(this is made up and doesn't work, of course).
Actually I found the following in the mailinglist of Mplayer:
"mplayer -ao alsa9:surround51 -channels 6"
I have not tried it yet, but it looks like you can specify the surround51 ...

Hi,
Please ignore my previous mail. The following line did the trick:
"above snd-intel8x0 snd-mixer-oss snd-seq-oss snd-pcm-oss"
Now RealPlayer produces sound! Great. Last thing remaining is getting the rear
speakers to produce sound.
Thanks,
Metin

as before (see below). Also I still do not have
the /dev/dsp device and the problem with RealPlayer is not solved.
Any other ideas?

I guess ICH.conf is used for i8x0 based cards, I was wondering whether this
may cause why my rear speakers are not working?

arts I get another error, saying it can't find
"/dev/dsp" which is correct as I don't have such device.
Hope anyone can help,

Hi,
I have successfully installed the alsa-driver-0.9.7 with my i8x0 (AC' 97) onboard
soundcard. However, I have 4 speakers (actually 5 if you include the subwoofer) but I
only get sound from the (two) front speakers.
Is there a way to get sound from the two rear speakers as well?
Regards,
Met
Is there really noone who knows how to activate the rear speakers?
