After reading these posts about Mr. Keady and hearing some parts of our lovely radio host refering to it last night, I must say many are missing the point.
ABC News was here to cover - shootings. The report was going to be bad. No one could do any kind of covering, ignoring or any other word you choose, to make the bad report look, in the final analysis, postive. No one is suggesting Keady had the power to do that. Although you must tell the truth, you don't have to make the situation look worse than it is. I agree Keady shouldn't tell falsehoods to make us look good, but certainly telling a falsehood to make us look worse than we are is bad too. That's what he did wrong. The viewers were already getting the confirmed story that something scary was happening here. A councilman's job would be to then tell the rest of the truth - that are police department is revamped, the county is helping and we are working hard against it. I hope all of you screaming for "truth" will admit telling the whole truth is more fair and makes us look better, so it is truthful and good for AP. Keady has not yet realized he is no longer some guy with a picket sign rallying against the man. As a public official, his words carry weight now. He has a duty to you and me to make sure the picture of Asbury Park to a tri-state TV audience is a balanced one. We are rarely on TV. For him to use a false fact to make us look worse than we are was what he did wrong. Yahoo!
