I am a new Linux user, I have Debian on a Shuttle SK41G that I intend to use
as a media center to watch DVDs among other things. I compiled and installed
ALSA 1.0.0rc2 from source because I couldn't find a Debian package of the
latest version and earlier versions didn't seem to know how to confi

Have you turned the volume up to max in alsamixer for the surround
channels?
That did it! I had all my channels turned up to 10% because when I
initially set my card up, setting the first two DACs to

I am working on a multiple stream jukebox program (plays 3 separate
stereo streams out a 5.1 sound card, in this case the EPIA-VIA-M). Each
stream uses aplay to play a song, when it finishes it calls aplay again
with a new song. I am using dshare to multiplex 3 copies of aplay into
the sound card (

I'm using a 2.6.0 kernel with ALSA 1.0.0rc2. Would that cause a
problem?

After compiling and installing, I managed to make modules load without
(visible) errors. I run alsasound script and reports status as drivers
loaded. But I got no sound.
I try to use alsamixer and got this:

I got a Sound Blaster Audigy (a plain Audigy, no Platinum or such things I
think) card and downloaded latest alsa drivers. Im trying to compile it under
Fedora Core 1, with latest kernel 2.4.22 and I get this error:

Hey,
I just upgraded my kernel from 2.4 to 2.6, and so am using the inbuilt ALSA
support. I'm using Debian Sid and have installed the alsa-base and alsa-util
packages.
When I boot, I get an error similar to this:
Starting ALSA (version 0.9)... cs46xx cs46xx-failed
It's something like that -
Hi,
I have a problem with a new sound card based on Envy24HT, a Terratec Aureon
Sky, on both Mandrake 9.2/kernel 2.4 and cooker/kernel 2.6 (dev version). I
don't know if the problem is a Mandrake configuration issue or an alsa issue,
so I post on that list because it may interests you.
This card

Hi Ian,
I've got a similar problem with my setup: 9000 IGP, IXP 150 and a realtek ac97
sound chip. I also figured out, that the AC97 codec is an extra chip attached
to the IXP150 (in my case the realtek codec). I also found out that every
AC97-sound chip can actually be (at least theoretically)
