Hello,
I am using ALSA drivers version 0.9.0rc2 on Slackware Linux 8.0 kernel 2.4.18. I have
compiled the tarballs (alsa-driver-0.9.0rc2.tar.gz, alsa-lib-0.9.0rc2.tar.gz,
alsa-utils-0.9.0rc2.tar.gz) manually according to the instructions on the
www.alsa-project.org website. Everything worked
The latest CVS version of ALSA worked for me. I have now a functional
sound, but, sadly, with very volume, even with mixers at maximum.
Please tell me if you discover the cause.
I posted a question to this list about low volume so it sounds like it
is more than the als4000 driver.

I've successfully installed the CVS version of ALSA for an ALS4000 chipset based card.
I used alsamixer to max the volume (why does ALSA default to mute?).
The sound is not very loud even with the volume maxed, any ideas?

Hi,
I think you made a few mistakes ( I have also done ):
Before you start, you have to install the kernel sources NOT AS RPM.
You should better compile your kernel yourself because distributers
often build their own "nice" kernel. You will have to activate soundcore
compiled into the kernel ( in

I've been trying to get the AC3 passthru to work on
my system. Both Xine and MPlayer completely lockup the system if the AC3
passthru is enabled. I've tried the 0.9.12 and 0.9.13 builds of
Xine, the Alsa 0.9.0rc3 and a recent CVS
snapshot build.
Xine plays fine without the passthru enabled.
I can see when it compile that it uses the right kernel source an misc dir.

I don't understand why you use and report errors from beta6, beta 6 have
more than one year, why don't you try rc3?

Then you havent compile it for the right chipset.
