Confirmed as fixed. I manually applied the commit to 3.5.7 and tested,
and today I just pulled 3.8.2 from my upstream distro sources and
tested. Both produced the expected devices, visible in "arecord -l" and
elsewhere.

I have a BT878-family 4-input a/v capture card. It was in service and
working great a couple of years ago, before I put it on the shelf for a
while, and now I'm taking it out of retirement for some light CCTV work.
Video capture (v4l2) from the the card works great, and my four other
