What a spirited debate we are having. Education is always a great
idea! I would be willing to teach English - although I have no
education experience :) Mario would probably be a better candidate.
In the meantime, if a certain significant percentage of the
population speaks another language, in
Should read "who's" with me.
We'll let someone besides me handle the typing classes.

Scott you've given me a business idea.
Why don't we start an Americanization School?
Non-political. Teach grade school level history, seminars on
schools, taxes, law, food, pop-culture, and how to take and pass the
test for citizenship.
Market it to Governments, Corporations, Schools and so
-how about the BOE offering english classes to families
or we could just create that private service, lease space from the BOE or some
other building
in AP, and get fed funds to do it.

It is their children who will learn English and have the
opportunities.
There are different types of immigrants who come to this country.
There are professionals, from all different countries, who come to
take a job. Chances are, these folks already speak English very
well. There are folks who

It's a great point you make.
I have a winderful picture hanging in my office. It is from 1928.
About 3 to 4 feet wide.
It's 150 Immigrants being sworn in as citizens at the White House.
President Coolidge did the swearing in. My grandfater is in the
picture, having been sworn in that day.
My intention there was not to point the word "villifying" at you -
you have not in your posts and Tom I apologize to you if you feel I
implied that sepcifically regarding you. It was more of a general
statement because many in this country do.
Aside from that, there are two points I was making
Just a small deviation from Asbury park to the argument that other
countries accommodate English via dual signage etc therefor
America should reciprocate for other languages also...

Signing is a universal language - but few people ever learned it. Try turning

No, but if a Korean person was murdered and the only witnesses to
the crime were Korean family members who only speak Korean (actually
not unusual in Bergen County), there would at least be a Korean
interpreter who would help the police interview the witnesses.

On one hand I agree with you both - everyone should be strongly
encouraged to learn English in this country.
That said, as a marketing professional I have worked with clients who
focus on the Hispanic community and one of the popular misconceptions
is that people come here and don't want to l

Wow, Werner and I agree. I guess if you live long enough you'll see
