Schoor, 67, of Manalapan, is accused of paying bribes to former Ocean Township Mayor Terrance D. Weldon and Stephen D. Kessler, former chairman of the Township of Ocean Sewerage Authority, between 1998 and 2001.
U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie said Schoor gave out the bribes while his firm, Schoor DePalma Engineers and Consultants, was seeking to get and maintain large contracts with the sewerage authority. The firm has been cooperating with the federal investigation and is not accused of wrongdoing, Christie has said. Larry Loigman, a Middletown attorney who lives in Ocean Township, attended the Monday night council meeting and was instrumental in persuading the governing body to hold off on appointing Schoor DePalma to the new contract. "The township is wrong entering into a continuing contract (with Schoor DePalma) when there's this possibility," Loigman said. What a tangled web we weave. Too many related parties in AP for comfort.
