I successfully replicated the issue with OpenOffice.org 2.0 and Linux Fedora
Core 4, kernel version 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4.

When create a new file in Writer, many menu items can be selected are actually
non-sense. There are 2 types of errors:
1. The entry has sub-entries, but none of them is visible
(a) Edit/Object
2. The entry has sub-entries, but all of them are selectable, i.e. Shows
as grey
(a) Format/Anchor
(b) Format/Wrap
(c) Format/Arrange
(d) Format/Flip
(e) Format/Group
(f) Format/Object
(g) Table/Delete
(h) Table/Select
(i) Table/AutoFit
(j) Table/Convert

I also did some following-up test, the result is:
1. For type 1, if use Insert/Object or other way to insert an object, then
the
sub-entries of Edit/Object show up, but may need to be not selectable without
any object
2. For type 2, all these entries are useful when corresponding objects
exist, if
not, they should be set to be not selectable.
