevin ginger's after wedding party "union" in portland.
i highly reccomend. if you have a chance to come to columbus tonight,
rumor has it he's

good lord, todd's set at polarity (columbus, ohio...july 21st this year if
i remember correctly) was AMAZINGLY good. i would venture to say better
than stewart walker's set even. :) really

Speaking of great live shows, I have to say I was quite impressed with
Herbert @ Motor last night.
It seemed like all of his musical personae coalesced and emerged though the
"lounge" style of Bodily Functions. Loved whatching him build tracks from
samples (jewel cases being smashed, bottles cla

I've missed quite a few at the DEMF so I'm not dissin' anyone I left out.
What this tells me is that -- again -- we have Carl Craig to thank for

Yep. I'll second that one. I'd also add Kit Clayton on the Formless Form
tour, if that counts as 313. Stewart Walker in Iowa City '99. This was the
"Nothing Creates Stark Imagery" era. Scion w/Tikiman @ DEMF. Todd Sines @
DEMF 2. Does Titonton count, since he has a band (of sorts)? I was quite

I would have ... I guess I kept my list to a stricter "Detroit
techno" definition.
Morgan's solo live sets are among my faves as well.

I'm a bit surprised no one mentioned the Metro Area set at the SereNgeti
Ballroom post DEMF. Awesome tight sound and a beauty of a mid-tempo groove.

ahhh yes. indeed. wonderful wonderful show, but i thought this had to a
"from Detroit only" list.
and while i'm at it:
innerzone orchestra / motor
random noise generation / motor
inner city / demf 2001
bill van loo / demf 2000
dykehouse / whenever
recloose / motor
theorem / bob evans on woodward
i forgot to mention seeing Tricky and Orbital at Lollapalooza in 97 was
pretty amazing. that is actually what got me into music that was a little
more electronic oriented than rock oriented like ministry...
does ministry count as a live show?? they are amazing!

I just got a laptop yesterday (one of our older models here at work)
and I've been thinking of ways to make it more interesting to use in a
"live" show. I think what I'm going to end up doing is using the laptop as
the master clock for whatever gear I'm using and also to provide a touch of

>From a performance standpoint, I think you'll be seeing a lot more laptops
at live shows (Ectomorph used one in NYC a few weeks back) and I don't see
a problem with it. You can much more power in one laptop than lugging a
whole bunch of analog gear around. We just did a show in NYC last weekend
