2.4.21 source (which I have
not yet tried to build), but my current 2.2.25 has no such thing. I
don't know how to fix this. Any ideas? Details of my configuration
are appended.
Thanks in advance,

System:
AMD K6 233Mhz
Linux 2.2.25
Red Hat 6.2
gcc 2.95.3
GNU make 3.79.1
ess that tries to use sound. (I'll post more details when I have
finished experimenting with CVS.) So maybe kernel version is an
issue. ISTR other people on this list having problems with versions
after 0.9.0rc5 , so you might try that version and see if it works any
better

${xtmp:0:5} without any complaint. Is building with bash-1 no longer

D'oh! It just came back today. There was definitely an outage of
some kind, though.

complains as before, but worse than that any application such as
aumix, amixer, alsamixer hangs *hard* (I can't even kill -9 the
process).
Any ideas how I can investigate this further? Details of my system

Details: Linux 2.2.25, ALSA conf
that your compiler is somewhere unusual
where "configure" did not look for it. But it is much more likely
that you do not have a compiler installed at all. In that case you
need to find a compiler for your distribution and inst
ttachment.)
Worse, after this happens any attempt to make any target (even just
distclean) reruns configure and promptly fails again! How can this be
fixed?

This is possibly more a Timidity question, but I am still waiting for
confirmation from the Timidity mailing list, and it relates to ALSA
too, so maybe someone can help in the meantime.
I am trying to use Timidity as a soft synth for Rosegarden. Timidity
2.11.3 builds OK with the default config
