I'm trying to install alsa drivers under Debian `testing'.
I've installed the Debian package alsa-source, but I need/want to
compile the drivers by hand (because my kernel is custom-compiled by
hand (2.4.22-ac4), I can't use the Debian package-creation tools).

I don't know what the 'new dsp support' option is supposed to do, but
after enabling it on 2.6.0-test6 kernel, I can't capture anything. After
I disabled the option and recompiled the module, everything was back to
normal.

What are the PCM and Master level settings when using the intel8x0 driver for
unity gain, that which causes no volume processing to be done?

I have two soundcards. The Terratec DMX 6fire works properly exept of the
mixer for this soundcard. But I get no sound from the onboard sound chip.
(cmi8734). My modules.conf looks like like this.

Thanks for the advice. I had seen the command aplay /dev/dsp as a way of testing audio capture for use with MythTV. Any other hints about how I can test this?
