Hi. Just came up with a stupid idea of combining multiple stereo
soundcards for "multichannel" recording. Normally the clocks have to be
synced, but in cheap soundcards thatīs not possible. But no problem. Just
record simultaneously with all of them, regardless of the different
clocks, even with different rates. The clue is that after recording,
play each individual cardīs input and record them with one card.

Example: 3 stereo cards

A: 16bit 48khz
B: 16bit 44,1khz
c: 24bit 96khz

Record with all cards.
Then choose c) to be the recording card for playback from a) and b).
Playback aīs recording with a) and record it with c)
Playback bīs recording with b) and record it with c)

-> 6 channels in perfect(?) sample sync.

This is just a wild idea that popped up in my mind, and it may or it may
not work. It requires some cable switching, but itīs nice way to test
multichannel recording if you have multiple cards. (nice = no need to
spend the extra euros/bucks)

It should work if each clock chip is accurate enough, so that recording
and playback with same card wouldn't drift in time (too much).
