Example method to reproduce bug:
1. In A1 type "4/5/2006" (without quotes, of course; US locale)
2. In A2 type the formula "=A1+0" (and you should see the same date)
3. Format A2 as a date.
4. in A1, highlight the number 5 and make it bold (leaving the rest of the cell
plain)

Expected results:
Cell A2 shows "4/5/2006" or program displays a warning that it can't do what I 
want.

Actual results:
Cell A2 shows "12/30/99".

Microsoft Excel 2000 test:
Excel silently refuses the formatting change (which may be confusing to some
users), but at least it doesn't break formulas.

Note:
I suppose this issue is about usability.
